Lovely day, neighbours playing music in garden

Live in a detached house, so it’s not as though we have anyone too close, and reasonable sized gardens, but we do have other houses around us, so don’t expect silence.

Neighbours over the back are in their garden as it’s a lovely day, fair enough so are we, but they have also got their music playing. Loudly.

Aibu to think it’s the height of rudeness to have music blaring in the garden knowing full well others around can hear it too? It’s Christian easy listening type of music.

Tempted to put a bit of Motörhead on the Sonos, but that would be a bit passive aggressive. So I’m just stewing in silence and posting here instead - it’s certainly not making me feel very Christian!!

We should start having loud sex in our gardens😁

I mean, it's our garden, during the day, so we have a right to do whatever. Innit.

KarmaStar · 31/05/2021 08:35

They are insufferable idiots who play loud music not giving a flying fcuk if anyone else wants to quietly enjoy their garden after a difficult week,or on night shifts, have young children sleeping.or just want to be.none of these things irritate anyone else but entitled egos who think they can do what they want in their garden.well they can,but when it stops other people doing what they want because they are intruding, then it's no,don't be a selfish fool.Yanbu at all.

Tossblanket · 31/05/2021 08:36

I'd go with the motorhead option as they're awesome.

If you hate them give them a dose of Pitchshifter 👍🏻

Pottedpalm · 31/05/2021 08:47

@Auldspinster

I remember when I lived in a tenement near Edinburgh University and about 30 students were having a sing song with a guitar in the shared drying green - quick blast of Sonic Youth at their most dissonant out of my window sorted out the singing studes in no time and peace was restored.
I quite like the idea of the singing students, as long as it was at a reasonable hour!
CandyLeBonBon · 31/05/2021 08:48

Hah yesterday we had the neighbour's loud music, screaming (and I mean high pitched, constant screaming at each other in anger type of screaming, not the ebb and flow of play kind of screaming) and dog who barks CONSTANTLY every time I am in my garden.

It was joyful.Confused

This is why I wine! 😭😂

gurglebelly · 31/05/2021 09:30

I wouldn't expect anyone to wear headphones while listening to music in their garden, but it is perfectly possible to have it at a volume where you can hear it but it doesn't intrude too much on the neighbours. Unfortunately a lot of the 'it's my garden I can do what I want' brigade are incapable of listening to their music at anything less than full volume

user1471538283 · 31/05/2021 09:41

The thing is if you live close to people you need to be more considerate not less. It is not for those not playing loud music to be more tolerate.

People know they are being noisy. They also hate having it pointed out and hate other peoples noise.

You cannot underestimate the impact this has on people and we are still in the middle of a pandemic.

TheBullfinch · 31/05/2021 09:43

It’s extremely rude and akin to anti-social behaviour in my book.

Those who do it leave others around them with no option but to listen, if they play it loudly. Very selfish.

If you want music, play it quietly, indoors or on earphones.

I feel the same way about people shouting, darks barking, incessant drilling or banging, singing or engine revving. There’s just no need to subject other people to your noise. Some people seem oblivious though or think it’s perfectly normal. It’s not.

motogogo · 31/05/2021 09:56

What's wrong with playing music outside? As long as it's not all day or late (after 11) at night

cushioncovers · 31/05/2021 09:59

Nothing wrong with music but not all day long.

motogogo · 31/05/2021 09:59

@BadgeronaMoped

That made me smile! Dp had music on when he was fixing his motorbike Saturday and next door but ones toddler was dancing (he always wants to come and see the bikes)

Rosebel · 31/05/2021 10:00

Yes it's annoying and I'd probably put music on too. People behind us have been cutting their grass for an hour now and that's irratating too (especially as they only have a small garden so don't know how it's taken an hour).
Thankfully we're going ou in a minute.

motogogo · 31/05/2021 10:01

You should all be glad you aren't my poor neighbours ... dd has an audition soon and is practicing a lot, she's very loud (but very good thankfully) I hope they love operaGrin

Motherof3dogs · 31/05/2021 10:07

Dh listens to radio 2 constantly in the garden when working or relaxing, Its not loud and we only have 2 sets of neighbours as it's rural. I hope they don't think we're the neighbours from hell!

MaMelon · 31/05/2021 10:11

Presumably she doesn’t practise outside for hours on end when people are trying to have a quiet afternoon in the garden?

SchrodingersImmigrant · 31/05/2021 10:28

I was carefully peeking throught upstairs windows last week when someone was mowing lawn few houses down. It only caught my attention because it waas well over 45 min. Same size like mine. They went over it again and again and again and again and again... Igo over twice from different directions and it takes 15 min tops. Hope they are ok tbh🙈
PaperbackRider · 31/05/2021 10:55

@Vodkaandballoon

How is it rude & offensive to play music in your own garden?. I was lucky enough to buy a house with a garden & I will bloody well use it. I will play some music, my kids will have nerf wars out there & camp out with their friends. I will have friends over for drunken bbq's, hell I might even get a hot tub this year. All of that is OK because it's MY garden.
So you can do anything you want in your garden, even though you are stopping all of your neighbours doing what they want in their gardens? You selfish shit.
Bigbluebuttons · 31/05/2021 11:36

@ Motherof3dogs they hate you. They live in the country for peace, not fucking Tepid FM.

Bigbluebuttons · 31/05/2021 11:37

@ motogogo it’s inflicting it on other people.

Radio two is the station of choice of our deaf wanker neighbours. We definitely hate them!

We've tried listening to it ourselves to see if it's less annoying but all our radios are digital and theirs is an old-style one so they are at a slightly different time.

Well I don't complain about their screeching grandchildren in their pool. It's all about tolerance.

This. Just don't be a dick basically
vivainsomnia · 31/05/2021 13:51

EVERYONE has the right to enjoy their garden. For some thats with music for some it's without. Why can't the two live together and get their way sometimes? It doesn't have to be all or nothing either way
Standard words of those who are just self-centered parasites who can't fathom the notion of respect for others.

As per my name, I suffer from insomnia. I am up at 4am most nights. Would you have that same attitude if every night at 4am, I were to have jazz music loud on so that it woke you up and you couldn't sleep? You'd be massively pissed off, not going about how it's ok because I have the right to enjoy my home.

You're attitude would be that most people sleep at 4am so this should be respected. Well most people don't want to have to listen to other people's music when they are relaxing in the garden, so the same principle applies and the needs of others should be respected.

vivainsomnia · 31/05/2021 13:56

Except cutting the grass is an activity than can't really be avoided. Most people would otherwise and if they could make quiet lawnmowers, I'm sure they'd be very popular.

Listening to loud music is in no way a necessity.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 31/05/2021 13:58

Get Rammstein's 'Pussy' from Spotify and play it very loudly, on a loop.
