Overrated places in the UK

What are your over rated places in the U.K. that everyone else seems to love?

Mine is the Peak District which imo has mediocre scenery spoilt by too many roads and too many people. I hate it and only ever agree to go if there’s nowhere else and we need to stop somewhere that way.

Stone Henge is just a NT scam.
I'm surprised they don't have a Volunteer enacting 3 card monte in the queue.

Just skip it, especially if you've already seen Egypt or Mexico's ancient offerings.

WhipperSnapperSteve · 12/05/2021 17:37

@Crocidura

Stratford-upon-Avon
Wondering why? We go every year, well we did pre-Covid, and quite like it. May just have low expectations though!
katy1213 · 12/05/2021 17:38

Center parcs for sure - it's just a posh Butlin's.
But how can you not like Edinburgh?

Morgoth · 12/05/2021 17:38

Brighton, Bristol, Edinburgh and most of London

whiteblinds · 12/05/2021 17:38

@Chickychickydodah

London. Too expensive, overrated and dirty...
Wimbledon isn't dirty. Maybe you need to visit nicer places
SmidgenofaPigeon · 12/05/2021 17:38

We don’t drive (typical Londoners) so when we’ve had to holiday in the U.K. I’m always shocked about how much driving you have to do to get to all the good bits 😂. We’ve always gone abroad normally so it’s a bit of a change for us. We tried the Cotswolds last year and I thought it’d be fine, we are keen walkers so we thought we’d just walk. You have to drive to get to the walks 😂 ditto a lot of the Peak District.

DinosaurDiana · 12/05/2021 17:40

Blackpool. It’s dirty.

cupsofcoffee · 12/05/2021 17:40

London
Harrogate
Center Parcs
The Trafford Centre

SuziQuatrosFatNan · 12/05/2021 17:41

Edinburgh is the original corner of a foreign field that's Forever England.

midsomermurderess · 12/05/2021 17:42

Unless you live there, Suzi.

DinosaurDiana · 12/05/2021 17:42

The Trafford Centre makes me feel claustrophobic. Take the top off and our more stairs/exits in and it would be ok.
Oh, and some decent shops too.

DinosaurDiana · 12/05/2021 17:42

*put

HOkieCOkie · 12/05/2021 17:42

Any of those god awful chav resorts like Pontins and Butliins.

sst1234 · 12/05/2021 17:44

Edinburgh for sure

Surferofwaves · 12/05/2021 17:44

Surrey- full of boring wankers obsessed with schools, the Jones', property prices and washing their cars.

I absolutely love most of the places people hate on here though. Brighton, Bath, London, Bristol.. love love love

SuziQuatrosFatNan · 12/05/2021 17:44

Never going to happen @midsomermurderess Grin

BrownEyedGirl80 · 12/05/2021 17:45

Beverly

PoTheDog · 12/05/2021 17:45

@SmidgenofaPigeon

I don’t think it’s really even possible to say ‘London’ because you should be specific. What bits? They’re all different 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’m saying Brighton. Wanky and grimy.

Tbf, if the OP is allowed to say the whole of the Peak District, then "London" as a legit contribution should be allowed!
JustCatting · 12/05/2021 17:45

Same PPs that have mentioned Cambridge.

I hate it. Fine for a day if you're a tourist but a fucking nightmare to live here.

turnthebiglightoff · 12/05/2021 17:47

Brighton. Shithole.

Tulipomania · 12/05/2021 17:47

Those of you Stonehenge-haters should visit Avebury instead.

The stones are smaller but they integrated into the village and you can walk around properly, it's much more atmospheric. And there isn't a busy road thundering past.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 12/05/2021 17:48

Seems I have different tastes to many!
We were quite impressed by Weymouth last summer - just used it as a base but we enjoyed the evenings there, though didn't spend any time there during the day. We also loved Bristol!
Also think parts of the Peak District and the Cotswolds are stunning if you walk rather than drive through wondering what everyone is raving about.

IHaveBrilloHair · 12/05/2021 17:48

I've been to some of these places and had a good time, including a "Chav resort"!
I'll be back in Edinburgh this summer.

Bobbybobbins · 12/05/2021 17:48

The Lake District - really want to love it but it's been solid rain every time we've gone!

lakesidelife · 12/05/2021 17:49

The Lake District, busy and wet.
Scenery not as good as Scotland.
