Lovely day, neighbours playing music in garden

Live in a detached house, so it’s not as though we have anyone too close, and reasonable sized gardens, but we do have other houses around us, so don’t expect silence.

Neighbours over the back are in their garden as it’s a lovely day, fair enough so are we, but they have also got their music playing. Loudly.

Aibu to think it’s the height of rudeness to have music blaring in the garden knowing full well others around can hear it too? It’s Christian easy listening type of music.

Tempted to put a bit of Motörhead on the Sonos, but that would be a bit passive aggressive. So I’m just stewing in silence and posting here instead - it’s certainly not making me feel very Christian!!

@AnnieSnap - I don't blare it or anything. I had it on low for an hour while reading my book. Unless were having a party/BBQ (which our lovely neighbours are always invited to) its always off by 6/7 the latest.
Every house around me has a trampoline or swimming pool for their children. Modern life includes noise from time to time. Our house is also next to a primary school. During term time I can hear them playing out all day. It doesn't bother me.

Of course it is inconsiderate.

RantyAnty · 03/06/2021 14:48

There's enough noise without adding to it.

Why can't people just wear earbuds or headphones to listen to music outside? The noise cancelling ones are great.

I feel your pain. Our neighbours have music on in the garden constantly as soon as the suns out. They have all their freinds round, smoke weed, get drunk, swear a lot, sing. Usually about ten they have a falling out which may or may not include fighting and/or the police.

The one good thing I can say is that they are always quiet by around ten pm.

You dont think actual speakers in your garden are inconsiderate?

Words fail me....

We have speakers for use in our garden and we're not inconsiderate.

We don't "blare" the music out either; we have it on loud enough so we can hear it but not so much that we can't still talk to each other without shouting. Because we're listening to the same thing together, headphones would actually be more unsociable!

I know that it doesn't annoy the neighbours because a) they're usually either playing their own music or doing DIY or whatever else and b) they've told us they don't mind.

Well it got worse today. The neighbours are away( normally very considerate ect) and a workman started a bloody generator at 7.17am, had it on for nearly an hour and then left.
Why, just why?

I can live with things like that because it’s temporary. Unfortunately, living in suburbia, the temporary noise caused by electric saws caused by people having their trees pruned in the spring is repeated again and again, but I know it will eventually stop. Of course that’s completely the wrong time of the year for the poor bloody trees, but so many people seem oblivious to that!

How is it rude & offensive to play music in your own garden?. I was lucky enough to buy a house with a garden & I will bloody well use it. I will play some music, my kids will have nerf wars out there & camp out with their friends. I will have friends over for drunken bbq's, hell I might even get a hot tub this year. All of that is OK because it's MY garden.

It is this kind of attitude that makes other people’s lives a misery. Super selfish and I hope I’m never your neighbour.

just because you own a property doesn’t give you the right to inflict noise on other people 🙄

Put speaker/music at the rear of your garden, baby shark on repeat, go out for lunch for a few hours.
That'll get the message across

Strim and then mow your lawn - start drilling something even planks of wood that will make listening to their music hard for them and their know that noise not nice when your relaxing

And 3 years since this thread was actually started 🙄

Just a guess here, but your suggestion leads me to think you’re probably the one whose making the loud noise on a beautiful summers day making everyone’s life around a misery, just a guess, but I don’t think I’m far off the mark!

Roxholme32 · 31/07/2024 15:51

All these suggestions about people should wear ear buds to cancel out the music, why not those who play their loud music use earphones!!!

Roxholme32 · 31/07/2024 15:56

My view is if they were reasonable they wouldn’t do it in the first place!
