to think Plus size clothes ranges so frumpy?

PasstheBucket89 · 10/06/2021 08:57

Just looking at the Yours, Evans type sites and all of is it so frumpy even by normal standards, theres often the argument that the clothes are more expensive due to more fabric, but will make extremely frumpy options with lots if fabric Confused

in the summer range, i know lots of plus size people inc me are self conscious but what about being able to show off a good cleavage? or apple shaped women who often have slimmer legs they would like to show off, its all cold shoulders or smocks with butterflies. AIBU?

Even the model looks unimpressed to be wearing that terrible excuse for a dress!

blahblahblah321 · 11/06/2021 08:53

I like Yours for the basic's, last year they had T-shirt's with a nice neckline, capped sleeves and a really nice length. I bought one in loads of different colours. I'm not keen on much else in there though

My go to places are ASOS curve and New Look curve - although our new look seems to have got rid of that section Sad

blahblahblah321 · 11/06/2021 08:55

I also recently got a nice top from SHEIN curve, but I've heard they are a bit hit and miss

EishetChayil · 11/06/2021 08:55

It's the opposite in my experience! Plus sized clothes seem to be bigger versions of the weird, gappy and floaty straight-sized crap. Awful polyester fabric. No thought given to larger bodies.

Francescaisstressed · 11/06/2021 08:56

Would defo recommend the following;

  • ASOS curve
  • never fully dressed
  • In the style curve
  • Shein

Anyone have any other good places?

Divebar2021 · 11/06/2021 09:28

If you can afford a bit more then the American brand Universal Standard looks great. Fully inclusive sizing and a very diverse range of models to see what an item looks like in your size. Not a butterfly in sight.

Blueberriesonmyshreddies · 11/06/2021 09:30

Wish they would make plus size tops with slightly wider shoulders, larger armholes and wider and slightly longer sleeves. The plus size skirts and shorts just a little longer.

I need clothes to accommodate my back fat and bingo wings.
Too easy to take the quick wins by just upscaling regular sizes without thinking of proportion in other areas than bust, waist and hips.

MeowPurrGrr · 11/06/2021 09:44

Karen Millen also do a curve range and has some nice tailored pieces

AudacityBaby · 11/06/2021 09:58

I don't know if it's down to this thread, but the purple sack dress has just been reduced to under £200!!!! Bargain-acious.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 11/06/2021 10:04

I’ve looked at dresses in Yours and I think most are NOT frumpy. There are both cleavage enhancing ones and ones that show off your legs. There are at least a dozen I would buy.

AudacityBaby · 11/06/2021 10:04

My other bugbear - I'm fat and short. Clothing designers all seem to assume that fat people are also 6 foot tall and petite people are all teeny teeny tiny everywhere. Even if I can find the holy grail of something without cold shoulders, butterflies, glitter, "boss babe"/"yummy mummy"/"prosecco o'clock" slogan, polyester, shapelessness etc etc - it's then far too long in legs and arms. Arghhhh!

Oh god yes! I accept that I will never find clothes that will be the exact right length for me, I'm 4ft 10 so shorter than even petite ranges cater for, but to not even have a petite plus size option is so frustrating.
fantasmasgoria1 · 11/06/2021 11:16

Im not plus size but I have bought odd bits from shein and whilst looking through people can definitely not say the clothes are frumpy . There are many that you think would anyone really wear then but there are loads that people would. Personally I think breton tops are frumpy and boring. With paperbag waists I buy a Suze or two bigger than I am, put a wide belt around and the gather on the waist is more and it makes you look slimmer.

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 11/06/2021 12:12

So many mentions of Shein on this thread - please don't buy from them (Boohoo are questionable too after they were caught using slave labour in Leicester during Covid).
directory.goodonyou.eco/brand/shein
Shein have also been implicated in using slave labour from the Uyghur Muslim camps in China.
Please reconsider buying from them (or any other companies that sell cheap Chinese made clothes, like Romwe, or the many brands on Amazon with the 12 = XL size guides).

Blossomtoes · 11/06/2021 12:23

Breton tops are frumpy? Someone should have told Coco Chanel that.

BoattoBolivia · 11/06/2021 12:34

@Exhausted4ever the Ulla Popken V-Neck classic fit cotton tank might be perfect- they are long, cotton and come in lots of colours and only £9. I wear them all year round and just add a cardi in the winter.

See I find a lot of the armholes way too big and they then end up showing my bra (if they are sleeveless)

Thank you ill take a look

OldGreyBoots · 11/06/2021 12:47

Next definitely go up to a 26 or 28 in some of their lines, a lot of cotton too for the people looking for that.

She made them stylish.

Every other mum wearing cheaper versions with skinny jeans made them meh

Blossomtoes · 11/06/2021 12:58

What utter nonsense @MerryChristmasToYou.

Ozanj · 11/06/2021 13:08

Almost all the high st ranges do plus size up to a size 28 online. The on trend pieces tend to be found in ‘younger’ stores though. You could also go direct to independant dressmakers / tailors on etsy.

Opal93 · 11/06/2021 13:10

Shops I frequently order from now do all the same clothes in plus size as regular sizes now. Pretty little thing.com, boohoo and Inthestyle all have lovely summer plus ranges

MerryChristmasToYou · 11/06/2021 13:22

@Blossomtoes, What's nonsense about it? It's a classic look that got overdone recently that's all, so it no longer looks fresh and new.

APurpleSquirrel · 11/06/2021 13:28

God yes! My other bugbear is bloody animal print!
