My friend has just got a kitten who is 4 months old.
She lives at home with her Dad (my friend not the kitten)
Anyway I said in a couple of weeks shall we do lunch ..her response
" I won't be able to because of the kitten,I can't leave her,I have to pop to the shops when she's asleep"

So I said "your dads home and lunch is only a hour"

She said "no she's too fast for him and we leave the patio doors open"
So I suggested maybe closing the doors for a hour

She said "I have responsibilities now and this is my life at home with her"

I mean surely you wouldn't let a kitten rule your life ?Grin
Imagine if she had a job ..would she never go to work again.
Aibu to think this is bat shit ?

My cat is an unbearably needy ragdoll who cries if we so much as shut the bathroom door- we still left him to go out for lunch when he was a kitten. Your friend is mad.

Suggest kitten pot pie at hers.

Viviennemary · 14/06/2021 20:41

She is a prize twit. Find a different friend and leave her to her kitten.

Gwenhwyfar · 14/06/2021 20:42

@PainterInPeril

I'm sorry but if I had to choose between a friend and beautiful little kitten, I'd choose the kitten too!Grin
Really though? When you already spend 23 hours a day with the kitten?
PixieDust28 · 14/06/2021 20:44

Ha.

We had a batshit kitten. I mean, was pure evil.
I'd have ran out the house at a chance of an hour away from him.

He was an actual psychopath. We've had a fair few cats but my gosh he was a different breed. I'm not even sure he was a kitten. I think I had a tiger.

Confusedandshaken · 14/06/2021 20:45

@DrManhattan

She doesn't want to go out. Kitten is the excuse
This. If she wanted to go out with you (or anyone else) she would.
Sciurus83 · 14/06/2021 20:53

Yeh this isn't about the cat

Ingloriousbasterd · 14/06/2021 20:54

Wow. .my cats just had a litter, they're 2 weeks old and we have continued as normal....does she plan to stay in for the next year? I get the vibe she just doesn't want to do lunch

Notaroadrunner · 14/06/2021 20:57

I left ours (similar age) for nearly 3 hours today. He was in one room with food, water and a litter tray. He was fine. Surely she could close the patio door for an hour or just leave him in a safer room with windows closed. She's being a bit too precious.

NoProblem123 · 14/06/2021 21:04

She probably hasn’t got any money left after buying a lockdown kitten and is resigned to staying home and eating Ramen Noodles until 2025 at least.
Find some new friends Grin

HappySwordMaker · 14/06/2021 21:05

Interesting. My BIL is like this, but with his two dogs. He says he can’t possibly work (hasn’t done in years), or attend social/family events (pre COVID obs). Utter frustrating madness. He gets really angry when we pull him up on it, and when I suggested he shouldn’t get another dog when these two pass away, he flew into a rage. Since then, when we’ve visited he bizarrely starts brushing the dogs’ teeth in front of us (with a human toothbrush - his own maybe? and children’s toothpaste). He does this to prove to us that his dogs are a full time job. I’ve truly barely seen him do anything else but nurse his dogs.

I have a pooch that I love to bits, but bloody hell he’s next level batshit with his.

BluebellsareBlue · 14/06/2021 21:07

To be honest I'd be saying "ok you clearly don't want to go for lunch or spend time with me but using the kitten as an excuse is actually very poor, I'd prefer thou just said you didn't want to go"

AnneElliott · 14/06/2021 21:08

Completely batshit - and I have 4 of the tiny overlords!

CathyorClaire · 14/06/2021 21:12

Lord above.

She's either unredeemably batshit or she really doesn't want to see you. Sorry either way, OP.

amylou8 · 14/06/2021 21:18

Get yourself a kitten and arrange a playdate. She'll have no excuse then.

NewSparkle · 14/06/2021 21:24

I’ve a friend who lives with her 2 brothers & someone must be with their dog at all times. He can’t be left alone. I kid you not.

Roselilly36 · 14/06/2021 21:30

If I was lucky enough to have a kitten, I wouldn’t want to go out either!

KevinTheGoat · 14/06/2021 21:33

She's making excuses. She can easily get someone to look after the kitten.

babbaloushka · 14/06/2021 21:36

We got a kitten that age and it was life as usual for us. The little monkeys sleep 21 hours of a day.

deathbypostitnote · 14/06/2021 21:38

Can you go to her house with a gift for the kitten and have lunch in the garden?

I think the kitten is a cover but equally, you won't be successful in getting her out of the house.

Aren't people beautifully odd.

Daphnise · 14/06/2021 21:42

She sounds unhinged- and definitely doesn't want to see you.

She's well on the way to a mad old cat lady.

BlowDryRat · 14/06/2021 21:45

Did she get a kitten to still have an excuse for not going out after the end of the Covid restrictions?

UnaOfStormhold · 14/06/2021 21:47

Cats and kittens across the internet are admiring this kitten's control of her human and would be keen to sign up for courses on the techniques she uses.

CandyLeBonBon · 14/06/2021 21:51

Ahhhh yes. The old 'feline mind control' technique!

Flibbitygibbit · 14/06/2021 21:52

Kittens need staying with ALL THE TIME. They are the kitten rules. We need a photo to coo over🐈‍⬛
