Portugal possibly going back onto the amber list.
The only thing keeping my parents going is coming to celebrate toddlers DD’s birthday in the summer. It’s getting beyond ridiculous now. Feeling so low today, I miss my family so much.

Not RFT so apologies if this has already been asked, but I don't understand why the government is making people pay for two tests on return from an amber country, but then still insisting they quarantine for the full 10 days. What's the point in taking the tests then? Also: having had Covid, I was told not to take any PCR test for 90 days afterwards, as it would very likely be positive, owing to fragments of the virus still being in the body. So what happens to people in that situation who need to travel?

Justinversusmrtumble · 06/06/2021 22:00

@handsanitiser I’ve no idea myself 🤷🏻‍♀️Seems like overkill…my parents are fully vaccinated too and we’ve all had covid

I would suppose its being done to discourage people who can easily isolate, say retired, WFH or students from going on holiday to amber list countries?

Why do other countries offer free/cheap PCR tests (for travel) but the UK charges full retail

Justinversusmrtumble · 07/06/2021 13:03

@jasjas1973 Yes, it does seem like that

Either way, people will complain and be upset. I'm sorry you've not seen your parents Flowers

Err why?

The issue is that eu and usa citizens can go on holidays (or very soon can) and we cannot... despite that many countries are happy to have UK tourists either with a neg test and/or fully vaccinated and so far there has been no reason given.
Europe has low infections and high vaccination rates.

Meanwhile travel companies from airlines to airports to travel agencies are paying no tax, have staff furloughed and may go bust.

Snackz · 07/06/2021 13:34

@jasjas1973 Because no matter what decision is made, people will still complain. Like everything else!

If the government didn't do this and cases went up, people would then complain again! Smile

Justinversusmrtumble · 07/06/2021 13:46

@jasjas1973 Exactly, it’s the lack of logic about it all

Doesnt mean it wont get you?

MissMaple82 · 07/06/2021 20:48

It's all beyond a joke!!! Bores me to absolute tears

MissMaple82 · 07/06/2021 20:49

Vaccines don't mean freedom. Another reason I will be getting vaccinated.. its all bullshit

Justinversusmrtumble · 07/06/2021 23:01

@Coldwine75 I don’t understand, sorry

OP posts:
Justinversusmrtumble · 07/06/2021 23:04

@MissMaple82 I don’t know what to think half the time. It can be a serious illness, I’m still seeing weird histamine type flare ups and feeling ill since March 2020 so I know how awful it can be. But just some contradictions in rules etc don’t make sense

OP posts:
Coldwine75 · 07/06/2021 23:28

I meant you can still get covid despite vaccines and having covid already. Different strains will be resistant to the vaccine.

Justinversusmrtumble · 07/06/2021 23:33

@Coldwine75 Well hopefully not 🙏 I don’t know if I can go through that again

Covid variations are going to be around forever. What matters is how well the health services are coping with serious cases, not the absolute number of cases.
QuentininQuarantino · 08/06/2021 08:26

Yes but on that logic you either stay indefinitely in the bunker or learn to live with it and accept that vaccines are an incredible achievement that allows us to prevent most deaths and serious illnesses. There isn’t zero covid on the island of Great Britain, and the WHO has been clear that isn’t the aim.

TheLeadbetterLife · 08/06/2021 19:01

Exactly, that's what I'm saying.

Anyway, I expect it will all kick off next month when the EU brings in the vaccine passports. It's not going to go down well that Brits are stuck at home while everyone vaccinated in the EU is like, "I'm off to the beach".
