Too often we see people on here and elsewhere on social media expressing the hope that those convicted of sex-related offences will get attacked in prison. It's horrible under any circumstances: it's condoning criminal assault and even murder, and effectively it's giving carte blanche to violent men and women to commit serious assaults while we all merrily look the other way. It's bad enough when the person has been correctly convicted, but it's inevitable that innocent people will get caught up in it and get victimised. I hate those posts, they come over as so smug and thoughtless, and I wish MN would stamp down on them more.

@Everleigh2021

the paedophile who killed the 8 year old we found (was first officer on scene, years ago now but i think of that little boy daily) got murdered in prison by Damien Fowkes

sorry but i'm bloody glad!!

Fucking hell, you're a copper? It's no wonder public opinion of the police force is so low if it's full of people like you...
RoseRedRoseBlue · 29/05/2021 22:02

Vicious tell me about it, this person is a disgrace to the uniform IF they are a Police Officer.

ViciousJackdaw · 29/05/2021 22:06

Rose I've just done an AS on her - she says she works in 'non-food essential retail' these days. In other words, B&Q.

RoseRedRoseBlue · 29/05/2021 22:08

😂😂😂

Cherrysoup · 29/05/2021 22:10

I think it’s outrageous that the parole board made such a terrible error. The bloke is a criminal but didn’t deserve to be treated as a sexual offender when he was not inside for that.

Saying that, I told a friend the other day that I would hand her the hammer if she ever found herself in a room alone with the monster that sexually assaulted her son.

There is a man I know who preyed on young girls. He was charged, convicted and imprisoned. His fellow inmates found out why he was inside and beat him up. He walks with a permanent limp. Frankly, I think he got off lightly. Given the impact a sexual assault has on the victim, I don’t think a death sentence for the perpetrator would be excessive. 🤷‍♀️

RoseRedRoseBlue · 29/05/2021 22:14

The death sentence will always be excessive.

SinkGirl · 29/05/2021 22:15

I am a survivor of child sexual abuse and I find the idea of sex offender being assaulted or worse in prison absolutely abhorrent. It doesn’t fix anything, it doesn’t take back what they’ve done, it doesn’t help the victim.

All I care about is prevention. Prevention doesn’t happen when people are too scared to seek help before they offend, and where people know they’ll be attacked if they’re marked as a sex offender by seeking help.

If we condone attacks, assault and killing we are no better than the abusers.

Ponoka7 · 29/05/2021 22:16

"I do not condone violence but I wouldn't lose sleep if someone convicted of violent crime was a victim of violent crime."

As said that person doing the beating isn't doing it out of moral outrage. They consider themselves entitled to make a judgement and carry out a beating. Football team lost? Entitled to give their partners a slap. Stressed? Entitled to have their family living in fear. The list goes on to include road rage (that kills), a one punch kill or brain damage, to outright murder. As though them commiting violence is justifiable and outside their control. The most dangerous offenders are those that think a set of circumstances entitled them to inflict bodily harm. That's what is being condoned, allowed and then that person released back into society.

Personally I'd like separate prisons for sex offenders and those who possess child abuse images, so they all get custodial sentences, rather than walk free from court because there's no rehabilitation courses inside.

RoseRedRoseBlue · 29/05/2021 22:17

Sink unfortunately some posters can’t differentiate between justice and retribution, let alone rehabilitation. Hope you are doing ok.

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 29/05/2021 22:18

I don't believe in vigilante justice in any way shape or form. This case is a rarity which is why it's made the news.

However if I hear about an actual sex offender being attacked I don't really conjure up much sympathy TBH.

oooh aren't you clever, but no. you are wrong...again
Nothingwillcomeofnothing · 29/05/2021 22:22

I am a person who was raped when I was a child.
My brother wanted to kill my father, but I persuaded him not to , it would only result in my brother on a murder charge, not my father.
I would apply the same dynamic to people in prison, don’t extend your sentence / get extra time on behalf of some lowlife whose crimes you can’t eradicate.
But in terms of inmates, there’s a pecking order, honour amongst thieves, etc. Every one likes to think there’s someone worse than themselves.

Everleigh2021 · 29/05/2021 22:24

@NameyNameyNameChangey

op...sorry,but I'm glad. you expect them all to be cosy and protected in prison?? nah....you're deluded

Cosy, who cares? Maintaining their basic human rights, yes.

basic human rights such as being fed,clothed etc yes they get all that covered, course they are looked after

social interactions...not so much

RoseRedRoseBlue · 29/05/2021 22:26

Let’s all be thankful you are no longer in the Police Force.

I think you would change your mindset if it was you those sickos attacked
TableFlowerss · 29/05/2021 22:43

This situation s really awful and I feel sorry if this guy.

In general though, if there’s anything to do with them committing atrocities against children (nonses) then they are a different kind of evil.

There are some crimes that are just beyond the realm of forgiveness. As above so it’s not surprising other people want to batter them. I’ve got zero sympathy I’m afraid. You commit such a disgusting crime well you deal with the consequences....

My sympathy is never with the criminal, it’s always with the victim.

TableFlowerss · 29/05/2021 22:45

@TwoAndAnOnion

Frankly, the majority of offenders have low educational attainment, anger management issues, and higher than general population incidence of historic traumatic brain injury.

Then look at any forum, or online media comments page and the level of projected violence is phenomenal. This forum is no different, I've only read one thread this morning and so far it's gone from encouraging the OP to be a nuiscience neighbour, to actively breaking the law by letting tyres down and damaging a vehicle, another commentator offered to pimp out her 6'4" stoner ex as a menacing thug.

One would hope to assume the level of education on this forum is higher than the national average, either that or the conclusion is drawn that the population is generally vengeful.

Off you go Mary Poppins!
CharlotteRose90 · 29/05/2021 22:46

Police are meant to not be biased but I think most police would be glad a sex offender is dead. My ex partner is a police officer and his worse cases were child sex abuse ones. Once an offender always one. No amount of rehabilitation will change it. My friends niece was abused by her grandad, he went to prison came out and did it to 2 other girls. Rehabilitation does not work and these people are disgusting scum .

Miseryl · 29/05/2021 22:48

Sex offenders are kept together on a separate wing to other types of offenders- they are referred to as VPs or Vulnerable Persons, so the notion of them being left to the mercy of men from the general population is false.

NameyNameyNameChangey · 29/05/2021 22:49

You don't have to have any sympathy with someone to think that they shouldn't get beaten to a pulp in a state prison. I don't care about these people on an individual level, no. Stick them in solitary, whatever.

Whether you agree the sentence is right/too light or not, they have been sentenced to a certain amount of time in prison. That's it. That's their sentence. It shouldn't include physical punishment or torture- from the state or other prisoners. And it shouldn't be accepted just because their crimes are worse than those other people committed. (for the record, I do think it's worse than most)

Notcontent · 29/05/2021 22:50

I agree OP. If we agree that no one has the right to physically or mentally harm another human being then we cannot support those things being used as punishment. Prison - yes. A prison where people are abused - no.

NameyNameyNameChangey · 29/05/2021 22:50

HalzTangz maybe you should read that link first.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 29/05/2021 22:54

So this guys not a sex offender then? So this thread is actually about a man who has been qrongly convicted and apparently everyone knows it.
In the case of actual sex offenders, I just could not bring myself to care how often they get beaten up.

Nothingwillcomeofnothing · 29/05/2021 23:00

@TableFlowerss
It’s NONCE
Now outside of normal criminal experience.
