There seems to be huge amounts of Disney logos, Disney characters and other cartoon characters and images on adult clothes. It makes me so cross. I do not want to dress like a child. Am I the only one who this annoys ?

Funnily enough DH doesn't have a problem finding pyjamas which aren't covered with cartoon characters

Then buy men’s PJ’s for yourself. Problem solved! I mean there’s really no difference in men’s and women’s when it comes to PJs.

These sorts of conversations on MN do make me laugh really. I mean you get the one side of “women wearing Disney clothes is sad” or similar but those of us that do so aren’t going to change our minds on what we wear because of a few randoms on MN. It’s one of those arguments/debates with no right or wrong and no real end. This is definitely not the first thread of this kind I’ve posted on!

stackemhigh · 03/06/2021 19:15

But those of us that do so aren’t going to change our minds on what we wear because of a few randoms on MN.

Equally those of us who don't like cartoon clothes don't care what randoms on MN wear. We just want more choice.

I'm 32F and own a rather beautiful Alice in Wonderland tshirt. Just Alice surrounded by all the talking flowers.
I also bought a Tom and Gerry Tshirt. I am a massive fan of that cat and mouse duo.
I guess on older women it might seem/appear to be a bit silly but it's just a bit if fun!

Proudboomer · 03/06/2021 19:24

I think there is a slight exaggeration on not being able to buy non Disney pajamas
So in the interest of research I did a google shopping search
www.google.co.uk/search?q=womens+pyjamas&client=safari&hl=en-gb&biw=1114&bih=723&tbm=shop&ei=5hy5YMGvF-eSjLsPgIyJ6Ac&oq=womans+p&gs_lcp=Cgtwcm9kdWN0cy1jYxABGAEyBAgAEAoyBAgAEAoyBAgAEAoyBAgAEAoyAggAMgQIABAKMgQIABAKMgQIABAKMgQIABAKMgQIABAKOgQIABAYOgYIABAWEB46CAgAEBYQHhAYOggIABCxAxCDAToKCAAQsQMQgwEQQzoECAAQAzoICAAQ6gIQjwE6CggAEOoCEAoQjwE6BAgAEENQlrIBWPvbAWCN5wFoAXAAeACAAV-IAZYMkgECMjeYAQCgAQGwAQrAAQE&sclient=products-cc

One pair of Disney on the first page only so if you are looking for non Disney you are not looking very hard.

zukiecat · 03/06/2021 19:30

Most of my nightwear is Disney, and I have water bottles that have Disney characters on them, I'm not bothered what anyone thinks.

I also love Unicorns and have Unicorn clothing, bedding, and just about everything else Unicorn.

I'm 54, and I like it, so don't really care what anyone thinks.

DD2 is 28 and also loves Disney.

Namelessnancy · 03/06/2021 19:32

Yes, buying mens pyjamas works but the fact that the womens selections can predominantly be broken down into either cutesy or sexy irks me more the older and grumpier I get.

bumblebee1987 · 03/06/2021 19:35

I hate when people voice opinions like this, it just feels really rude and unnecessary. You have PLENTY of other choices if you don't want clothes with Disney on them, PLENTY. Should they stop selling them because some people find it weird? I don't like tattoos, so guess what, I just don't have any, I don't feel it necessary to negatively comment on what other people like. My husband is covered in them, doesn't affect me in any way.

For the record, I am 34 years old, I own an apparently embarrassingly large number of clothes with Disney characters on them, and I spend the majority of my life listening to Disney music and mentally planning my next Disney trip. Maybe that makes me weird and childish, but I've given up caring. If you want to judge me for wearing a Mickey Mouse jumper and favoring the Moana soundtrack over Coldplay, then so be it. I do what makes me happy, and it's not hurting anyone 🤷‍♀️

Bangolads · 03/06/2021 19:39

tbh I don’t understand why you care- people wear all kinds of odd things. It feels more childish to care this much than to wee the clothes 🤷🏼‍♀️

RunningFromInsanity · 03/06/2021 19:42

Everything is thin and see through now. I have to wear t shirt under a tshirt. Pisses me off.

bumblebee1987 · 03/06/2021 19:45

Do you know what, further to my comment above where I said I no longer care, that is actually incorrect. I do care what other people think, and I am actually genuinely upset that apparently other adults are looking at me and thinking I'm 'weird 'disturbed' or any number of horrible things said on this thread, all because I wear Disney on my clothes. This is a total revelation to me, I had no idea that anyone else really cared or even noticed what I wore. It has taken me years to get to the point of not caring and just accepting myself as I am, but apparently I should just put myself back in a box.

HeadFullofRandom · 03/06/2021 19:52

Oh I used to work with a lady in my first job who was in her 50's, she loved Disney and every year would go on holiday somewhere with a Disney store and buy lots of things.

She brought me back a mug once, it was Winnie the Pooh and I loved it. It was very sweet of her and probably cost a fair bit, I know official Disney branded merchandise is expensive.

Tbf she didn't wear her Disney stuff to work.

CecilyP · 03/06/2021 20:03

But it’s not just Disney. I hate any design that looks more appropriate to a toddler. I also hate random writing so ‘lovely weekend’ and ‘love is enough’ would also be a no from me.

Annie2245 · 03/06/2021 20:03

Since when did Disney become for children only ? I subscribe to Disney + every month and my three adult children boy 26 girl 23 boy 21 all have a login they use regularly. I only by the sleepwear with Disney on but am quite obsessed with pyjamas so that’s a lot of Disney clothing. Each to their own though if you don’t like it that’s fine I’m sure there are things in your wardrobe that wouldn’t be to my taste. It’s really not something to get wound up or angry about. What does it matter to you what others wear x

CecilyP · 03/06/2021 20:05

No men’s pyjamas are cut to men’s shape so Jane ridiculously arms so definitely does not solve the problem.

sweeneytoddsrazor · 03/06/2021 20:08

Oh my you would hate our house. I have a bambi and a piglet onesie, eeyore nightshirt, a few Disney tops and a Minnie mouse bag. Daughters (grown up) both have various Disney pjs and dressing gowns including, dumbo, dalmatians, Ariel thumper and minnie. Then we have Disney bedding and a Disney dinner service.

Also have lots of non Disney characters including Stewie, Peter Griffin, The Wet Bandits, pokemon, dragonball z, Mario, and various band t shirts.

'And one of the ways that you make a woman feel that she's not good enough is by making her feel that she isn't young enough. In our society, youth is equated with beauty.'

She suggests the reason why these characters from childhood are marketed to grown women is because there's a subliminal association: if you're still playing with dolls or watching cartoons, you can't possibly be old, so you must still be youthful and consequently beautiful.

'They're pushing you to identify yourself with someone younger because, by implication, it will make you appear more attractive,' she says.

'You don't see Bulldog doing a limited edition Superman razor,' he says. 'Can you imagine Gillette or Nivea trying to sell skincare to men using Kermit the Frog?'

interesting take on it

Meruem · 03/06/2021 20:11

Please don’t, I love seeing other adults in fun clothes! For every “hater” there will be another person who loves your style. As other posters have said, people being really judgmental says more about them than it does about the person they’re judging.

CecilyP · 03/06/2021 20:11

Absolutely, Fine if you are a size 10 or 12 with no lumps and bumps but ridiculous in larger sizes. I wasn’t sure if I was imagining it until I went shopping in one of my existing t-shirts and could feel the difference. I also still have one I bought at M&S. 10 years ago and the material is even thicker!

littlemisskt · 03/06/2021 20:14

I wear them when we go to Disney, I just wish they weren’t all Basic T-shirt style or stupidly expensive. My husband happily wears a logo T-shirt every day and I wish there were more Disney options!

So true. Trying to find a top that my bra doesn't show through is so hard. I hate wearing vests underneath, just feels too warm and uncomfortable.
bumblebee1987 · 03/06/2021 20:24

@meruem

Thank you 😊 I just hate the judging. I have struggled with anxiety for a long time and finally am starting to feel happy as I am and embracing what I like, so I find conversations like this upsetting. I understand that people are entitled to opinions, but where do you draw the line between a genuine opinion versus people just being unnecessarily nasty? You are right though, for every hater there will be someone who likes my style I guess!

Agree. I love it too. I don’t have any Disney stuff, but I do have shirts with quirky phrases that I know some people would eyeroll but I don’t care. I love them and that is what matters. If they don’t like it or want to go as far as thinking they’re superior in some way.. they can go right ahead, I don’t care. Life is too short to worry about such people or to wear things just because they’re supposedly “adult-like”, again whatever that means.

bumblebee1987 · 03/06/2021 20:27

@phoenixrosehere

You are right, we should do what makes us happy and what we love. We're not hurting anyone! I am genuinely baffled that other adults judge each other in this way though, I can honestly say that I couldn't care less what other people chose to wear!

@ERFFER

H&M are terrible at putting cartoons all over their men’s clothes? Who’s buying Rick n Morty or Sponge Bob Square Pants merch that’s A: a hipster H&M shopper or B: an adult male? And they do it every season ? Donald Duck all over denim shorts? So weird. They must sell them or surely they wouldn’t keep doing them?
Teenage boys? OK so maybe not the Donald Duck shorts. But both my boys would wear Rick and Morty. Or Spongebob.
