Menopause / or Did your periods change after Covid vaccine?

I'm 51 and last had a period more than 2 years ago. After my Covid vaccine in Feb, my periods 'started again'.

It looks like there are quite a few post-menopausal women who have had the same, and some non-menopausal women who've had their menstrual cycles go awry.

If this applies to you, please do contact your GP for advise and/or to register your experience.

It's not necessarily a problem, but women do
Often accept situations that could do with being explored in more detail, so please do make your experience count if you can.

Mine came a whole week early - I am certain of my dates as I track them on an app. My cycle is always 27-28 days, usually. This time it was 20, 1 week after I had the AZ vaccine. It was incredibly heavy, too. Super plus tampons only lasting an hour for the first 2 days.

I know it's not the point of the thread but menorrhagia is so debilitating for women and it really bothers me it's not taken seriously, regardless of whether it's vaccine related or not. Apart from the obvious issues of anaemia and associated symptoms there's the sheer inconvenience, I couldn't tell you how many times I've flooded at work. Many women will have to take time off work, no doubt often unpaid.
Women are always screwed over when it comes to health care. Zero recognition of menopausal ailments in the workplace.

@Workinghardeveryday

I don’t get painful pre period boobs, but oh my word!!! They are so tender, have to be careful moving in case my arm brushes them. This is my second period I think after second jab. First time in years I was late after first one and they have been all over since.
I'm the same! I've had my 1st vaccine, period 10 days late and boob sore and swollen to the point I thought I was pregnant and couldn't believe the tests were coming up negative, as the only other time my boobs have been that sore I was pregnant. Thank goodness I'm not, but its certainly put the fear of God in me and triggered me to follow up on DHs vasectomy referral!
TaraR2020 · 22/05/2021 16:40

Lots of unvaccinated women are also experiencing this just by being around people who are already vaccinated.

Oh come on! 🙄

DinosApple · 22/05/2021 16:47

I've had both AZ jabs. My period was a bit earlier and much lighter after both jabs. The periods in between were normal though.

Twitchynose · 22/05/2021 16:55

Made absolutely no difference to mine

JimBobNoJob · 22/05/2021 17:15

I’m most definitely peri and period went awol about 9 weeks ago my cycles are all over the place. I had vaccine 3 weeks ago, still no period. But my pmt/peri symptoms have been awful since my vaccine.
Normally I would get symptoms (If at all) when the missing period is due but disappear shortly after At the moment it seems to be all the bloody time.

So I can’t say whether the vaccine has had an effect or I would’ve been like this anyway!

Cyderdelic · 22/05/2021 17:15

Only had 1st AZ one so far. Age 46 but still regular as clockwork. Was 8 days late after jab, super PMT which I dont usualy get bad. Anger which others have mentioned, and that preg head you get in late pregnancy where I turned into a total airhead to the point it felt a bit dangerous going out on my own. My DP noticed and found it incredibly amusing as im normally really sharp, focused and articulate. I was forgetting words, couldnt work out why the car doors werent locking (was turning the key the wrong way!) luckily that only lasted a week or 2.
Next cycle was 10 days later, with incredibly sore boobs from the end of the very late cycle to the start of the very early one. Have reported it all on yellow card, shall be interesting to see what happens if anything after the next jab in a couple of weeks.

therocinante · 22/05/2021 17:26

@FluWorldOrder

I’ve read literally thousands of accounts of this happening, including women in their 70s having bleeds, so you’re definitely not alone. Lots of unvaccinated women are also experiencing this just by being around people who are already vaccinated.
They haven't though, have they? Not a single ingredient in the vaccines makes you emit reproductive-system-altering lasers (or more sensibly, hormones/gases/whatever) to people nearby.

Hello ladies. Reposting the link by Daysee on page 4 of this thread so it's connected to what I'm about to write:

TaraR2020 · 22/05/2021 18:59

@therocinante tbf if the any the vaccines made women inclined to emit lasers there'd probably be greater uptake!

onlyjustme · 22/05/2021 20:12

This is really interesting...
I have mirena too and rarely bleed but I have recently had a couple of "periods"... Back ache, tired, a bit grumpy... then oh hello! First jab was end of March, "period" must have been shortly after. Have just pulled jab number 2 forward to Wednesday and have recently finished a "period".
Will yellow-card it now.

canyon2000 · 22/05/2021 20:13

The vaccination made no difference at all to my period.

carlywurly · 22/05/2021 20:51

I'm very pro vaccination but if they're going to insist that this doesn't impact fertility, I think the potential for disruption to menstrual cycle needs to be at least acknowledged now we're on to vaccinating people in their early 30s.

I just think women need to be able to make as informed a choice as possible given their personal circumstances. If you were going through fertility treatment, this could be a real issue, not just an inconvenience.

WeAllHaveWings · 22/05/2021 23:26

11 day period ended over night 🎉

2nd dose in 10 days 🤦🏻‍♀️. It won't put me off getting it.

DontDrinkDontSmokeWhatDoIDo · 22/05/2021 23:35

@carlywurly

You are 100% right.

There must be a lot of experiential evidence collected now. If I was in my 30s and planning to try for a baby, i would definitely want to know this.

Sunbird24 · 23/05/2021 00:55

I’m in my early 40s and going through fertility treatment, had the jab a month after my most recent miscarriage, so if my. Uncle doesn’t get back on track sharpish it either delays my next attempt or I have to pay extra for drugs to make it happen. At least the ladies in their 30s have a bit more time on their side 🤷🏻‍♀️

Sunbird24 · 23/05/2021 00:56

Oh FFS, my cycle not my uncle!! I don’t even have any of those!

Delphinium20 · 23/05/2021 01:04

I almost don't want to post this and add to any speculation, but I'm week 3 of the heaviest period of my life. I knew I started peri menopause about a year and half ago, with longer times between periods and heavier flow...but this one is like a murder scene every hour in my bathroom! I had the vaccine a month 1/2 ago.

GreenSeaGlass · 23/05/2021 07:42

Early 40s, 2nd Pfizer jab in March. It disrupted my cycle and I’ve also had v heavy flow and passed huge clots in my periods since the jab. I’ll report it via yellow card.

DontDrinkDontSmokeWhatDoIDo · 23/05/2021 09:15

Thanks for sharing your experiences, everyone.

Would be great if the #DailyMail would pick up on this thread - what are the odds?

OP posts:
BlatantlyNameChanged · 23/05/2021 09:33

The Daily Mail are scum, I'll ask for my comments on the thread to be deleted if they pick it up regardless of the subject of the article.

VodkaSlimline · 23/05/2021 09:40

It was already in the Daily Mail, weeks ago.

I've had the AZ vaccine and it had no effect on my periods whatsoever.

unsure111 · 23/05/2021 09:46

My periods are normally heavy for the first few days and have terrible cramps. Since having the vaccine they've been really light and only lasted 3 days and didn't even have to wear a pad it was that light. Hardly any cramps but still really sore boobs. I'm actually really worried about it because I'm still young and they've never been like this.

crankysaurus · 23/05/2021 09:50

Zero change here but then I'm one of the lucky bastards who it had no effect on.

Very glad the effects on women's health are being raised though!
