AIBU?

Boris Johnson in the sea

Did anyone else find the coverage of this mildly annoying. I found it to be so for three reasons -

  1. the BBC commentator made a joke about “oh is that Angela Merkel a bit further out?” Boris is the size he is, but if it were a woman of a similar size the papers would have a field day (or just any female politician of any size tbh).

  2. He has then set it up so that he is filmed walking down the beach with his shirt off. Carrie, of course, can’t be pictured in a swimsuit because of the way the press / society is, so she’s walking alongside in a long dress (even though she’s 20 years younger and the rest of it).

  3. I can’t stand him anyway.

@sambaa

What annoys me with him is how he evades any awkward question with, “Well, er, I think what the British people want....”

How many people on this country are unable to give a definitive answer as to have many children they have?

Imagine any female politician with an unknown amount of children. They would be torn to shreds and declared unfit for public office!

How many children does BJ have now? Is it 6 or 7? Not an unreasonable question.

And it's not just the number he has. (I agree that's pretty basic for most of us.) It's the fact that the ones old enough to have an opinion don't have much to do with him. "He's a selfish bastard" his eldest said. None of those children were at his wedding.

I just don’t understand how people can’t see why he does this stuff. He creates these stories to divert attention from the mess he is making. He diverts our gaze.
The roadmap out of Lockdown is in jeopardy because of decisions he took not to close our borders to the Indian variant. This will cost lives and livelihoods.
And his Brexit deal is damaging businesses and losing us trade.
Meanwhile our newspapers write about him having a lovely swim in the sea…..

Quite.
He didn't put India on the red list because he was desperate for trade deals with India having ripped up the decent trade deals he already had with our European neighbours.

People have already died here of the Indian variant. Others are very sick. And the way out of lockdown for ALL of us has been imperilled. That is absolutely Boris Johnson's doing.

But as long as he can get married (without combing his hair), and swim in the sea, and parade a much younger wife around in the sunshine, we are meant to be satisfied.

The swim I have no issue with as it is during a G7 summit. The needless visits for little more than PR guff around the country I do object to.

Seeing and hearing Johnson with other world leaders really highlights what an utter buffoon he is. It really is quite embarrassing.

I'm really quite jealous of the Americans. It must be lovely to look at your country's leader and bask in the fact that you've got rid of the idiot and now have someone reasonably presidential.

I'm no fan but I think this g7 has been a sucess photo wise for the UK, the backdrops have looked amazing! The sun, thank you sun!

Boris tucking into the sea, great, go get em. Grin where is macron! Why isn't he diving in...

Carrie is a fashion breath of fresh air, I'm so bored of kates rigid "look" the royals trotted out, I'm just wondering how on earth they got Biden Calverley down those narrow country roads.

Re swimming, maybe he can't do his jig and he's putting his mouth where his weight loss money is

Hmm - Sunday morning. Why are there no pictures of the Johnsons coming out of Church, since they profess to be Catholics? Going on holiday did not get you out of going to Mass.

Politics should be about more than just window dressing. The photos will never hide the fact that we are not able to open up society as Johnson promised us because he kept the border open to the Indian variant.
He did that. It’s on him.
Carrie looked marvellous, thoroughly approved of her fashion choices but she was wearing the very same Vampires Wife dress that Kate has worn numerous times.

Man takes swim in ocean. Left wingers need to Boris bash so I expect nothing less on here. Seems pathetic to me.

Too many fooled by appearances. Rishi Sunak is slim and conventionally good looking. I assure you he is still giving this country a royal seeing to and his policies seem suspiciously beneficial to his wife's business.

so true!

Personally for maximum global virtual signalling post Brexvidtannia perhaps Giant’s Causeway would have sent a stronger strategic united global Great Britain. Possibly the most striking UK UNESCO World Heritage Site stage managed backdrop especially with that new floating gin palace (the over priced leaky one with the American warplanes) would give maximum visual imagery especially as they are going to greenwash with their unlimited fossil fuel entourages etc anyway.

I don't think it's a PR stunt, he exercises every morning and why not go for a swim. Shouldn't we be gunning for the press to not speak badly about women's bodies, rather than be outraged they don't also mock men?

Didn’t David Cameron do the same a few years ago? It was discussed on the Today programme one morning this week and a former adviser said it would be a good thing to do. So he did it, in his endless quest to appear a Man Of The People, the cynical git.

I can imagine lots of people* fancying a bit of Vitamin Sea off a beach like that - I certainly would! - but never mind, any excuse for a good old Boris-bash.

*except of course the multitude of MNers who’d never fancy any such thing, because it wouldn’t be anywhere near hygienic enough - fish would have pooed in it, eeeww!!

Perhaps they don't feel the need to make it into a PR opportunity.

Margaret Thatcher often made a great show of going to church. Don't know if she went every week (with or without photographers) but there was little else about her that hinted at the Christian spirit.
