I HATE my wedding dress

xela21 · 19/05/2021 16:38

I'm getting married next month, my dress has arrived and I hate it. I need to find a new one and fast. Please help?

I have toyed with the idea of non-white dresses, at this rate I'm open to anything. Ideally wanted a midi length pale dress that doesn't look like a bridesmaid dress (The one I have bought is blush and floaty and bridesmaidy). :( :(

I wish we could shop for wedding dresses all the time!
@rosegoldwatcher Yes I do, I will be making a trip ASAP. In fact, I might phone up tomorrow morning to ask if they have any of the dresses in stock (any colour) just to try.

I have just spotted this: www.houseoffraser.co.uk/brand/adrianna-papell/adrianna-papell-glitter-knit-gown-662518#colcode=66251810

Is this too evening-y and not wedding enough?
I'm warming to gold more than silver I think...
I've absolutely fallen for the silver Ghost one for you, but I have to say, if you've decided you prefer gold, this latest one is gorgeous, also. About the not wedding enough, what are you planning to do with your hair? I take it you won't be wearing a veil, which would immediately ensure everyone not in your party would know you were the bride?! As pp have mentioned, what you do to your hair, and your accessories and make-up, will make a great difference to the bridal feel of your dress.

OP I have this dress in 3 different colours that I have worn to balls. My figure sounds very similar to yours and I’m always very conscience of my tummy but this dress is so flattering! I don’t have the Oyster colour but I have seen it and it’s a beautiful pale gold colour.

This one is beautiful too, but I'd recommend avoiding long sleeves in the Spring or Summer. At my wedding I felt hot the whole time even with air-conditioning (some people felt chilly). It's the emotions. I had no sleeves, just a scarf ready in case I needed it.

This is pretty

xela21 · 20/05/2021 09:55

I have just tried to call my local John Lewis to check stock availability - I am through to a call centre in the Phillipines who's telling me none of the dresses are in stock in any size, any colour in my local JL... (I've check for Ghost - Clauda, Salma and Adrianna Pepell Champagne) Hmm

Does this look too bridesmaidy too?

Yes!!!
wimbler · 20/05/2021 10:17

john lewis do free next day collection to store/waitrose and free returns. would that be doable? could order a few to try on and send back what you don't like/doesn't fit?

becarefultheyarelistening · 20/05/2021 10:22

@xela21 Have you posted a photo of the wedding dress you have bought already ?

I know the ASOS bridesmaid dress with the sequins and taupe skirt is really a dull colour. The sequins are lovely and bright but the skirt is meh.

greymayday · 20/05/2021 10:26

I’d order them for next day delivery if you’ve got enough in your bank account OP, and then return the rest as soon as you’ve tried them on and made your decision. I actually hate trying stuff on in store anyway (which indeed posed a problem when wedding dress shopping!) and I think you can get a way better feel for an outfit when trying it on at home where you can test different lightings, different mirrors etc.

SorrelForbes · 20/05/2021 10:32

I'm 5'3.5" and a small UK10. I've worn the Ghost Sylvia and tried the Salma. Neither are clingy at all and were good length wise (with heels).

Coast have lots on their site.
They're usually well made and easily resold if you want to.

The fairly large Oxfam near us ,has a first floor full of brand new wedding dresses . Often long dresses say Monsoon , other clothes lines of long evening dresses maybe /

The House of fraser one is beautiful!

xela21 · 20/05/2021 11:09

I have bought the champagne gold Adrianna Papell one as nowhere nearby stocks it and I think this is my favourite (feel like it will be more forgiving with curvy contours..)

In two minds whether to order the Ghost dress too or not - torn between Salma and Claudia, also unsure if I'd be a small or extra small, toying with the idea of one in S, other in XS - just a lot of money to spend at once especially knowing I will only keep one!

Thoughts?
