Portugal possibly going back onto the amber list.
The only thing keeping my parents going is coming to celebrate toddlers DD’s birthday in the summer. It’s getting beyond ridiculous now. Feeling so low today, I miss my family so much.

@Davros

I thought that the vaccine meaning things can "open up" and we can have some freedom, refers to within the UK. I didn't think it was supposed to be mainly to facilitate international travel. Surely what we all want first is change here in the UK?
In reality the vaccines were here to facilitate our lives back to 2019 and that includes the travel industry as well.

Ahhh I remember reading this and I’m SO glad your parents can see your toddler. It’s been shit not having much to look forward to Flowers

Justinversusmrtumble · 05/06/2021 21:18

@EasterIssland Thank you 🙏

@DulseSeaweed Thank you 😊
Yes, we’re thinking they’ll stay over the summer, rather than returning back to the U.K.
Just hoping things stay the same or obviously ideally go back to green. We hope to just make the very best of all being together this summer and will try not to worry about how things will be after that x

@QuentininQuarantino Yes, completely. Big ex pat community where I am and so so many families separated, also my best friend from Oz in London, many of my Portuguese friends go between the U.K. and here. It’s fairly standard for a lot of people and means so many families are apart at the moment, so sad.

@DreamingNow Definitely seems political..literally no one I know sees the logic in this, it’s bizarre.

Sorry yeah Garda is the police and yeah they tip your drink out. Huge park in Dublin has been barricaded off to stop the young ones hanging around being normal, canals were blocked off too cos they were having fun, Ireland is a horrible place to live right now

Justinversusmrtumble · 06/06/2021 08:25

@kittie01 That sounds awful!

I find this personally offensive

I've been deleted before for saying "jog on" and accused of chasing people off a thread.

OK, I haven't heard that before but I can understand if that's the case

Odd that many parts of the world hit equally hard but less vaccinated are opening up for travel, the french are allowing uk citizens fully vaccinated to come to france for holidays but according the Govt its far too dangerous. A casualty of this the new memorial in Normandy, these surviving veterans now may never visit and i think thats very sad.

As said previously, smacks of political games rather than public health.

missmopple · 06/06/2021 12:47

the french are allowing uk citizens fully vaccinated to come to france for holidays

Only with a negative test.

You can travel freely within the EU if you have had both vaccinations, but the UK remains an amber country and you need to have proof of a negative test.

If all i needed on my return from France etc was a negative test, i'd be there now. Its the 10 day quarantine that has effectively stopped all travel.

It just seems to me that all this stuff is to do with Brexit.

missmopple · 06/06/2021 13:03

@Bluethrough

Yes, of course, quarantine too.

Whatever changes happen here in France may appear to be good news for people wishing to visit from the UK, but France is still on the amber list so all of the quarantine and (expensive) testing on days 2 and 8 still apply when you return to the UK.

Bluethrough · 06/06/2021 13:14

Yes i know thats the rules @missmopple i just wonder why we are insisting on all of this?

France's CV rates are on par with the UK's now.

Are you wanting to stay locked away in the UK for many years to come?

missmopple · 06/06/2021 13:25

Are you wanting to stay locked away in the UK for many years to come?

Not at all. I wasn't having a go. As it happens I live in France.

I haven't seen my son for almost 18 months, and I haven't seen my daughter and grandchildren (who also live outside the UK but not in France) for just over a year.

The logic is, as you say, unfathomable Sad

Justinversusmrtumble · 06/06/2021 14:45

@missmopple & @Bluethrough This is it, in comparison to many other countries, the rules being passed just don’t seem logical 🤷🏻‍♀️

Justinversusmrtumble · 06/06/2021 14:50

@MarshaBradyo I’m not sure 🤔

@MarshaBradyo I have seen something similar re children in the last couple of days. I'll try and dig it out - I think it was from gouv.fr
