Why can't the TV channels stop filming while a player is being resuscitated rather than commenting on it. I've switched off. Hope they stop soon

He was awake when they took him off the pitch, there is a picture doing the rounds on Twitter.

I remember watching Muamba when he collapsed and the cameras cut away straight away. The footage of Eriksen should have done the same. Whoever thought showing close ups of his distraught wife should never work in television again.

halcyondays · 12/06/2021 18:25

Hope he’s ok. You’d think the cameras would cut away as soon as they realised something serious was happening.

lljkk · 12/06/2021 18:26

My tuppence: I don't object to the filming continuing.
We shouldn't hide these things away.

Imnotcrazyjustdrunk · 12/06/2021 18:27

The cameras should have cut away.
In Motorsport they do, and are very respectful.
I hope he's ok.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 12/06/2021 18:29

Thank you all. It was 15 years ago. But when this happens it brings it all back, hearts can be so fragile.

mollypuss1 · 12/06/2021 18:29

@fashionablefennel

i have reported this thread, it's vile to gossip about the event. I did click on it because I had no idea what it was about, I don't watch football.
It’s not gossiping. It was a horrific event to witness, I was in tears watching it. It’s perfectly normal to want to talk about something so distressing, especially when the topic of discussion is about how the BBC should stopped the feed as soon as it was obvious it was so serious.
freckles20 · 12/06/2021 18:29

Radio 5 have just said that they have confirmation that the player has been stabilised.

Alloftheboys · 12/06/2021 18:30

I agree that’s it’s important to have a place to discuss this traumatic event. However some comments are uncalled for 🙄
Hopefully he is ok. At least if it was a heart attack it happened in a place where medical staff got to him immediately.
Much “better” it there than alone at home/driving etc.

Grizalda · 12/06/2021 18:30

He is stable.

I disagree, we shouldn’t be showing images of the distraught wife of a man receiving CPR to millions of people around the world like it’s some sort of entertainment. We should hide these things away for the sake of his wife and family.
tigger1001 · 12/06/2021 18:33

We were watching. It was horrific to watch.

I am hoping he pulls though. My thoughts are with him, his family and teammates

You're the one that slows down at accidents aren't you?
RoseAndRose · 12/06/2021 18:40

I think the coverage was wrong.

It was a sudden and shocking event, so I'm can see why the first bits were broadcast - so unexpected and people might not realise immediately how serious it was. But they should have cut away much earlier (as soon as CPR began) - to elsewhere in the stadium as a temporary measure, and then to the studio as soon as they'd got someone back in front of the camera.

Glad to hear they have stabilised him

It's not about hiding things. It's about respect and privacy.
RoseAndRose · 12/06/2021 18:42

Statement from UEFA expected in next few minutes

MoiraNotRuby · 12/06/2021 18:43

Thank goodness he is stable.

wheresmyhairytoe · 12/06/2021 18:45

I'm so happy to read he's conscious and stable. Sending prayers for a full recovery and again apologies for my comment that was insensitive, as I say it was unintentional as I was extremely distressed.

Viggohytten · 12/06/2021 18:48

Don’t really care about the cameras. I have the choice to turn the TV off 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

CertainGecko · 12/06/2021 18:51

Cutting back to the studio was just as bad, I doubt Lineker et al wanted to be on TV discussing it, seemed like they been told to fill in a few minutes while some scrabbled around for a tape of whatever filler they put on.

Tweet from some pundit I've never heard of:

"Finnish fans chanting "Christian", Danes answering with "Eriksen" here at Parken. Even in its darkest times, this is a beautiful game"

SilenceOfTheNaans · 12/06/2021 18:55

My heart broke a bit watching it. They should have cut away.

BrutusMcDogface · 12/06/2021 18:55

It was horrific and heartbreaking, and I couldn’t agree more that it shouldn’t have been shown. I walked out of the room when we saw him being rescuscitated. His poor wife and family. Glad he seems stable.

Bourbonic · 12/06/2021 18:56

OK so I am Danish. It wasn't a BBC broadcast, they merely broadcast somebody else's universal feed so I can sort of understand. But I can't really understand why they couldn't cut the feed and go back to the studio or whatever.

You can't empty the stadium until the match has been officially abandoned. Please don't accuse the fans of wrongdoing when they actually conducted themselves (both sets) well, along with all players from both teams and staff.

It's a shocking situation, and the response maybe isn't always going to be as slick and efficient as we'd like.
