To think Harry/Meghan are coming out of this worse than the Royal Family?

The problems the royals claim to have would be wiped away if there were no Royal Family. No need to worry about security, no concern about how to fill all the empty rooms in the many Palaces, no worry about Andrew being questioned by the FBI (he'd have been grilled by now if not 'protected' under Royal privilege), no worry about 'who cuts the ribbon on what' pretending it's a real job, no worry about what tiara to wear or what they can/can't should/shouldn't say to the media.

We could disband the whole farce, they could live off their countless billions and fight amongst themselves. They could live wherever they want, buy their own burglar alarms for security and pay for their own weddings and funerals.

This taxpayer funded nonsense for the idle rich really needs to stop.

amusedtodeath1 · 23/05/2021 18:40

The private jet thing was particularly tone deaf tbh.

amusedtodeath1 · 23/05/2021 18:44

Can you imagine how the Queen feels right now...poor woman.

SueSaid · 23/05/2021 18:48

'Can you accept that some people just think she's a hypocrite with no self-awareness rather than "absolutely despise" her? Why the hyperbole? You're not on Oprah.'

It's all part of the persecution complex. They are both victims who are bullied you see. Or, more accurately they are both hypocrites who had a strop when they didn't get their own way and are lashing out at his family, which makes a mockery of their #LoveAlwaysWins guff.

Cinclus · 23/05/2021 18:48

There were also moments when it looked like they were trying to divert attention away from other royals' activities or having a little pop at William and Kate, we won't be having more than two children because of the environment / not going on the cover of Vogue because it would be boastful when Kate had done it etc.

The tone deaf “Nobody asks me if I’m OK” against a backdrop of poverty made a lot of people ask Wtf? It all seemed to go downhill from there

She did no different from every other royal - only when Philip went to these places, any places, he insulted the people with his racist and inappropriate comments. Can you imagine if H&M did that, don't think they would have been indulged as he was.

Only recently Kate told us how she was 'struggling' with childcare in lockdown - she, with a stay at home husband, two nannies, domestics, cooks, chauffeurs, cleaners, secretaries, dressers etc etc

The royals are clueless what it's like for everyday people struggling on budgets, losing their job, living in sink estates, on NHS waiting lists, inadequate schooling etc...........it's vomit inducing they act as if they know. They only ever get to meet flag waving sycophants or selected individuals for short times on their 'tours'. And all these people are expected to bow and curtesy to them!

It's no wonder they come across as patronising

amusedtodeath1 · 23/05/2021 18:54

When the other Royals fuck up they get just as much criticism, the difference is they listen and learn, not rail against the "Firm" for allowing people to criticize them

EsmaCannonball · 23/05/2021 18:54

Harry and Meghan annoy people because they are emblematic of a very modern form of celebrity; fame that isn't based on talent or career. He's famous purely because of an accident of birth and she was an actress who was hurtling towards her forties with only one role of any note under her belt and who was more interested in merchandising than acting, and yet they are aiming for a global celebrity and billionaire status that normally comes from achieving something significant. Barack Obama, J.K. Rowling, Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, Tom Hanks and others at that level are all standing on a body of work. Harry and Meghan are standing on tacky, soul-selling grievance interviews, and trying to tell us it's all for our benefit instead of their bank balance.

The royal family are also annoying but I don't want to write an essay. Interestingly, Harry is making it personal rather than questioning the very notion of unearned wealth and position. I guess he doesn't want to draw too much attention to the idea of meritocracy in case people start thinking why on earth they're listening to this fuckwit.

Blossomtoes · 23/05/2021 18:55

She did no different from every other royal

She did. It was very different. The only valid comparison was Kate’s “exhausting” and she was between a rock and a hard place. If she’d said something up beat and positive the reaction would have been “It’s all right for you”. She tried to be empathetic and was torn to shreds for that. She really couldn’t win.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 23/05/2021 18:56

Perhaps if Oprah had pushed back it would have seemed like an interview. Instead it seemed like a PR push

As I've said before, if Oprah hadn't accepted the "PR push" - or, god forbid, insisted on asking awkward questions - she probably wouldn't have got the interview at all

Faced with a plum like that, it's not hard to see why she'd trash any principles and just accept the narrative and the money

Gucci1961 · 23/05/2021 18:57

I agree it's OTT to say that you ''despise'' Meghan if you noticed that different things she's said contradict each other. I must like her on one level because I'm rooting for her to help herself come across better. Or maybe it's all just a bit tedious.

amusedtodeath1 · 23/05/2021 18:57

They don't claim it to be a conspiracy, they don't blame the media for reporting it. They don't speak about it other than a carefully worded statement.

Writing messages on bananas at women's shelter, populated by many workers.

I have no doubt it wasn't malicious, it's was just dumb as f**k. On what planet was that ever going to be reported in a positive light? Either they ignored their press advisers or they're so self-absorbed they're incapable of seeing the bigger picture.

I think this event along with the 'Megan gets what Megan wants' comments were the undoing of them.

NobodyPuttsBabyinCorner · 23/05/2021 18:59

Populated by sex workers...

Doris86 · 23/05/2021 19:01

@Bluntness100

Is this a serious comment?

Of course? We all know most royals have two types of security, private and met police, there was no need for Archie to have seperate met officers and if he ever went anywhere the adult who took him had the security. When he got older he would have had private security, paid foe my Charles, just like Meghan and Harry’s was.

So you think children in the royal family only ever go anywhere accompanied by adults of the royal family (and therefore their security)? Ever heard of Nannies?
amusedtodeath1 · 23/05/2021 19:02

I'd forgotten about the banana thing, yeah....it was awkward.

amusedtodeath1 · 23/05/2021 19:04

As I explained earlier Doris none of the great grandchildren (except Williams) get security, their parents are expected to pay for it out of their allowances.

I actually meant that when he left the Army reached the limit of his capabilities(?) he had Royal Duties readily lined up!
TrishM80 · 23/05/2021 19:08

Yes. Even if Harry and Meghan have legitimate gripes, people don't like it when you wash your dirty family linen in public. And they especially don't like it when it's the Royal Family.

IrmaFayLear · 23/05/2021 19:10

I couldn’t care less about any of the faux pas - anyone would make clumsy etiquette errors upon joining the royal family.

It was the Sussex Royal thing which made me not dislike them, but think they were cheeky buggers. I had swallowed the line that they wanted to find privacy and “freedom” but oh, no. They were plotting away trying to form some sort of rival court financed by you and me.

And as for the Oprah interview. It’s just was all about the money. Revelations for cash.

There aren’t any exams for promotion for officers. They’re promoted on the recommendation of their commanding officers. He’d definitely have made major, probably lieutenant colonel and possibly colonel. That could have been where he stuck but there was easily another decade in his career.

That’s not true , they gave to go to Staff College and pass exams to get to the next level. It’s not for every level but there is a limit to how far you can go.

Doris86 · 23/05/2021 19:12

@amusedtodeath1

My comment only referred to the need for the children to have separate security officers, not who should pay for it.
