I don't actually think I'm unreasonable though my husband does!

Americans please tell me about your favourite American meal or snack, or even better, both!

A bear claw is a sweet pastry thing, in answer to a PP. I don't think I had one in America but I did have a Lobster Tail from Mike's Pastries in Boston along with quite a few Blush cannoli, filled with this and that.

I also loved Taco Bell, and pancakes with whipped butter and syrup, and a 'Jimmys' (a microwaved sausage patty in a bun) and most of all huge Bubba Gump shrimp with all the little dipping bowls.

I honest to god ADORED American food. I did come back a bit larger than when I left!

Pepperidge Farm Cheesey Goldfish!

I remember having them during trips to the US in my teens.

godmum56 · 28/05/2021 18:55

@LunaAzul

Hidden Valley Ranch. I wish you could buy it over here instead of that Newman's ranch which is the only one I can ever find. I have to make DH stock up on it when he's over there for work.
it costs a bit but if you are jonesing for it? www.amazon.co.uk/s?ref=nb_sb_ss_ts-doa-p_3_13&crid=2530RSHCMW5RF&sprefix=hidden+valley%2Caps%2C152&k=hidden+valley+ranch+dressing&tag=mumsnetforu03-21

Po' Boy sandwiches in New Orleans.

ToastTriangles · 28/05/2021 18:56

Chesters puffcorn and the muffins and pies from perkins

HerRoyalNotness · 28/05/2021 18:56

Buccees brisket rolls (it’s a massive gas station here)
Justin’s peanut butter cups, superior to Reece’s
Sushi burritos
Fish or shrimp taco’s
White Truffle chips from trader joes
Chilli onion crisp - condiment I can put on most things to make them taste better and spicy
Fried oysters

@hermionieweasley

I love Synders Pretzel Pieces could eat sooo many bags
You can get those in the UK. You have to search for them though.
peaceanddove · 28/05/2021 18:59

Oh God, yes the brisket. Does anyone have a fail safe receipt on how to cook it American style?

MissConductUS · 28/05/2021 18:59

Bright orange Italian dressing

It's French dressing that's bright orange here. Italian dressing is oil, vinegar and spices.

You lot really know your American snacks! Smile

HarryBob · 28/05/2021 19:00

Mr Goodbar
Hershey's Gold Bar
Olive Garden Ranch Dressing
Arnold Palmer Half & Half (ice tea/lemonade)
Chips Ahoy Cookies
Any flavour of Mountain Dew - especially the real sugar/throwback one & Code Red
IHOP Butter Pecan Pancake Syrup (I haven't been able to get that here in the UK for ages though Sad)

I'm hungry now

ShinyMe · 28/05/2021 19:01

The two things I always stock up on if I go to the States are 5th Avenue bars (omg gorgeous flaky FLAKY! peanut butter) and peanut butter M&Ms. I like peanut butter chocolate, but can't bear Reece's pieces stuff, too sweet.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 28/05/2021 19:02

One of the THE best bits about the States is their epic Texas BBQ

Oh, yes ... YES!!!
I never knew what all the fuss was about; after all brisket's just a cheap cut in the UK and nothing special

Then I had it in Texas ...

Marguerite2000 · 28/05/2021 19:02

Peanut butter. (fantastic invention)
Doritoes.

MissConductUS · 28/05/2021 19:04

A bear claw is like a danish pastry, usually filled with almond paste and sometimes with raisins.

I like Newman's Ranch dressing better than Hidden Valley.

You can make a brisket in a slow cooker, but it's a bit of time and work. I'd rather just order it when I go out. We have a Tex/Mex place near us that makes a divine brisket taco with pickled vegetables.

katy1213 · 28/05/2021 19:05

Lobster rolls - In McDonald's! Well, it's a cut above filet-o-fish!

Thecaravan · 28/05/2021 19:06

@ShinyMe agree 5th Avenue bars are to die for!

Countrygirl2021 · 28/05/2021 19:07

Chocolate jello. I'm obsessed with it.
Burgers seem to be nicer too.

GyozaPoser · 28/05/2021 19:08

Lobster rolls
Oysters
Steamers (clams)
Butterfinger
Babe Ruth
Goldfish

CaptainHammer · 28/05/2021 19:08

Hershey’s cookies and cream bar. Hate Hershey’s usually but this is lovely.
Synders Pretzel pieces, the caramel ones. I’ve not seen that flavour here yet!
Sweet Baby Rays Honey Mustard sauce
Caramel pretzel pop tarts
Hostess Donettes
Lays
Brookie Oreos

GyozaPoser · 28/05/2021 19:08

I forgot Italian subs! Mmmm. The first time I ordered a sandwich here I was shocked at how little filling there was.

mygenericusername · 28/05/2021 19:10

I miss Proper clam chowder, Biscuits and gravy, red velvet cake and Sunday morning waffles.

I don’t miss the waxy chocolate, horrible milk, fake cheese and rubber bread.

znaika · 28/05/2021 19:10

A proper loaded up Mission burrito... Or biscuits and gravy.
What sounds rank but is sooo good is collard greens, they are all meaty and vinegary and have no idea how they are cooked to get them to taste like that.

HOkieCOkie · 28/05/2021 19:10

@CurryLover55 I love Gerneral Tso chicken, we don’t get it in the Uk and I love it. I also nannied there and I loved it.

RolloTomassi · 28/05/2021 19:11

Twinkies, obvs! And Denny's and Wendy's!

HoldingTheDoor · 28/05/2021 19:11

Synders Pretzel pieces, the caramel ones. I’ve not seen that flavour here yet!

I've had the caramel ones a few times. From Asda and Tesco. Sainsburys might have them too.
