Lovely day, neighbours playing music in garden

Live in a detached house, so it’s not as though we have anyone too close, and reasonable sized gardens, but we do have other houses around us, so don’t expect silence.

Neighbours over the back are in their garden as it’s a lovely day, fair enough so are we, but they have also got their music playing. Loudly.

Aibu to think it’s the height of rudeness to have music blaring in the garden knowing full well others around can hear it too? It’s Christian easy listening type of music.

Tempted to put a bit of Motörhead on the Sonos, but that would be a bit passive aggressive. So I’m just stewing in silence and posting here instead - it’s certainly not making me feel very Christian!!

Really inconsiderate.
Tape the music and when she's quietly pottering in the garden blast it back through speakers.
This scenario would only work if she were to then complain about your noise. Your noise which is in fact her feckin noise.

On second thoughts scrap that idea. She'd most likely never complain and you'd be left feeling even more angry.

Notimeforaname · 30/05/2021 15:16

Had a great time in my garden yesterday listening to my neighbour blasting the Beatles.
He's making a habit of it recently as his wife just died. He gets out to the garden every day and puts on her favourite musicSmile
I dont find it rude. People are enjoying themselves. Ive heard him and other neighbours sing along to my garden music at times.

FlyingSoHigh · 30/05/2021 15:19

Outside is a shared space - putting on music might be what you want, but is absolutely shit for your neighbours.

osbertthesyrianhamster · 30/05/2021 15:22

@NameyNameyNameChangey

YANBU, I hate people who feel the need to "share" their taste in music! Of course they have the "right" to play the music... but it's bloody annoying!
No one has the right to inflict their music on other people. Seriously hate this about the UK. Seems to be the thing to blast music.
NameChange74567 · 30/05/2021 15:25

I feel your pain, I can hear my neighbour across the road playing music in their garden. It it drives me mad, especially when trying to get the babies to sleep.

whatshallihavefordinner · 30/05/2021 15:27

I'm extremely lucky, none of my neighbours play music outside and I back onto a school playing field, so weekends and holidays are peaceful anyway. I do miss my lovely young neighbour who moved last year, she was a beautiful pianist and summer evenings were bliss listening to her play.

Mythologies · 30/05/2021 15:28

Why do people suggest headphones!!!
I don’t want to wear headphones in the garden- I want to listen to the birds and reasonable children noise and maybe the occasional muted music.
The FUCKERS who have had horrible excruciatingly loud base on since 8 this morning - BTW they are at the bottom of the garden two doors down- should wear headphones.
I will wear headphones if I want to listen to the radio because the neighbours should NOT be expected to have to listen to my radio.
What the fuck is wrong with some people
And yes - when it stops for a few minutes is is like when a headache goes - pretty sure headphones don’t even keep that level of base out

WouldBeGood · 30/05/2021 15:30

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow

My neighbour plays her guitar and sings Christian songs in the garden.

I just want to kill her really.

🤣

This wouldn't bother me and I have never seen the anger towards it irl that I see on Mumsnet.

Lots of people do it but if not all the time or late at night I don't care. If it bothers you speak to your neighbour

Chickychickydodah · 30/05/2021 15:39

I think a bit of rammstein or AC/DC on full blast for a while sounds good 👍🏻

Mythologies · 30/05/2021 15:40

“.People are perfectly entitled to listen to music in their garden. It would only become a problem for me if they started playing it at unreasonable hours. If you don't like their music, put your own on. It's not passive aggressive.”
WTF
OFFS! Loud music played for hours on end is pig fucking ignorant - end of - at any fucking time - in fact especially on a nice day

EdgeOfFortyNine · 30/05/2021 15:42

Someone up the road from us is currently playing their music so loud that I can’t hear our television. There’s loud and then there’s loud.

Mygardenisanightmare · 30/05/2021 15:44

I just asked my DH if he's on MN when I read this - although our neighbour's choice is more Ibiza style (we're late 50's so it's not really our taste)

Er, I'm mid 50's and absolutely love Ibiza tunes, classical or christian music would drive me totally nuts. Speak for yourself. The fab dance/rave scene in the late 80's/90's was full of people who will now be in their 50's

MaMelon · 30/05/2021 15:44

YANBU - inconsiderate fuckers. If you want to listen to music outside invest in a pair of headphones and stop inflicting your choice of music on others.

impressivelycunty · 30/05/2021 15:48

Put on Tubular Bells, take an upside down cross and start hissing at them over the fence.

Meatshake · 30/05/2021 15:50

My old neighbour used to do this, absolute twatting cow of a fish wife, vaguely sure she was an alcoholic too. she ended up having a go at me for idling my car for too long near their house (it was 35 degrees, I just wanted 5 mins of not feeling it cos I was 8 months pregnant) so I told her she was a fine one to talk about being a decent neighbour and copied her faux-essex accent yelling "alexaaaaar play the beeegeeeeeeez" which she did all hours of the day or night. She stfu fairly rapidly 🤣

katy1213 · 30/05/2021 15:50

Ask them what Jesus would do?

SunnyMustard · 30/05/2021 15:50

Why are British people (assuming here) such cowards. Suffer in silence and mope about it, how mature. Just have a chat and I'm sure they'll be happy to turn the volume down a bit.

comingintomyown · 30/05/2021 15:51

YANBU. I’m trying to be reasonable about the dog two doors down barking outside on and off all day from 7am ffs

BetterThanKleenex · 30/05/2021 15:52

OP do we live in the same house? My neighbours are playing and singing hymns very loudly and have their bbq blasting smoke around the street with their screechy kid carol singing too. DH is bringing out some speakers :)

oneglassandpuzzled · 30/05/2021 15:56

@Crazycakelady17

Oops DH is outside with his friend laying a new patio with music playing I don’t think it’s rude it’s just as annoying as our local church bells chiming every hour of the local school kids playing out we have two within 100 metres Put some headphones in or go inside
On bank holiday Sunday? Yeah, that’s annoying.
Vodkaandballoon · 30/05/2021 15:59

How is it rude & offensive to play music in your own garden?. I was lucky enough to buy a house with a garden & I will bloody well use it. I will play some music, my kids will have nerf wars out there & camp out with their friends. I will have friends over for drunken bbq's, hell I might even get a hot tub this year. All of that is OK because it's MY garden.

oneglassandpuzzled · 30/05/2021 16:01

Because you’re inflicting your taste in music on everyone else. Kids playing and lawn mowing is different. Parties with music, occasionally, fair enough. But we don’t want to hear your music so put some headphones on.
