To ask if this hair colour is blonde or brunette?

My hair colour is dark blonde or light brown ("mousey brown"). I don't particularly like it but I think it's what suits me best.

I have always referred to it as being brown/brunette. However, my colleagues were discussing hair colour and all agreed that they would refer to me as being blonde. I know it's an ambiguous colour but I'm curious, would you say this hair colour is blonde or brunette?

@Ijustknowitstimetogo

It’s nothing like brunette! Google brunette images and you’ll see it’s a dark warm brown.

OP picture is dark blond (with lights).

it's clearly brunette

OK then, just because it might not be what you’d describe as ‘brunette’, doesn’t mean it’s not brown.
MoltenLasagne · 16/05/2021 05:40

I'd personally call it brunette hair but the hair colour charts at the hairdresser (you know with the loops of fake hair) would put it in the 7 range which apparently is dark blonde...

I think its something to do with the lack of depth to the base colour maybe? A dark blonde is easily lifted to a lighter blonde whereas brunette is stubborn.

BeneathYourWisdom · 16/05/2021 06:23

Light brown with blonde highlights. The blonde highlights are quite obvious (at least from the back) I guess without them you’d be brunette and almost dark blonde with them? Depends what your natural roots are like.

Brunette

That hair has been balayaged or highlighted so your question is redundant.

ghostyslovesheets · 16/05/2021 08:10

It’s clearly a wig

ErrolTheDragon · 16/05/2021 08:12

Since when did brunette mean dark brown? It means brown. Any shade of brown

It's what the dictionaries define it as.

A person, typically a woman, with dark brown hair.

Blonde otoh is
fair or pale yellow.

There's a lot of hair which is really neither 'blonde' or 'brunette'.

I suppose the OPs is one of the many shades of brown.

My hair's so dark it looks black from a distance. I'd still describe myself as a brunette. Surely the term encompasses all shades of brown from light brown to dark brown?

That's not what the dictionary says - though the etymology is just from 'brown' Grin.
If your hair is very dark brown then sure, it's brunette.

Chickychoccyegg · 16/05/2021 08:25

Brown with highlights. Its most definitely not mousey . It looks lovely.

DrWankincense · 16/05/2021 08:28

Brown with blonde highlights. Definitely not blonde.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 16/05/2021 08:39

Light brown. It’s lovely.

cakefanatic · 16/05/2021 08:40

I have similar hair to the original pictures. I refer to it as ‘marvellous mouse’ 🤣

MumofPsuedoAdult · 16/05/2021 08:40

When you say 'brunette' I picture Penelope Cruz. Yours is dark blonde or light brown. Not brunette.

Girlintheframe · 16/05/2021 08:42

I would say brown. It's gorgeous!

Wannakisstheteacher · 16/05/2021 08:48

Definitely brunette

AliTheMinx · 16/05/2021 08:57

Light brown with blonde highlights x

LouiseTrees · 16/05/2021 09:03

It’s brown but the highlights make it look dark blonde
