AIBU to hate this trend on Adult clothing?

There seems to be huge amounts of Disney logos, Disney characters and other cartoon characters and images on adult clothes. It makes me so cross. I do not want to dress like a child. Am I the only one who this annoys ?

OP posts:

Ha, you will hate this guy I know, OP. He is in his 60s and lives for Disney. His clothing reflects that.

FlyNow · 03/06/2021 04:12

@AnxiousAlpaca I'm in Australia so not sure if this will be of use to you. I've seen them in Target (a low end department store) and Peter Alexander (an upmarket pajama shop).

stackemhigh · 03/06/2021 05:04

@bellie710

I find the same with children's clothes, everything has unicorns, mermaids or Disney on it. I would love to know if they consult kids when they are designing as my 10-16 yr olds wont wear any of it.
I think this is it. No one cares what anyone else wears, it’s just a pain when you find something nice in your price range and find it’s been Disnified.
SallyCinnabon · 03/06/2021 05:32

YANBU, OP, it's extremely infantalising. Men's clothing doesn't have Disney characters.

Star Wars, Marvel 😜

stackemhigh · 03/06/2021 05:42

Those are both pre-Disney.

BlusteryLake · 03/06/2021 05:48

Personally, I think adults look silly in character clothing, but that's their choice. It doesn't stop me finding and buying the type of clothes that I like to wear.

3Britnee · 03/06/2021 06:29

@Professionallytorn

Often see an otherwise nice top which I might like to buy, then wait, Mickey Mouse ears on it, or worst.... Wish i could find same clothing without the kids designs on, but I can't. Frustrating.
You really can't find t-shirts without disney characters on? Really? 🤔
3Britnee · 03/06/2021 06:35

I've got irregular choice shoes and lindybop dresses. I'm sure you'd find then even worse but so what, not everything has to be serious and sombre allllll the time.

Nicolastuffedone · 03/06/2021 06:44

YANBU, I have no desire to look like an overgrown toddler, I always imagine adults think they’re so ‘cute and girly’ wearing something like Minnie Mouse sweatshirts or whatever, but each to their own I suppose....

Winkywonkydonkey · 03/06/2021 08:02

Loving all the posters who are pretending they've never set foot in George at Asda or Primark.

Where does one find such monstrous clothes? I've never seen them in Selfridges Grin

Lulu1919 · 03/06/2021 08:21

Agree....horrible.....but I don't buy them because I don't like them ...anything cartoon ,Disney, OTT logos / pictures .....ugh

Meruem · 03/06/2021 08:39

Wow, how patronising! It’s nothing to do with being cute or girly. I’m as far from that as you could get. There is no “approved” way to be an adult, much as some people seem to think there is.

Whyhello · 03/06/2021 08:41

I don’t like it at all either. One of my oldest friend’s is obsessed with Harry Potter so she has collectibles all over her house as well as numerous items of clothing. She also visits Disney world every year purely for HP world. I find is very strange.

....you forgot the bit where I said each to their own. Who cares what you wear, its my take on it 🤷‍♀️
CecilyP · 03/06/2021 09:34

Sorry, butmy take is also ‘cute and girly’ or that must surely be what manufacturers are thinking. Otherwise just why? For day wear there’s plenty of choice but for nightwear it’s often the majority that looks as if it’s aimed at toddlers. Matalan is particularly bad but the trend also seems to be creeping in to other stores like M & S. Fine to say don’t buy it but your often left with little choice. That’s why I’m wearing nighters that are falling apart!

Not really. Look at courtney love and her baby doll dresses.

Yes! I said this only the other day about M&S! I don’t want a nightie or pyjamas with Eeyore or Minnie Mouse printed on it! I’m an adult, not a 3 year old. Obviously, there’s a market for it, but it’s definitely not for me. But, if that’s the kind of thing you want, crack on. I prefer to look like the adult woman I am.
TheMNChicken · 03/06/2021 10:41

It may come as a surprise to learn that wearing a tshirt with Minnie Mouse on it doesn't fool anyone into thinking you're younger than you are.

Just to be hugely picky but HP is in universal, not WDW.
alltoomuchrightnow · 03/06/2021 12:29

I hate it but then I hate Disney
I work in a superstore so see people passing through all day long wearing it

isithotinhereorisitjustme · 03/06/2021 12:33

I actually really like it as I've a tall pre-teen DS with additional needs/ severe development delay who adores Mickey Mouse and it's lovely to be able to get him clothes that fit him with his favourite characters on (at non Disney store prices!)

Nietzschethehiker · 03/06/2021 12:38

Meh it's not my thing and I wouldn't wear any of it. I can't say I'm annoyed by it. I was slightly surprised at how much of it is in shops because I didn't realise my friends and I were such outliers to be honest. I can't think of any adult woman I know who wears it but it just made me wonder if we had become a bit boring. Maybe a bit of light fun would be a good thing for us.

If it makes people happy then I'm all for it. There are enough clothes to go around that are not Disney based so I can't say I feel disadvantaged.

It clearly makes her happy. I am the same as your friend but with the Alien films. Me, a woman in her 40s, has a house full of books, posters, action figures etc. I don't care if anyone thinks that is strange.
seensome · 03/06/2021 13:57

It's been around for years, I never understood it either but each to their own.

hazandduck · 03/06/2021 14:56

I’ve got my two Dds Woody and Buzz pjs, they are 3 and 1, but I also got their dad a matching Toy Story t shirt for Father’s Day 😂 He’s 32. 😬😄
