My friend has just got a kitten who is 4 months old.
She lives at home with her Dad (my friend not the kitten)
Anyway I said in a couple of weeks shall we do lunch ..her response
" I won't be able to because of the kitten,I can't leave her,I have to pop to the shops when she's asleep"

So I said "your dads home and lunch is only a hour"

She said "no she's too fast for him and we leave the patio doors open"
So I suggested maybe closing the doors for a hour

She said "I have responsibilities now and this is my life at home with her"

I mean surely you wouldn't let a kitten rule your life ?Grin
Imagine if she had a job ..would she never go to work again.
Aibu to think this is bat shit ?

Ha Ha I get not waning to leave a kitten but how on earth is she going too go shopping . get a hair cut , go to the docs , ?
Tell her to buy the kitten a new toy and put it the cat a litter tray and bowl of water in a room it can not get out of and a huge sign on the door telling her Ddad not to open the door

FluffyT · 14/06/2021 19:50

It depends what “just got a kitten” means. If the kitten is literally new to the household then she’s being a responsible pet owner. If she’s had the kitten for a few weeks already she just doesn’t want to go.

covidandborisandworld · 14/06/2021 19:51

What. She is mental

I have two cats. Left alone once settled. Only took a few days

I have a dog too even left him alone as a pup for an hour or two and now I'm he can be left fine for at least 5 hours. No separation anxiety

Your mate is a loon. I couldn't be arsed with a friend like that.

covidandborisandworld · 14/06/2021 19:52

To be fair if my mate had a kitten I'd be staying the night and having every meal there Blush I bloody love kittens.

JewelGarden · 14/06/2021 19:53

Maybe she's scared of covid and doesn't want to say in case you try to persuade her to go out still.

CandyLeBonBon · 14/06/2021 19:54

@KarmaStar

She's bonding with her kitten who has just left her mum and litter . Take round some lunch and play with the kitten.🌈🐈🐈
The kitten is 4 months old!!!
ILoveShula · 14/06/2021 20:00

Get her a harness and a lead for the kitten.

Fluffycloudland77 · 14/06/2021 20:05

4 months is still very young, if she’s not spayed and gets out she could get pg.

To a cat person it’s not unreasonable to be like this.

Golden2021 · 14/06/2021 20:07

My pussy needs attention too, but I still go out Grin

stayathomer · 14/06/2021 20:08

I'd say it's a new pet and she's being careful, she'll learn to relax but kittens are terrifying, you're afraid all the time!!!

notalwaysalondoner · 14/06/2021 20:08

It’s not good for animals to never be independent of their owners, it makes for very anxious pets if you do have to leave them for some reason. So even if she’s being honest, it’s a terrible approach.

nocoolnamesleft · 14/06/2021 20:11

Cannot offer advice without a photo of the kitten.

Onthegrid · 14/06/2021 20:12

If I didn’t trust the current occupants of my house not to let the kitten out then I wouldn’t come to lunch either.
Our last kittens came in the autumn and were 6 months old so no problem with open doors and they were quite happy to sleep whilst we were out of the house. That’s one of the reasons we have cats not dogs, although I am slightly worried that they are now less independent as I have been at home for so long.

harrietsunshine · 14/06/2021 20:14

Ah guys I would love to upload a pic of kitten
I have a few
Because I'm a new member it won't let me upload
The kitten is so cute tho

Exactly this. When I got my kitten I was permitted to wfh for the week for him to get used to his new surroundings, and get used fo me! But he was about 8 weeks old. If a 4 month old kitten has been at her place for a few weeks or more, the kitten seems to be being used as an excuse not to go
willowmelangell · 14/06/2021 20:17

I was never so popular as when I had a kitten! Friends turned up with wine 'for a chat' 'it's been so long'.
Much jostling on the floor to play with cries of 'he picked meeee!'
I loved it Grin
Clearly you are not a cat person

I've had 6 cats in my time. It's still ridiculous
Dashel · 14/06/2021 20:19

If she really wanted to go out she could play with the kitten to wear it out and leave it to sleep.

Is her kitten I’ll or anything? I wouldn’t leave a poorly cat, but sooner or later the cat needs to get used to being alone occasionally.

The empress of my house does permit me to go out as she quite enjoys being able to relax without needing to supervise me 24/7.

As others have said you could offer to round and met her new master and gauge the reaction

CrunchyCarrot · 14/06/2021 20:20

Aww sweet! She's already completely under the furry paw. Grin

Seeingadistance · 14/06/2021 20:22

@DoingItMyself

You mentioned a kitten, without a photograph.
This.
Butchyrestingface · 14/06/2021 20:23

There but for the grace of God go I except it was a parrot. 🦜

Ostara212 · 14/06/2021 20:27

I understand this

But why can't you go and meet the kitten?

Forgothowmuchlhatehomeschoolin · 14/06/2021 20:28

The reason l got a cat instead of a dog is so l can leave him for hours when l go out.
Mental!

Ostara212 · 14/06/2021 20:29

Oh sorry, I missed that you have been there

All is well. The Kitten Reigns.
