To think William and Kate are currently over exposed

Why do we need to keep seeing them everywhere? The more I see them trying to convey their perfect Boden lives the more I find it irritating. I think their PR people seem to have gone into overdrive

They're popular w the part of the public that likes this sort of schtick and the RF are desperate to regain some credibility before too many people realise that we've been doing pretty well without them for a year...

RickiTarr · 26/05/2021 21:04

@greenandpinkbudgie

I was aware of their trip to Scotland, which I read was to save the union, which I thought was pretty patronising to Scottish people really and unlikely to succeed
It obviously works on some people, judging by the number of gormless, forelock tugging numpties who are always willing to come out and grin inanely at them and give them flowers. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Just don’t watch it. I agree it’s embarrassing and cringeworthy but you’re winding yourself up if you look at it on purpose.

greenandpinkbudgie · 26/05/2021 21:04

I wouldn't have called myself a republican before but recent events would make me say yes I am, although complete respect for the Queen.

However, I'm not trying to find fault necessarily, I'm saying the PR is too much in that look at us we're perfect. I'd actually far rather they were more real, that's what I'm getting at.

I can’t see what they’re doing that the BRF haven’t always done, but then I don’t want to click on those stories to look more closely. Isn’t this just the usual royal stuff? It does per me off when it makes the television news, though.

Xiaoxiong · 26/05/2021 21:06

Lack of acknowledgment of their immense privilege

And how would you want them to do that on their trip round Scotland this week? Beat their breasts on the steps of St Andrews and howl about how privileged they are and how they don't deserve it? Pull the other one. The whole point of modern royals is that they show up to open a new hospital wing in Nuneaton on a wet Wednesday afternoon, make a speech about the wonderful people who work there, shake a few hands and listen to people, then off they go to the next engagement - they shouldn't inject their personal feelings into their jobs, beyond the most basic good manners. When they talk too much about their positions or their privilege people either switch off or actively recoil - see Harry & Megan, ad nauseam.

greenandpinkbudgie · 26/05/2021 21:09

To be fair, even if it was someone on Facebook doing today's aren't we in love visiting our old Uni pictures I'd find that irritating. I know they care about mental health issues, and yet I do think they portray themselves as perfect and at the moment I wonder who's in the mood for it all

What would they have to do to convince you they’re real?

miafeta · 26/05/2021 21:10

I don’t know where you see them. I keep seeing Harry everywhere

CathyorClaire · 26/05/2021 21:13

I'm just glad someone's doing that job well, I'd hate it and so would most people I think!

Chauffeured out by luxury limo from a choice of palaces to cut a ribbon, shake a few carefully chosen hands, maybe make a speech about something someone else has researched for you then chauffeured home by luxury limo to relax for another couple of weeks?

Yep. Hideous life.

Staffy1 · 26/05/2021 21:13

I don't think they have a lack of acknowledgement of their privilege. They come across as quite humble and genuinely interested in people. Kate has always had a big, over the top smile, it seems to run in her family but I think it's quite charming and they do seem to have a good relationship. At least that's how it appears to me.

Chloemol · 26/05/2021 21:13

I am not seeing lots of them

CallmeHendricks · 26/05/2021 21:14

What an unpleasant thread. In what way are they "smug?" I don't see that at all. They're doing their jobs.
If they aren't seen out and about, people accuse them of being lazy fuckers (as has already happened on this thread), and now Lockdown has eased and they're back on the road, you say they're over-exposed.
They can't win.

Chloemol · 26/05/2021 21:15

@CathyorClaire

And you comment just shows you don’t have a clue what they do, or the work they have to put in before visits

They don’t just rock up

Sadsiblingatsea · 26/05/2021 21:15

Tear yourselves away from the tabloids OP.

Hi, Wills.

I think that might just be how people look when they are wealthy, healthy, with no worries. I’m not sure they’re putting it on.

Irritating for the rest of us, but what can you do? Smile

Blossomtoes · 26/05/2021 21:18

Oh ffs give it a rest @CathyorClaire. Your posts are so tediously predictable.

Having to be constantly perfectly turned out, having your every move scrutinised, having to always be polite and not being able to respond to false information and unpleasant stuff written about you. Not having the freedom to jus to pop out somewhere when you feel like it. Yes, it does sound hideous, I certainly wouldn't like it.
Backstreetsbackalrightdadada · 26/05/2021 21:19

Not a royalist but didn’t people complain they didn’t do enough? And then when you see them you don’t like it? So...

Paquerette · 26/05/2021 21:19

@Xiaoxiong

Jesus even on here they can't win. If they do their jobs visibly they're overexposed, if they don't have media coverage people think they're sitting around doing FA. Bet they wish their jobs had clear performance KPIs!

I'm just glad someone's doing that job well, I'd hate it and so would most people I think!

I agree.

Most of the engagements that the royal family do aren't usually in the national newspapers. Pre covid William and Kate did a few visits to my area that were only in the local papers. It's the media choosing to do articles, not that they're choosing to do more work.

LuvMyBubbles · 26/05/2021 21:19

Just off to work, no one else around to do it?

Ssh. It’s good for MN bingo. 😉
WhiskyIrnBru · 26/05/2021 21:20

@Xiaoxiong

I was just thinking reading the times this evening, with yet another story about Harry (this time making a series with Oprah apparently) that I haven't heard anything about them recently bar Prince William's statement on the Diana/Bashir interview.
I agree OP but this is MN and it appears to be full of loyal Will and Kate lovers who can't seem to see the blatant PR onslaught Wink

Yes you're right. I did click on it.

Whatever the wayward bro might tell you none of them are chained to it. They're all free to walk any time they like.

Mostly they don't.
