To think William and Kate are currently over exposed

Why do we need to keep seeing them everywhere? The more I see them trying to convey their perfect Boden lives the more I find it irritating. I think their PR people seem to have gone into overdrive

OP posts:
greenandpinkbudgie · 26/05/2021 21:23

They come across as quite humble
They don't to me

Oh ffs give it a rest @CathyorClaire. Your posts are so tediously predictable.

Right back atcha Smile

@greenandpinkbudgie

I wouldn't have called myself a republican before but recent events would make me say yes I am, although complete respect for the Queen.

However, I'm not trying to find fault necessarily, I'm saying the PR is too much in that look at us we're perfect. I'd actually far rather they were more real, that's what I'm getting at.

Not trying to find fault? You clearly are! How would you like them to appear more real on a royal walkabout? What could they do that would make them appear less smug in your opinion? William look like he’s dressed to do the weekly shop, Kate’s wearing a blazer and trainers and they are smiling and being friendly, they have hardly arrived in a glass coach wearing furs and crowns shouting “let them eat cake” are they! Honestly they can’t win, appear on zoom and they are lazy, appear in person they are over exposed, being fake, smug and flaunting their privilege.

ICanSmellSummerComing · 26/05/2021 22:09

I agree op, and I must say after taking the piss of Harry speaking his truth I watched his interview and thought what a nice guy.

Williams always seems clenched and angry, Kate false, that smile, irritating.

Creamdo · 26/05/2021 22:21

I’m a bit bored of seeing Kate’s OTT, lovey smile at her husband just showing how in lurrrrrvvve they are, or that head thrown back, rictus grin of hilarity because something always seems hilarious.

I agree

Dotoallasyouwouldbedoneby · 26/05/2021 22:29

@greenandpinkbudgie

Well they’ve got twice as much to do now haven’t they? Since the other two buggered off.

Have they? They literally visited their old University that's hardly a national emergency

I think their attending St Andrews 20 years ago has vastly contributed to its popularity as a University. I am sure the University is grateful for the visits. Covid may have caused international student applications to have declined a bit. As others said they are 'working' and helping morale. When younger I didn't value the role of monarchy at all but as I've aged, I can see it is a better option (if you already happen to have this system) than relying on politicians (who certainly do not improve with length of exposure) as a Head of State.
KFleming · 26/05/2021 22:38

I don't read the tabloids. Do see them on news websites though.

I know they’ve been in Scotland and that’s been reported on, but if I look at the bbc news app right now, none of the stories on the front page are about them, same for sky news website. Cant see them on the guardian website, daily mail does have an article but the main stories are all Dominic Cummings.

I don’t think that’s exactly over-exposed.

ICanSmellSummerComing · 26/05/2021 22:39

What do they represent though? An institutions that's driving people crazy?

At least if Harry and m did a walk about we know more about who they are and what they have suffered and their truth.

Kate and William on the other hand seem pompous now, I agree its such a hard role, they are trapped and can't really win, it's not necessarily their fault but I even see Charles as more relatable than Kate.

And even camila.

Also totally shallow but please can William switch up the awful clothes, he's embarrassing!

Creamdo · 26/05/2021 22:44

*I even see Charles as more relatable than Kate.

And even camila.*

I agree with this as well.

StoneofDestiny · 26/05/2021 22:50

I wish the whole institution was shut down - it's ridiculous that an over privileged set of multi millionaires who expect people to bow and scrape to them are even in existence in the 21st Century.

misspattylacosta · 26/05/2021 23:18

They HAVE to be over-exposed.

They do so very little that their PR has to go overboard to make it look like they are so busy, useful and inspirational.

The one time they should have been on show, boosting moral and doing something for the country was the pandemic! They have chosen not to and prove how useless they really are, and how the rules for the common serf don't apply to them. It's a very weird decision if you think about it.

Now we are nearly back to normal there will be more photos opportunities, more deal and "paps" taking "candid" photos of Pippa shopping or cheering a charity in exchange for privacy when they can all finally bugger off to Mustique and the royals be kept out of the press.

misspattylacosta · 26/05/2021 23:19

Expect also a few more "candid" pics of the kids to bring their rating up.

AIMummy · 26/05/2021 23:45

I would far rather see some pictures of a happy family at a time when the news is so bleak, than see a mean-spirited bad-tempered thread like this. Why don't you go and enjoy what you have, as they are clearly doing? And if you don't have what they have (as 99.9% of us don't, it's true), you are certainly not making yourself feel any better doing this.

As you probably realise and are being disingenuous not to acknowledge, many people love seeing what Kate is wearing and seeing their kids grow up. It brings some people pleasure. I expect you despise such folk but they exist. That is more significant, IMO, than your aggravation as you can just scroll on by unless you occupy yourself with your grievances as a hobby...which seems like a distinct possibility.

amusedtodeath1 · 27/05/2021 00:27

It is very much a PR war right now. The RF won't respond publicly to H&Ms claims, their policy is very much ignore and carry on, but obviously PR people are doing their thing.

As far as PR goes I think W&K people are very subtle.

If you were to compare W&K exposure to H&M then, W&K are less exposed right now.

I think it depends on who your sympathies lay with. If you believe H&M then K&W will annoy you and visa versa.

Personally I like W&Ks approach to publicity.

CatNameChange101 · 27/05/2021 00:43

You sound like the SNP supporters I see around. Heaven forbid the fulfil their public duties IN SCOTLAND.

misspattylacosta · 27/05/2021 01:09

namechangingforthis19586

If they were private citizen, people could worship them for all I care. People can find photo of any celebrity cheerful if they like, that's fine.

The issue is having a royal family and a Monarchy in 2021. It's wrong on so many level. If the best use you can find is people looking at their photos, we have enough celebs for that! Once the Queen is gone, at the very least we need a referendum.

TotorosCatBus · 27/05/2021 01:39

I suspect that the amount of PR is the same as it was pre-pandemic but we've been so used to pandemic Royal visits via zoom that it seems OTT.

I read on another thread that if you add up the gigs that W&K do, it averages out as a very part-time job so once this visit to Scotland is over things should calm down a bit (well, until
Diana's 60th birthday events)

TheGlassBlowersDaughter · 27/05/2021 01:41

@SoupDragon

I wish people would stop posting poorly disguised bitching threads about them.
Yy the usual suspects pop up to criticise them regardless of what they do. They can't win. If they're not visible, they get criticised for not doing enough. If they are visible, they get criticised for doing their jobs. 🙄 It's as though critics like the OP hadn't realised we had a RF till now. There's always publicity about their engagements especially when they are on a mini-tour which they are atm in Scotland. Now let me dig out my usual posters bingo card. It's the only fun these repetitive threads provide.
Torvean · 27/05/2021 03:07

They're only pictured as they've been in Scotland attending various functions. Yesterday they went to the opening of a new hospital in Orkney. They are photographed while doing their duty.

Unlike Harry who is using every opportunity to be on TV.

FangsForTheMemory · 27/05/2021 04:19

If you think they’re overexposed, why did you start a thread about them? You’re part of the problem.

GreenWheat · 27/05/2021 04:26

Oh yawn.....

TheoMeo · 27/05/2021 04:28

omg 'the Scottish people' - I'm so relieved you know what the Scottish People want- you and Nicola. I mean I'm just a thick Scottish numpty, but that's not a xxxxxx problem because people like you and Nicola know what I want.
So xxxxxxxxxxxx patronising.

NameChangeNameShange · 27/05/2021 04:39

But isn't this the first royal tour since Covid and lock downs plus the funeral? So of course there's lots of coverage.

The Queen started face to face duties a couple of days after the funeral and that kicks off the rest of them to do the same. It also coincides with lockdowns coming to an end, frankly I'd have been more surprised if they didn't do a tour/lots of face to face stuff this week.

I'd bet as soon as the May dates were announced they started planning one. And not surprisingly in Scotland, given the whole grumbling about 2nd referendums. It's a bit of a no brainier.
