I think that we all try to be reasonable and non judgemental. However, I do think we can be labelling and bias at times. I was just discussing in private, with dh , my own pet peeve. He was quite taken aback .. he never judges , is mostly fair . Its made me wonder if many of us have quiet little unreasonable ( and are aware of ) thoughts and judgements .. ?! Meant to be light hearted.😂

I am hesitant about posting this as it makes me come across as an awful person. I consider myself open-minded and accepting of everyone but in this instance I was not, and it doesn't sit easy with me.

When I was 19 I lived in a small town in northern France for a year teaching English. I could not walk down the street without being sexually harassed. It was awful. During that year I was followed in cars, cat called, even flashed at a few times incessantly.

It was usually North African/Moroccan young men who were doing it. So it got to the point that if I saw a person of that description in the distance I would cross the road or change direction.

I am not proud of myself for it. But there we go.

Countrygirl2021 · 14/05/2021 06:55

Not allowed to eat in the street though? So you wait until you get home to eat your Gregg's sausage roll? It'll be cold??

That's the whole point though isn't it. Only a certain "class" of person would be eating a sausage roll from Gregg's in the first place for it to need to be eaten in the street.

I do agree with this one. People walking along eating us very common. Worst still is seeing children young enough to be in a pushchair with a sausage roll/ their little hands stuffed into a crisp packet. Teach them that eating happens at tables.

I really hate it when people don’t know how to use basic punctuation correctly.

Pottedpalm · 14/05/2021 06:58

Men in tracksuit bottoms unless for sport.
Fat women in leggings.
Camel toes on view.
Tattoos. Why mutilate yourself permanently?
Caravans parked in gardens. Why should I have to see your tin tent every time I look out of my window?
People who have to slurp ‘a coffee’ on their way to work/the shops/the gym..
Greggs

Pottedpalm · 14/05/2021 07:01

@Tiddleypoms

I think this post is ,in part , due to the long lockdown.. I used to really enjoy a wine fuelled rant with close pals .. for the sake of it. Half of it not even true .. and we knew it .. just enjoying getting wound up ... and being hariddens .
Misuse of punctuation... it’s annoying... very , annoying...
ConfusedAdultFemale · 14/05/2021 07:07

There is nothing wrong with bias and judgement, everyone in the world has both. The problems come around when you start verbalising or showing those bias and judgements to other people. I don’t understand why anyone would feel bad about how they are and what they think, what’s inside your head isn’t who you are as a person. If you treat everyone with respect and kindness, whether you’re bias and judgmental of them or not, then who cares? Why beat yourself up over it? I judge the junkies in my area but if one of them were hurt or needed help (not in the form of drugs or money), I’d help them. They’re people who deserve kindness and help the same as everyone else even if i think they’re also arseholes for leaving smashed glass all over the place and brawling in the streets.

@MrsNewtS you may want to look at your own spelling.
People (DH) who start breaking BEFORE they indicate. The whole point of the indicators is to warn people you are about to perform a manoeuvre that will likely involve breaking.

People who can’t spell

When in my 20s I actively disliked blonde men, wouldn’t go out with one (if I was asked, which was never) Disliked my future bil on sight as he was blonde. For the record I’m blonde.
This bit me on the arse when I had 2 blonde sons.

OhWhyNot · 14/05/2021 07:36

I roll my eyes (so judging) people who claim they never judge others

Of course you do we make assumptions all the time

Understanding why we do and challenging this is important but we all do it

nancywhitehead · 14/05/2021 07:40

@Tiddleypoms

The not eating in a shop or a street is a good example. I was not allowed to do that as a child. It was drilled into me . My mind sometimes leaps to judge this when people eat in shops .. before I have had the opportunity to check myself .
That's really interesting! I wouldn't think twice about eating walking around streets in town (probably wouldn't in an actual shop)

Only yesterday I had a sausage roll whilst walking around town! I'm now wondering if I was being judged haha.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 14/05/2021 07:41

@EachandEveryone

Newborn baby fathers who tell me their child’s name is their own name whilst the poor woman is next to them in their wheel chair looking shellshocked from giving birth. It pisses me off no end. And don’t get me started on the “we’re breastfeeding” “we didn’t find the labour too bad” or god when they get in there and start squeezing the mothers breast and teasing the nipple it makes me boak
You’ve met some weirdos then.

Oh another-literally. Stop it. It’s not what you think it means. It makes you look like an over angsty teen.

JangleBangle · 14/05/2021 07:43

I would just like to stand up for the Extinction rebels I know and respect. Yes, some of them are Crusties, as Boris Johnson labelled them, and dress as described above. But there are also many who dress and live in a more conservative (small c) way. There are scientists, doctors, grandparents, teachers, lecturers, mother's, students, people from all walks of life, all ages, different political parties, different social backgrounds.
They have one thing in common, they are aware of the climate crisis and are dedicated to making a difference.

The media and the government are very aware of the bias against crusties, hippies and so will highlight and focus on them in their rethoric. They will film them, interview them to highlight how out of touch the rebels are.
If you were to attend a rebellion or action, you could listen to and engage with highly intelligent, well spoken and often well dressed people. But they don't make the news stories.

Oops, mothers not mother's! Phone autocorrects for some reason

sweetypop · 14/05/2021 07:51

I hate almost everyone eon the school run. So many inconsiderate people just parking wherever they want with no regard... oh hang on that's not an unreasonable dislike is it

Ok another is the group of school run mums who stand outside school smoking and gossiping both after drop off and before pick up... sometimes I wonder if they've even gone home since drop off... surely they have something better to be doing

Countrygirl2021 · 14/05/2021 07:55

People who shave chavvy patterns into little boys hair.

Feeding your children loads of processed crap. Thinking it's ok to give coco pops, shreddies or chocolate flipping pillows for breakfast, crisps with lunch and fish fingers and chips for dinner.

People that dress scruffily when going out E.G. Shorts in a restaurant or tracksuit bottoms when you haven't been to the gym.

Chunkymenrock · 14/05/2021 07:59

@melitza, it's braking. As in you apply the brakes.

I'm sorry you went through that! Don't feel bad about crossing the street.

I saw that head line in the daily fail yesterday '29 men charged with sexually abusing girl 13 in Bradford' and I instantly thought these men will be foreigners. And I wasn't wrong. Maybe I thought that because it was Bradford and I do associate that area with a high ethnic community. Maybe it was because of the previous high profile sexual exploitation case.

UhtredRagnarson .. thats the thing .. why ? .
Heaven spelt backward! Also not a fan Confused
wearetheweirdosmr · 14/05/2021 08:00

People who buy bottled water , not because they are out for the day etc but 2L bottles and in the supermarket.
We don't live in the third world, our tap water is safe and we are killing the planet with unnecessary plastic!!!

People who let their kids take a scooter etc into shopping centres- it's not a fucking playground

Smokers- even though I smoked as a teen.

Men/boys who have their trousers slung low to show me their pants- why just why?!

Chunkymenrock · 14/05/2021 08:03

I judge people who write breath (rhymes with death) when they mean breathe (rhymes with seethe.) Your and you're confusion is beyond ridiculous too. Simply check if you are trying to say 'you are' (you're is an abbreviation) or not (then use your. )

majesticallyawkward · 14/05/2021 08:05

@sweetypop tf? 'Foreigners'? I know we are talking about bias and pet peeves here but that's is out and out racism.

You realise it's possible to be BAME and British? It's also possible for someone to commit a crime as an individual and gasp it not be linked to their ethnicity

doghairismyglitter · 14/05/2021 08:08

Just to point out, I currently always have my curtains downstairs closed in the day time; I’m working from home and answering calls, if my curtains are open my dog barks at every person/dog/cat/piece of dust that goes past. Sometimes there is a reason why, although under normal circumstances I wouldn’t!

ZoeMaye · 14/05/2021 08:09

I judge people who are intentionally unkind. Like, who go out of their way to make things worse for other people.
And people who talk to cleaners, waiters, fast food workers, retail workers and other similar roles like they are beneath them. That really pisses me off.

I silently judge people who say pacific instead of specific, UNLESS English is not their first language.
