Menopause / or Did your periods change after Covid vaccine?

DontDrinkDontSmokeWhatDoIDo · 21/05/2021 22:20

I'm 51 and last had a period more than 2 years ago. After my Covid vaccine in Feb, my periods 'started again'.

It looks like there are quite a few post-menopausal women who have had the same, and some non-menopausal women who've had their menstrual cycles go awry.

If this applies to you, please do contact your GP for advise and/or to register your experience.

It's not necessarily a problem, but women do
Often accept situations that could do with being explored in more detail, so please do make your experience count if you can.

No change here!

DontDrinkDontSmokeWhatDoIDo · 21/05/2021 23:25

@BlatantlyNameChanged - pretty much my grasp, too.

I last had a period aged 49 in January 2019.

Had the AZ vaccine in Feb 2021, and had quite a bad reaction to it.

Then I had PMT symptoms in March 2021

  • followed by days of ultra, ultra heavy bleeding with flooding & clots.

Ultrasound scan found nothing to worry about, thank goodness.

Second AZ jab followed by less heavy period 2 weeks later.

First Pfizer mine was so heavy and full of clots
Had 2nd Pfizer last week and I'm on day 10 of bleeding I've never have a period last this long in my life I also have really sore boobs. I'm 37

DontDrinkDontSmokeWhatDoIDo · 21/05/2021 23:26

@BarbarianMum

Nope exactly the opposite. Covid set me skipping periods and the vaccine seems to have stopped them altogether. Now eligible for hrt Smile

Brilliant. Bloody periods can naff off when no longer needed!!

Mine disappeared completely and I’ve had peri menopausal mood swings.

WeAllHaveWings · 21/05/2021 23:28

Im 52 and over the last year my periods have been only for 2-3 days and every 2-3 months. I am currently on day 11 of my period (only the 2nd period I've had this year), never had one even 1/2 this long before, assumed it was just another crazy menopause thing. Not heavy, just shows no sign of stopping yet..

WaverleyPirate · 21/05/2021 23:31

No period since 2017. So post menopausal.

After first vaccine I suddenly had return of period and associated symptoms such as sore breasts. Really weird.

Rabbitheadlights · 21/05/2021 23:31

Just to add, if anyone is due a smear please make an appt. I'm due one infact well overdue and have it booked in next week.

Please do make sure you feedback via the Yellow Card link posted by a PP earlier, and also get the bleeding checked out too.

@WaverleyPirate - I think I saw you had on another thread ? X )

WaverleyPirate · 21/05/2021 23:41

I've reported via the yellow card scheme already.

Wasn't sure about bothering GP as it was definitely a period with all associated symptoms and has gone away.

WeAllHaveWings · 21/05/2021 23:47

Just reported now @DontDrinkDontSmokeWhatDoIDo. They asked about other meds, anyone else take blood pressure meds? Just wondering if related.

Same as @WaverleyPirate, got the typical period symptoms too, achy boobs, slight cramps, so not really concerned, will do if they continue after weekend.

shazshaz · 21/05/2021 23:49

My period was 3 months late after I had suspected covid at the beginning of lockdown 1. My period was due when I had my first vaccine & 3 months later it still hasn't arrived. Due my 2nd vaccine in 2 weeks so it will be interesting to see what happens.

WaverleyPirate · 21/05/2021 23:50

I'm not on any meds at all so probably not related.

DontDrinkDontSmokeWhatDoIDo · 21/05/2021 23:51

I know they advise ANY post-menopausal bleeding to be checked out, and within an ultra-quick timeframe, so my thought is to get that done.

As women, I think we are quite conditioned to think 'well, it's because of XYZ, I just have to get on with it '

Getting irregular bleeding checked out, even to build up a true picture for medical professionals, seems like a wise move maybe?

I'll give the doctor a call on Monday. You are quite right. So used to worrying about everyone else I brushed it under the 'vaccine side effect' carpet.

ChaToilLeam · 22/05/2021 00:00

I’m 50 and had the Astra Zeneca 1st dose a week ago. Perimenopausal and periods have been irregular and scant for the last year. Day after vaccine, the PERIOD FROM HELL began. Flooding, intense cramping, one week on it’s still going strong. Even with doubled sanpro I leaked through clothing. I have no doubt the vaccine set it off. Better that than Covid but it isn’t much fun.

TheMoth · 22/05/2021 00:05

I thought a lot of women's periods had gone haywire due to lockdown.
I could blame covid itself for mine (January) or perimenopause. Or vaccine ( last week)Who knows?

Dullardmullard · 22/05/2021 00:05

I posted in menopause bit as mine stopped 2.5 years ago then 8 days of hell. I had jab in March 12 weeks get period just prior to second one.

GP didn’t mention it being related to Covid at all and referred me straight away. Hospital appointment end of the month.

For folks that haven’t had a period for over a year need checked out in case of any nasties as it might not be related to Covid vaccines

DontDrinkDontSmokeWhatDoIDo · 22/05/2021 00:09

@WaverleyPirate 🙏🙏🙏
I'm sure it's nothing but way better to get that confirmed xxxx

Pinkylemons · 22/05/2021 00:10

I’m post menopause, about 3 years. I’ve had both jobs and thankfully nothing has happened.

What a worry though. If it can mess with your hormones and/or cycle. So glad I’m past the age for having children!

Pinkylemons · 22/05/2021 00:13

On a menopause page I post on it seems some GP’s won’t prescribe HRT to women post menopause!
Rabbitheadlights · 22/05/2021 00:16

@pinkylemons this where I'm at, have been told another child will kill me, history of DVT and pulmonary embolism, mother died of a stroke at a young age, not allowed traditional contraceptives ... Was such a worry when my cycle went haywire.

Sunbird24 · 22/05/2021 00:39

I had a miscarriage Easter weekend, but ovulated a couple of weeks later and AF turned up bang on time. I had my first covid jab (AZ) on CD5 and so far I’m a week late ovulating and not even a hint of an increase in LH. I don’t know which has caused the issue but I’ve yellow carded it anyway and just added in the extra info.

fibeee · 22/05/2021 00:45

I’m not menopausal but 2 weeks after my Pfizer jab I’m having much worse cramps than normal and spotting rather than an actual period.

Fuckitsstillraining · 22/05/2021 01:27

I really hope mine don't start again, I'm 9 months since last one and they were erratic for at least a year before that and I only managed to get my gp to prescribe hrt two weeks ago after months of arguing with her. She doesn't agree with it and would use any reason possible to quit prescribing it.
