How passive aggressive is this! Neighbour and parking

We live on a street on which all of the houses have drives and where there are always lots of parking spaces on the road.

We have two cars and park one of our cars on our drive and the other on the road outside our house. Our neighbour has one car and always parks it on their drive. The space outside of their house is always empty.

Yesterday we had a visitor to our home who was here most of the day. They parked outside of our neighbours house. This wouldn’t have caused them any inconvenience because as I mentioned they always park on their drive.

This morning dh has gone to work and the neighbours have moved their car off their drive and parked it outside of my house.

It’s not a big deal but it’s so ridiculous it’s funny! Who has the time or headspace to be this petty!

Maybe they are expecting visitors and are leaving their drive for the visitor to park on

BruceAndNosh · 29/05/2021 14:10

or 2 sets of visitors

Nanasueathome · 29/05/2021 14:12

Your DH will be able to park outside their house when he gets back

WildWestWanda · 29/05/2021 14:12

I don’t think they are as they have gone out on their daily walk.

They might not be doing it for petty reasons as a PP has said. If they are, they are only spiting themselves as surely the car is safer on their drive. I'd just ignore it and do my best to show I'm unbothered.

Some people are so wierd about people parking outside their houses. But maybe give them the benefit of doubt.

Bargebill19 · 29/05/2021 14:20

When we had a house - I did this. Simply because it was the nearest available spot, and so that a plumber could plonk his van on our drive. Having a boiler fitted and get it was an easier and safer option for his van and tools.
Was Ibu?

MissKeithsNeice · 29/05/2021 14:20

You can def win this because a) You've got two cars so can bag both spaces and b) They care more than you.

LaBellina · 29/05/2021 14:28

They’re really petty.
Don’t play their game but just nod your head and ignore. Don’t stoop down to their level. They’re being ridiculous and every normal person can see that.

OrangePowder · 29/05/2021 14:32

I think it's highly unlikely the two things are related and that you're looking for trouble.

I usually park on the drive, but occasionally on the road for example if I'm expecting a large delivery, or visitors, want to sweep or weed the drive, or when DC were small, they wanted to ride bikes up and down it or chalk on it.

PepeSilviaDoesNotExist · 29/05/2021 14:32

I love how bizarre people are.

When your DH comes home and has to park outside their house, they will realise they didn’t think this through.

Dentistlakes · 29/05/2021 14:33

Well, neither of you own the parking outside your house. I don’t see the issue. You can choose to take it as passive aggressive or not let it bother you.

AvonCallingBarksdale · 29/05/2021 14:38

Parking can send you mad though. We live in a close and all houses have space for 1 car, two if people have “done” their driveway. Ironically we have the biggest drive but are the only house with just one car. There are 2 spaces at the bottom of our drive which are a free-for-all and we and our neighbour regularly park there to avoid having to look at other people’s old bangers and, in one case, white van, that the wanker owner of prefers not to park outside his own house. 🤷‍♀️. I would never buy in a close/cul-de-sac again and dream of the day when we can move to the middle of nowhere or win the lotto 😂

newnortherner111 · 29/05/2021 14:40

You could next time you meet them ask if their visitor who could not come is better from their illness with a look of concern? Or why the tradesman let them down?

OrangePowder · 29/05/2021 14:43

Ahem you know for a fact they've gone out for a walk and do so daily....? I wonder what they have to say about their curtain twitching neighbour Grin

FourEyesGood · 29/05/2021 14:45

I think you’re coming across as the petty one here, to be honest. Why would you even notice something like this?

Macncheeseballs · 29/05/2021 14:46

No-one owns the road

daytriptovulcan · 29/05/2021 14:47

Its not ridiculous if hes legally parked. You need to grow up.

BlackeyedSusan · 29/05/2021 14:50

some people have houses with a lounge looking onto the front and can see stuff happening on the street without having to peek out behind curtains. Confused there is no big deal in observing what is going on in the street..

Catswithflamingos · 29/05/2021 14:51

Hahaha this reminds me of when a neighbour was so passive aggressive to us.

Our house was on a slight curve in the road, meaning that parking 100% in front of the house (on the road) wasn’t possible. You would either have to park halfway on the pavement (a big no no in my book - for that location) or some of your parked car would be in front of the neighbour’s house.

We didn’t have guests often and always parked our car on the drive. Over Christmas my dad came to stay and parked where he was a little over the front of next door’s garden. Next door had 4 spaces on their drive.

When my dad left they went and parked their car there, then came and rang the bell to tell us they were parking there, and they Hmm ‘just wanted to let us know’.

I literally don’t care? I have actual real life to worry about

Catswithflamingos · 29/05/2021 14:52

Neighbour was a cyclist as a hobby so that says it all.

OrangePowder · 29/05/2021 14:53

There's no big deal in noticing something occasionally, knowing your neighbours exactly daily movements suggests an inordinate amount of interest has been taken. Likewise with the car parking. So they've parked on the road today. If I noticed, why would I care?

AbsolutelyPatsy · 29/05/2021 14:56

i dont think you should have parked outside their drive, people dont like that

WildWestWanda · 29/05/2021 14:59

@OrangePowder

Ahem you know for a fact they've gone out for a walk and do so daily....? I wonder what they have to say about their curtain twitching neighbour Grin
Our houses overlook a public path alongside a river. I am sat in my garden and saw them walk past. Hardly curtain twitching.
