There seems to be huge amounts of Disney logos, Disney characters and other cartoon characters and images on adult clothes. It makes me so cross. I do not want to dress like a child. Am I the only one who this annoys ?

There are plenty of clothes out there for everyone for all kinds of budgets in different styles.

If someone was 100% comfortable in their skin they wouldn't need to be unkind about what others wear. I don't buy the whole 'choice' thing. Primark isn't 'full' of Disney stuff and if you're actually shopping in primark in person you're on a high street so it's likely there's a number of shops nearby (and although Primark may be cheaper M&Co etc aren't that much more expensive). It's just an excuse for people to make themselves feel better about themselves by being an arse to others.

Dum-dee-dum...

N0tfinished · 03/06/2021 21:44

I'm with you OP. Disney clothes, adults who go to parks without kids, collect figurines, etc etc. I have zero interest in it, absolutely don't understand the appeal. Same with stupid logos on T-shirts, pajamas

Yabu. People like what they like. Disney is all rehashed grimm fairystories anyway which are dark and grownup but made to appeal to children. Theres no reason at all adults cannot like disney thats just you being a weird snob and trying to police harmless joyful things people like.

Also mens clothes also do feature disney. Marvel is now owned by disney and superhero clothes are big as well as rick and morty, spongebob, dc and other cartoons. No ones forcing you to buy it and its such a small part of the clothing market its not like you go into a clothes shop and 99% of the clothes are disney themed.

phoenixrosehere · 03/06/2021 22:55

I am genuinely baffled that other adults judge each other in this way though, I can honestly say that I couldn't care less what other people chose to wear!

I am not. Some people seem to think if they don’t understand why people like something, the people that like it are the problem. I don’t get the hype around Stars Wars but I don’t think I’m better than those who do because of it. Why do I need to understand or get it? The way I see it, it makes people happy, maybe giving them a bit of escape from the mundane, giving them a bit of hope or optimism when they’ve lost some. Whatever the reason, it makes people happy so no need to begrudge them.

101waystoworry · 03/06/2021 23:26

I live Disney, that does not make me a child! Lots of people like Disney, there are lots of of other clothes that are not Disney related, though they do all seem to have holes in them or be cropped!

Lostandtired1 · 04/06/2021 07:59

I find the whole Disney thing unsettling....just the amount of products that are available. Each to their own I totally don’t give a shit what anyone wears, I just think it’s the whole Disney concept aimed towards adults is odd.

Someone I used to work with had a Disney themed wedding. I was horrified and blurted out ‘that’s really weird’ and everyone looked at me like I was mad. I just don’t get it Confused

ConstanceGracy · 04/06/2021 08:10

If I’ve ever worn a Disney too it’s been because I am in Disneyworld or Disneyland. Other than that it would only be used to sleep or decorate in.
I haven’t been to primark for well over a year but that seems 70% Disney/ Harry Potter crap now

Probably more because you were extremely rude and should have kept your thoughts to yourself. I hope that person wasn’t in the room when you said it.

That’s so mean. Do you always speak before you think? Guessing you weren’t invited...I had a kind of ‘Up’ themed wedding! If someone had said that to me I would have been crushed tbh.

I think that's what I feel too, it's not adults wearing these things that's annoying, it's that the fashion / beauty industry is pushing women to identify with things aimed at young people so that women feel more attractive and youthful if they buy them.

Yeah your probably right.

Still... having a wedding based on children’s entertainment maybe should be called out.

Lostandtired1 · 04/06/2021 10:34

It’s blurring the lines between children/adolescence and adults. Which is never, ever a good thing.

Yes I was rude and yes I usually do think before is speak but on some occasions it happens- I’m sure everyone has said something they maybe shouldn’t have at some point in their lives, so back off with the ‘aren’t you rude’ comments. Some things should just not be accepted as ok in society, it’s encouraging infantilism in plain sight.

"I had never heard of this, just googled and i’ve fallen down a hole, noooooooooo! I want it all! Is it the gorgeous red backpack youve bought? I’m having a backpack moment!"

Hopefully you can see the attachment! I regret nothing.

I LOVE IT!

@HeadFullofRandom

Ooh just remembered Irregular Choice shoes!

If I had the money I would buy lots of those beautiful, sparkly, garish and weird shoes - which is really weird for me because I normally dress very conservatively, wear boots every day and don't like or wear high heels in general.

There's just something about some of those shoes that make me want to own them.

I wore irregular choice shoes on my wedding day! Grin
bumblebee1987 · 04/06/2021 12:16

@Lostandtired1 - Sorry, but am I understanding you correctly? Having a Disney themed wedding or wearing a Mickey Mouse jumper is 'encouraging infantillism'?! Seriously?! Is it that alien to you that adults could just enjoy Disney, without it being weird?! Why is it up to you to call someone out on it because YOU personally don't think it should be accepted in society? I'm struggling to understand what exactly you are getting at here.

I have two children, I'm happily married, I run my own business, but I like to listen to Disney music and wear jumpers with Disney characters on them- sometimes even when I'm working in front of clients! What exactly about that is causing a problem in society?! Who am I hurting? What is the issue? I am fully aware that I am 34 years old, and I am also aware that Disney isn't actually magic, but I like it, it makes me happy. I would have loved a Disney themed wedding, but I wasn't brave enough, largely due to opinions like yours, so I settled for a Disneyworld honeymoon instead, and it was amazing.

If you think that is 'blurring the lines between children/adolescents and adults,' then I assume you have a HUGE issue with the vast majority of children's clothing which are very often mini versions of typically adult clothing? Would you rather I wore a cropped top with stripes, over a jumper with Minnie Mouse on it, would that make you happy? You say you don't care what others wear, but you seem to have very strong opinions!

Lostandtired1 · 04/06/2021 12:24

@bumblebee1987

Yes it is alien to me.

I think dressing children as adults and adults as children is concerning. Also embroiling children’s entertainment into your adult life (such as using these themes to get married) is odd. I’m not asking you to agree with me or to make me happy. Please don’t start your post with sorry then rip into me- why are you so mad about what I said?

TheMNChicken · 04/06/2021 12:26

Some people on MN are just very insecure about needing to be seen as a "proper adult", I think.

There's not a Mickey Mouse jumper on Earth that can disguise the fact I'm a rapidly approaching 40 and my hair is going grey at the speed of light. Wearing a jumper with a cartoon character on it does not suddenly make me 30 years younger.

BingBangBong1 · 04/06/2021 12:29

Not just you OP!

It's on a par with the cold shoulder tops, or tops that don't cover the naval

I'm 40! I want a sensible top, with no cut outs, the covers my wobbly bits and isn't an over grown version of a kids top or with slogans that make no sense to someone of my age

Even my teen was complaining that she couldn't find naff all in Primark this week as everything was overly kiddy or girly or tight or short.

I don't mind them on pajamas at a push but otherwise no!

bumblebee1987 · 04/06/2021 12:46

@lostandtired1 - I am mad because I find it offensive and unnecessary to be rude about other people preferences when it has absolutely no impact on your life whatsoever. All this thread has done is belittle me and make me feel like I should be ashamed about the fact that I like these things. Maybe you do find it odd, but is it really necessary to write the things you have? You aren't the only one, there are others on this thread who also feel the need to do the same, but I dont understand why? You don't need to understand it, you don't need to like it, you don't need to do it, but why be so opinionated about others who do? There is a fine line between having an opinion and just being unnecessarily mean for no real reason. What would make my jumper any more acceptable if it had a picture of a flower on it as opposed to a picture of Minnie Mouse? It's a picture, on a jumper! What makes it odd? People like different things! I'm hardly going out wearing a smocked dress and frilly ankle socks am I.

I apologise that you got the brunt of my anger when there are apparently many others who agree with you, but your comments just struck a nerve with me.

phoenixrosehere · 04/06/2021 12:50

Still... having a wedding based on children’s entertainment maybe should be called out.

Why? How is it hurting you? If you were invited, you could just as easily decline. I don’t get what the issue is. Many people grew up with Disney. It may have been something that reminds them of simpler times, or something that made them really happy, it could even remind them of someone they love and miss.

Plus, are you really forgetting what a lot of those Disney things were based off of fairy tales with adult themes. Perhaps, we should read and make movies out of the actual fairy tales and let children watch those instead.

Nicolastuffedone · 04/06/2021 12:54

This is a forum, we were asked a question, people have given their opinions, that’s how it works 🤷🏼‍♀️ Of course wearing goofy on your t shirt doesn’t make you look younger, but, in my opinion, it’s childish. I personally don’t understand why adults choose to dress as children and love all things Disney, but as I’ve already said, each to their own! I’ve recently been very fortunate to have been given an well known brand of trench coat for an upcoming birthday, I love it! Who cares if you don’t? Wear Disney clothes all you want, they’re not my taste or style...I care not a jot.

Thisistherhythmofthenight · 04/06/2021 12:56

Lol casually scrolling thread in my Minnie mouse pjs knowing full well my nightwear is majority disney. I also love the adult barbie clothes too, got an oversized t-shirt with barbies on it Grin.
On the other hand I can't stand maternity wear with stupid mummy slogans on or gym stuff saying I don't sweat I sparkle etc. Would happily wear something with fuck off in big letters on it though 🤣🤣🤣
