to not cover my bruises?

PyongyangKipperbang · 24/05/2021 22:56

I collapsed yesterday due to v low blood sugar and was taken to hospital, I am not diabetic but I hadnt eaten properly as I have an ED (yes, I have accepted that I need help with this and am looking into the best type of help for my issues).

Thing is, I was by the back door, went down like a tree (I am told, I dont remember a thing) and face planted onto the patio. I now look like I have been whacked in the face with a frying a la Tom and Jerry! I am leaving them as they are, as I tried hiding them and frankly I think they look more obvious when I try to hide them. I have a swollen nose that I was lucky nt to break and a massive black eye. Not easy to hide.

My mother (and my boss, who didnt say anything but I can just tell) think that I should cover them up. I know my mother thinks people will think I was either a) fighting or b) drunk :o

I think its healthier to keep them uncovered as there was some broken skin. I am happy to tell anyone what happened who asks and my boss has seen my discharge notes so knows I am not lying about what happened so whats the problem?

Is your job customer facing?

UhtredRagnarson · 24/05/2021 23:07

YANBU you don’t owe anyone a pretty face Wink

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 24/05/2021 23:07

Don't cover them up!

I bruise super easily, as in I slip and fall lightly on the stairs and I have a huge purple bruise the next day. I never cover up, if anyone asks I just tell them I had a fight with a staircase.

TheMatryoshka · 24/05/2021 23:13

Who the fuck is voting yabu? I'm sorry you got hurt, you absolutely don't need to be trying to cover the bruises. Jesus, would anyone expect a bloke to do it?

PyongyangKipperbang · 24/05/2021 23:21

I work in a supermarket if that is relevant.

I mean if you’re injured, you’re injured. There’s nothing much you can do but tbh, it does give a certain impression. A lady in Costa served me with a huge black eye once, and I couldn’t help but feel worried about her as my first thought was possible domestic violence. She could have just had an innocent accident of course

Thunderpants5138 · 24/05/2021 23:28

If you'd broken your arm you wouldn't not wear a cast. So don't cover up if you don't want to!!

EarlLeighIndamornin · 24/05/2021 23:35

I thought you ran a bar?

skybluee · 25/05/2021 00:11

I'd be concerned it could interfere with healing and you'll have to get it wet every day to take the make-up off. If it was just a bruise OK, but as there's broken skin I wouldn't put make-up on it.

It's not really anyone else's business. It was an accident.

PyongyangKipperbang · 25/05/2021 00:19

It wasnt a bar, it was a pub restaurant and I got made redundant in October thanks to Covid. Top marks for memory though!

You can’t read your bosses mind. You are projecting.

I had an eye op once and looked like Mike Tyson had clocked me one. It was so enlightening the way people responded to me. It was far too black to cover up so I just left it. I actually got chatted up far more than usual which was horrifying.

I was in my 20s, quite waify looking too. Of course a certain type of man is attracted to that.

fallfallfall · 25/05/2021 01:55

i don't think it's appropriate to go into work looking like your face has recently been bashed in.
like it or not the attention is on you not the customer.
different if your in the warehouse organizing or bookkeeping in a back room.
stay home and take care of yourself

On a thread about the dreaded OnlyFans mainly porn site, someone mentions a woman getting a lot of attention after posting photo's after being badly bruised in an accident.

OP, you don't need to cover them up. Do what you feel most comfortable with. Wishing you all the best Flowers

Lesssaideasymended · 25/05/2021 02:08

Would it not be very tender to be applying makeup on? Also not advisable to apply to broken skin. I’m sorry OP, wishing you a speedy recovery

Also covering up bruises correctly requires colour correction first to neutralise the discolouration. Most normal makeup won’t cut it, as you have seen

AtoZed · 25/05/2021 02:13

Surely you'll be on sick leave until the bruising goes? Confused

Redsquirrel5 · 25/05/2021 02:26

I tripped fell and fractured one wrist and tore tendons in the other both gave way and I face planted into the pavement breaking nose and cheek was bleeding and nose. My boss said I wasn’t to go to work with one arm in a cast and one in a splint. When I did go back Dr had had to rebreak and realigned nose so I had lots of bruising. I went to work .

I agree putting make up on can irritate the skin. Witch hazel helps and is soothing. I hope you feel better soon.

I am perfectly able to do my job with bruises, why would I be on sick leave?

12 years with an abuser has left me an expert at hiding bruises, however the bruises he gave me were never a broken nose or a black inner eye, turns out that they are harder to hide.

A bit attention seeking maybe...

me4real · 25/05/2021 02:38

I would make some excuse if people asked about the bruises though, I wouldn't spill my private issues to everyone (I have an ED too.)

Embracingthechaos · 25/05/2021 02:52

If there's broken skin then I definitely wouldn't be putting make up on. Make up doesn't work well on broken skin anyway.

Maggiesfarm · 25/05/2021 02:53

I didn't know ED caused people to not eat, ie lose appetite.

I'm so sorry you fainted and hurt yourself, also that your ex relationship was abusive (maybe that has something to do with your current ED problem).

It might be better in future if you make sure you eat something even if your appetite is diminished. I 'get' that ED is worrying, are you being investigated for it?

You say you work in a supermarket now, it may not matter if your face is bruised if you work behind the scenes. Swelling will go down fairly quickly and the bruises will fade, I hope it isn't too sore now.

1forAll74 · 25/05/2021 02:55

Injury bruises always look worse if you try and cover them up..

I had a bad fall down the stairs a few years ago,so had two black eyes that changed into various colours after a few days, I had a swollen and bruised cheek, and a big lump on my forehead. I just left things as they were, with no covering up.
