AIBU to hate this trend on Adult clothing?

There seems to be huge amounts of Disney logos, Disney characters and other cartoon characters and images on adult clothes. It makes me so cross. I do not want to dress like a child. Am I the only one who this annoys ?

OP posts:
OneMamaAndHerGirl · 02/06/2021 20:09

Imagine being “cross” over disney 🤣

Holothane · 02/06/2021 20:10

You’d hate most of my T-shirt’s then either Dr who or Star Wars.

Arrowheart · 02/06/2021 20:13

I wouldn't wear it but don't mind that others do. I wouldn't be seen dead in it if I'm honest but I hate every single thing that is Disney.

cmonarrycmon · 02/06/2021 20:15

@Professionallytorn

Often see an otherwise nice top which I might like to buy, then wait, Mickey Mouse ears on it, or worst.... Wish i could find same clothing without the kids designs on, but I can't. Frustrating.
Where are you shopping, OP?! Unless it's exclusively Primark and H&M then I think you're exaggerating somewhat Personally I don't mind a bit of Disney, or maybe Snoopy. There are a heck of a lot of clothing styles that I really dislike. Cold shoulder tops, for example, and Skechers. But I don't need to wear them so I can't say it bothers me too much Confused
Kottbullar · 02/06/2021 20:17

Considering there's quite a lot of it about I don't really see any adults wearing character clothing.
I have a Peanuts sweatshirt although DH has vetoed it Hmm

I think most people wear this sort of clothing at home. I have quite a few slightly bonkers pieces of comfy clothing I wear at home that I would never wear in public (even though I wear them more than any of my "normal" clothes!)
AlCalavicci · 02/06/2021 20:30

I wouldnt wear Disney clothing but I cant get worked up by it as long as it is appropriate ( Dduck t-shirt in a board meeting might not go down well )

What does bug me is people wearing clothes with band logos / images on when they have no clue about the music .

Last year I meet up with a friend of a friend he was wearinf a t-shirt with the evolve logo on from Imagine Dragons album cover .
I said I didnt know you liked ID , he said I have never heard of her ( its a male lead band ) when I asked why he was wearing it he said cos everyone else is

SHEEP !

FindingMeno · 02/06/2021 20:37

I don't mind at all if other people wear that sort of thing.
However I am sad sometimes when I see the perfect top/ sweatshirt/ whatever and would like to buy it, only to see its got a big Disney character/ inspirational quote/ brand name on it, because its just not my taste.

Reallyhadenough · 02/06/2021 20:38

Sort of agree... but I own adult Disney clothing. What really got me (when my kids were little!) was everything for babies/ kids had silly ears!!!

Suzi888 · 02/06/2021 20:41

Yes, I’ve seen it. Lovely top, then I saw Minnie on the side. WTF! 🤣 each to their own though.

InFiveMins · 02/06/2021 20:41

I said this to my DP tonight! Went into Sainsbury's and there were adult women's clothes with Disney stuff on them. Freaks me out and wouldn't buy them for anyone 18+ to be honest.

Snugglepumpkin · 02/06/2021 20:41

This is not exactly a new trend.
My mother wore Fred Flintstone flares back in the 70s with large puffy appliques of Fred, Wilma, Barney, Betty & the dinosaur on the legs & we had Magic Roundabout bedding.

I've seen similar stuff on Adult clothing in every decade since then too.

I don't usually like most of that stuff but I do have a Hong Kong Phooey t-shirt somewhere in the depths of my t-shirt drawer.

Just buy the clothes you like & let everyone else do the same.

InFiveMins · 02/06/2021 20:43

Same goes for Harry Potter themed stuff with grown adults buying it...weird.

Iamnotminterested · 02/06/2021 20:48

Can't not think of this Grin

Don't get it either. I don't like character clothing on kids either, I think it looks tacky- sorry, just my opinion. My kids only have Disney or character etc on pj's. X

coffeepleeease · 02/06/2021 20:58

I’m a huge Disney fan and wear Disney clothes. I have a pair of Mickey Mouse trainers. I don’t understand why you’re so cross - don’t but it if you don’t like it Hmm

frankenpoodle · 02/06/2021 20:59

It's a non-issue. Just keep looking. I don't buy Disney-themed clothes, but if someone gave me some, I'd wear it around the house. I also don't like some of the proper adult clothes in shops, because it's uncomfortable, impractical, difficult to care for, or too revealing for my tastes.

I don't think this is anything new, either. I remember seeing adults wearing Disney-themed clothes when I was younger, which would've been thirty-odd years ago.

EmpressSuiko · 02/06/2021 21:08

Nope, I love it! I wouldn’t be me without my band tees, disney tops, fun logos etc.
There’s plenty of “grown up” clothes to choose from so I don’t see the issue.

stackemhigh · 02/06/2021 21:08

This is what I imagine the Disney fangirls to look like.
WhatWouldPhyllisCraneDo · 02/06/2021 21:14

@Pollypocket89

I made a similar comment to a friend, just a throwaway one and her reply changed my perspective completely

Her sister is 34. She has special needs and has the mental age of an 8 year old... And loves Disney. In that moment I felt like such a cow, I'd only considered it from my perspective and that I'd never buy it in a million years... But my friends sister should be able to have clothes she loves

This is a very good point. My friends DS will only wear t-shirts with dinosaurs on. He's almost outgrown the biggest ones she can find.

Ok so dinosaurs aren't Disney. But it's an example of why things traditionally aimed at children are sometimes needed in adult size.

NoProblem123 · 02/06/2021 21:14

You sound quite cross OP.
You need to watch more Disney

(....in your happy Disney pants Grin)

TheMNChicken · 02/06/2021 21:17

I don't have anything with Mickey Mouse on it (I think) but I did recently drop £70 on a Loungely Sanrio 60th Anniversary handbag... because I'm an adult and I can do whatever the fuck I like.

ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 02/06/2021 21:19

Yes I find such causal fashion for grown ups a bit childish. Not sure why cartoon icons are big with adults? However I rarely see any such trends in my neighbourhood as it’s currently bright colour floral design flowing wrap dresses, classic denim jackets with Vera white trainers or Luluemon yoga wear etc. Not a fan of cartoons for adults but these do perfectly match young pre teen children particularly girls.

Thehawki · 02/06/2021 21:20

Eh I think they can be cute. I don’t wear the day clothes but I will wear the pyjamas if I want to. I have no problem liking childlike things, I’m still a woman.

FlyNow · 02/06/2021 21:23

I don't wear that type of thing but it doesn't bother me, there are thousands of other clothes to choose from.

I've recently seen Bluey themed clothes for adults. Bluey is a cartoon for toddlers! At least Disney is aimed at children and to some extent "the whole family".
