AIBU to hate this trend on Adult clothing?

There seems to be huge amounts of Disney logos, Disney characters and other cartoon characters and images on adult clothes. It makes me so cross. I do not want to dress like a child. Am I the only one who this annoys ?

Ps the Ursula reference was gold 👏 Hello fellow Disney weirdos 🙋‍♀️

I love Disney clothes. There’s loads of men’s t shirts with Disney characters on. We have Disney mugs too. And I’m currently drinking tea from a pot shaped like the genie’s lamp in Aladdin. If it’s not harming anyone what’s the problem?

I met a lady probably in her sixties the other day out walking her dog, wearing Beauty and the Beast vans. They looked awesome! There’s no age limit on Disney. Life is so much more fun if you lighten up a bit 😊

TangledUp789 · 03/06/2021 16:43

Men's clothing doesn't have Disney characters.

That’s just not true. Have a quick look at Tu and George’s men’s clothing and you’ll find Mickey Mouse, Minions, Peppa Pig, Goofy, Donald Duck, Trolls, Pixar, Pokemon, Marvel Avengers, Pac Man, Mario Kart, Homer Simpson, Seven Dwarfs, Wallace and Gromit and many other similar designs. Not all Disney I know, but all equally ‘childish’.

Rebornagain · 03/06/2021 17:00

I find it bizarre that people pay ridiculous prices for a t-shirt to have a brand name on it but it is entirely up to them. Couldn't get worked up by this

ladyflushing · 03/06/2021 17:24

Better than those playboy bunnies little girls were wearing a few years ago.

PVio · 03/06/2021 17:36

If you’d have asked me this question when I was in my 20s/30s and childfree I’d have agreed but I’m now 41 with a nearly 4 year old and she loves it when I wear something Disney so that’s mostly what it’s about for me. Seeing that stuff through the eyes of a child is magic though smile

There’s worse things in the world.

PVio · 03/06/2021 17:37

Plus Ariel’s always been my hair icon.

Proudboomer · 03/06/2021 17:39

I have two t shirts with goofy on both bought in the men’s section at Asda and a bargain at £6 each.

cherish123 · 03/06/2021 17:44

YANBU

I have not actually seen any adults wearing Disney clothing, to be honest. It would be childlike.

cherish123 · 03/06/2021 17:46

I am not keen on Disney, generally. It's quite sexist.

LifesTooShortForYourNonsense · 03/06/2021 17:50

Yanbu. The childishness is weird (and slightly disturbing) and people are being suckered into buying stuff

Rachel1874 · 03/06/2021 18:02

I am very proud to say I absolutely love Disney!! I have lots of Disney clothing amongst other things, and if that annoys you tough luck I'm afraid.

NerrSnerr · 03/06/2021 18:08

@LifesTooShortForYourNonsense why are people 'suckered' into buying it? Shouldn't people buy what they want just because you don't approve?

LauraPearl · 03/06/2021 18:09

It's not for me, but I certainly do not get cross about it. There's other fashions that I find much worse/uglier.

LalalalalalaLand123 · 03/06/2021 18:11

I've never seen this trend OP.
But I saw a girl wearing jeans with both buttocks of the bum ripped out of them the other day - I really hope that does not become a thing

angela99999 · 03/06/2021 18:23

I loathe them too, but for years childrens' clothes manufacturers have put them on everything. Even M&S. Why would you want pictures on clothes? Really awful, and I'm sure that the licence cost for using the pictures adds to the cost. As for adults wearing them, just no.

LifesTooShortForYourNonsense · 03/06/2021 18:23

I think people are being taken for a ride - often paying more or accepting cheaper quality just because of a certain image printed on a mug or t-shirt. The commercialism of what are kids films, that are paid for many times over by the merchandise sold by pester power is a cold calculated marketing exercise to extract money from people willing to part with it. Very far from the love and kindness values that Disney pushes. Suckered. Don’t fall for it.

Violinist64 · 03/06/2021 18:24

I’m with you, OP. I have been an adult for a long time now and really do not want to wear clothes that would be more suitable for young children (and l don’t much like Disney anyway). I hope l don’t dress in a staid manner but in a style that is suitable for my age, build and lifestyle. I don’t like writing or logos on my clothes either. I have a disabled adult son and he loves garish T-shirts and socks with Superman and the like on them so I do understand people with disabilities liking Disney clothes. I know it is each to their own but I think adults with Disney T-shirts look childish and rather silly (my opinion, before I am shot down in flames). You do you and I’ll do me.

mathanxiety · 03/06/2021 18:27

I don't own any and wouldn't wear it even if I got it as a gift. I avoid all logos though, not just Disney.

If I'm going to be walking around advertising something, I want to be paid for it, not the other way round

Ponoka7 · 03/06/2021 18:32

Worse than Disney has been the fashion this year for Peter Pan collars, frills and tiers. That's infantilising. If your budget is high street there can be nothing to buy for months.

21Flora · 03/06/2021 18:39

There seems to be a trend to start dressing in children’s clothing once you have a child. So much breastfeeding clothing looks like it’s designed for a four year old. I’m constantly recommended Popsy Clothing and Frugi clothes covered in radishes. I find it so odd!

Namelessnancy · 03/06/2021 18:45

Drives me mad when I'm looking for pyjamas. Pretty much all the comfy ones look like they're made for kids. Fine if you like it but a choice would be good. It's also hard to find them in dark colours which I'd prefer. Funnily enough DH doesn't have a problem finding pyjamas which aren't covered with cartoon characters (or dinosaurs/football/ cheeky monkey or whatever the standard issue boy clothes are).

OhMyMirror · 03/06/2021 18:46

Just throwing it out there because no one else seems to have mentioned it, but...Gucci have a Disney line 😂
I own loads of disney clothes, I also have subtle bits throughout my house and a couple of Disney makeup collections.
For me it's a reminder of the few happy times myself and my kids had while living with an abusive ex husband. Disney was (and still is) an escape for us, be it in movie form or a Disneyland trip.

Bertiebiscuit · 03/06/2021 18:54

Totally agree - I never buy such childish crap but it does really narrow down my choices of t shirts and pyjamas - I don't understand women who want to dress like their kids 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮

Imissmoominmama · 03/06/2021 18:55

My DD is 22, but her LD means that she’s functioning at around age 7/8.

I was very happy when Cath Kidston brought out their Mickey Mouse stuff because she loves it.

Me, I hate it, but I love the Moomins, so I’m hardly in a position to judge.

Hertsgirl10 · 03/06/2021 19:05

It’s weird unless it’s pjs
