Portugal possibly going back onto the amber list.
The only thing keeping my parents going is coming to celebrate toddlers DD’s birthday in the summer. It’s getting beyond ridiculous now. Feeling so low today, I miss my family so much.

It’s gone beyond a joke. Indian, UK, bla bla variant. People die everyday. What was the point of vaccinating people if they still can’t fly. Masks stop the spread so why the vaccine, masks and vaccines work together so why the lock down. I hope your parents get to you soon 💐

Justinversusmrtumble · 05/06/2021 00:31

@kittie01 Thank you 😊

Yes anyone interested should look at the British lung foundation on Pneumonia. There will always be new CV variants, if we cannot travel now, we never will.

To me, the fact the UK has banned (in effect) travel to every single EU country, indicates something else is being played here.

US and EU citizens are taking foreign hols either right now, or very soon.

kittie01 · 05/06/2021 06:51

I’m in Ireland and we have tourists here, same as every year. I’ve no idea why they’re here because nothing is really open. Take away pints and Garda take your pint and tip it on the streets when the mood takes them. We can get take aways but can’t sit down and eat them. Transport running on half and Theatres, cinemas and historic centres all closed. It’s not about a virus here it’s about control. Until recently we could only travel 5k from our homes

Justinversusmrtumble · 05/06/2021 09:57

@jasjas1973 It doesn’t make sense, the other countries aren’t banning and their vaccine programme is nowhere near the stage of the U.K.

@kittie01 Are the numbers high there? Are many vaccinated?

@ripples101

Many replies in this thread have just been awful. The OP has been jumped on, for the “crime” of missing her family and wanting to be able to spend time with them.

Judging from the replies on this thread, in regards to this pandemic it seems we really are not all in this together. Many can’t empathise with the OP’s situation, and have instead chosen to have a go at her.

It’s just unnecessary. Yes, we have all suffered throughout this. Yes some have been able to deal with it better than others. And yes, we’ve all had to endure the covid idiots who seem intent on stating that it doesn’t even exist.

But by and large, can’t the majority here at least understand, through their own sacrifices, how hard it is for many people? Some of whom may not be stronger than you?

OP, I understand the reasoning behind many who have been critical towards you. I just do not accept that they didn’t have the ability to express their opinion in a much more sympathetic way. You didn’t deserve being jumped on OP, on the contrary, you deserved a handhold. Some have had it worse, many others have had it nowhere near as bad.

But we are all in this together. We shouldn’t be turning on each other. We should be helping each other and empathising. That isn’t hard to do either.

This thread has been such a disappointment to read.

Have the "awful " posts been deleted?

This just looks like a normal AIBU thread to me.

@Bloodypunkrockers Hi, yeah, lots were reported by various members and myself and deleted/stopped by Mn

I agree @jasjas1973.
Esp since they’ve put Portugal in amber, it shouts of a political decision too.

Of course there is also the fact that, if some people still go (whilst following all the rules) and they bring new e variants as it happened last summer, then they can still beat people up so no one looks too closely at policies instead

lifeinlimbo2020 · 05/06/2021 15:42

@WhatATimeToBeAlive

YANBU, but the fearmongers will tell you differently. Approx 4000 cases in a population of over 65 million is very, very low.
Exactly. We need to learn to live with this.

Did that actually happen?

Europe didn't seem to have any outbreaks of new variants until we gave them our far more transmissible version.

It needs repeating ..... the reason we have the Indian variant here in such numbers is because we allowed 20,000+ people to fly in from India with no restrictions enforced.

Plus govt did not step in and improve v low vaccination rates until the IV had established itself, then did so very successfully... so why not earlier???

kittie01 · 05/06/2021 15:55

Numbers are not high here at all but we’re still locked down, shops just opened but still queuing to go into them. Pubs can serve take away pints but Garda take them off you and tip them out. No gathering outside, they actually put big circles on green areas in bray and people are meant to sit in them 🥸 huge uptake of the vaccine but you still can’t do anything different and I’m sure it won’t change. Control at its best

Justinversusmrtumble · 05/06/2021 16:19

@kittie01 Omg, that’s shocking, excuse my ignorance, is Garda the police? I’ve been to Dublin but living away don’t tend to keep up with news etc. So if you stand outside drinking a pint, they tip it out?! That’s outrageous

That explains why I can't see any nasty posts

Yes, a number of deletions, including some of yours.

No need for any of it. Agree, disagree, ask if YABU and accept the answers but no need to get personal, eh

Justinversusmrtumble · 05/06/2021 18:58

@Bloodypunkrockers No need at all. Yes, one of mine which was in retaliation and mn advised me of it, which I agree that it should have been deleted.
As stated above by myself and many others, there’s a definite difference between debate and disagreeing and being nasty and personal and yes I responded once to those couple that were and fair enough it was deleted.

OP accused me of the same because I used the, apparently highly offensive term, "moaning" about people in general who can't get their own way down to a hugely damaging virus which we still don't have control of.

She then laughed when I said I find it quite off when my grandmother passed away of the virus last year and due to tiers I couldn't attend her funeral, so everyone has faced hardships but she will at some point see her relatives.

But yes, everyone else is nasty and vile. Not OP. Hmm

Justinversusmrtumble · 05/06/2021 19:18

@Bloodypunkrockers No idea what sock puppeting is and no interest in what you’re saying. Report whatever you want, I literally couldn’t give a crap, it’s okay.

OP I agree with you this situation is totally ridiculous. I really hope you get to see your parents soon.

QuentininQuarantino · 05/06/2021 19:26

I’m sorry for your loss bingbong but competitive grief doesn’t do anyone any good, this isn’t a race to the bottom.

Presumably, given the timeline, OP gave birth during the pandemic and has done the early years alone abroad - thats awful and your bereavement doesn’t mean you can belittle other people’s pain as “moaning” and dismiss wanting to introduce your mother to your firstborn as “getting your own way.”

I’ve lost a family member too, two in fact. Grief is awful, especially when you’re going through it alone and far from family, and I often want to scream at the world for turning when they are gone, and so I know you must be hurting a lot, but other people’s pain is very real to them and your posts are a little unkind. I hope you find peace Flowers

Davros · 05/06/2021 19:51

I thought that the vaccine meaning things can "open up" and we can have some freedom, refers to within the UK. I didn't think it was supposed to be mainly to facilitate international travel. Surely what we all want first is change here in the UK?

QuentininQuarantino · 05/06/2021 19:58

One in three British children has a parent born outside of the uk. There are an awful lot of separated families who probably care quite a bit about it.
