To be in pyjamas on a Sunday afternoon?

Went out this morning for a walk with the kids and got absolutely soaked. When we got in I had a shower and put on clean pyjamas and planned to spend the rest of the day lounging and eating and watching films.
The door went and it was a neighbour picking up a parcel that was left. Never really spoken to her much since she moved in. When I answered she immediately said oh my goodness have I got you out of bed. I said no and handed the parcel. She took a deliberate look at her watch and then asked if I was ill.
Surely it’s not so odd to be in pyjamas on a miserable wet Sunday?!
@motherloaded I have kids in the house, we do enough activities to be able to stay in our pjs when we're at home.

Anyone else not actually sleep in their pjs though? I wear T-shirt to bed but have nice pjs for chilling out in.
Same!

I sleep in an oversized t-shirt as I get too hot in actual pajamas.

@motherloaded

It all becomes a moot point when you have kids anyway.

You can't slob and stay in all day with kid, and you surely don't want to look and behave like a slob if you have teens in the house!

But I agree, get up, make your bed, get dressed. I don't care what others are doing, I would feel so uncomfortable.

Erm. I have a kid. Confused

Was just me and her most of the time when she was tiny (DH worked away) and you can bet your arse there were days we didn’t get dressed/leave the house. You do what you gotta do. (Plus outdoors in winter in Wales isn’t somewhere you always wanna be.)

We have 6 days a week one week where we are out and 7 the next. It’s nice to have a day at home once a fortnight without having to go anywhere. My mum and sister regularly have PJ days as well. 🤷🏻‍♀️

my poor kids would be climbing the walls if I locked them up in the house all day!

I guess they are generally active and sociable, and so are all their friends. When they were babies, I would have gone crazy stuck home all day too!

Each to their own.

NavigatingAdolescence · 09/05/2021 20:35

Mine (10) is extremely active (and sociable in lots of settings Hmm) 13 days a fortnight - until gone 9pm on 3 days a week. She needs a break.

Yeah I have kids. They're happy for a pj day. They get out plenty.

I've been in my pjs most of this afternoon. Had a nap first then dyed my hair had a shower then put my pjs on.

wishiwasabraverman · 09/05/2021 20:56

I haven't left the house or my pyjamas all day, I'm very hungover.

KurtWilde · 09/05/2021 21:05

@cupsofcoffee yep I'm the same, pjs make me way too warm to sleep in them.

999Alex · 09/05/2021 21:13

No I'd say she's the odd one!

I went out sofa shopping today then went for lunch. Got home and first thing I did was take my contact lenses out, glasses on followed by clothes off and pjs on, just so much more comfortable! Sometimes I wear some loungwear but today was just pjs.

newnortherner111 · 09/05/2021 21:17

I'd assume you were ill were I in the neighbour's place.

It may not be unusual and it seems to me in your case to be a one off, but I wonder if someone is having to be in pyjamas because they are comfortable, they are in denial about their normal clothes fitting or wear things that scream 'fashion follower' to me.

Sorry wrong thread

Beachbabe1 · 09/05/2021 21:31

How rude!! Why get dressed on a lazy afternoon after showering and being out. May as well put your pjs on.

motherloaded · 09/05/2021 21:40

@hattiecattie

Someone please push me against the wall and kiss me passionately, make me weak at the knees I beg of you.
sounded like an interesting new direction for the whole "I live in nightwear" debate Grin
Blueberrywhirl320 · 09/05/2021 21:52

No it's not odd! I'm in my pajamas all day, everyday unless I'm going out 😁😁😁

I did exactly that 2 weeks ago. Lush.
Confusedaboutlots · 09/05/2021 22:00

nothing wrong with that

although i wear loungewear at home and PJs only for bed - not sure why but i don’t like wearing PJs outside my bed

i would never wear jeans at home

motherloaded · 09/05/2021 22:02

Wearing pjs or not is rather irrelevant anyway,

it's hardly shocking if a neighbour thought you were in bed or unwell if you answer the door in your pjs in the middle of the afternoon.

If you had been wearing a ball gown, they would probably assume you were on your way to a party!

Housewife2010 · 09/05/2021 22:07

Mumsnet seems like a parallel universe. Or maybe it's a class thing? 😉 I don't know anyone amongst my family or friends who would spend their days in pyjamas unless they were unwell.

lazylinguist · 09/05/2021 22:10

I wouldn't judge, but I only wear pyjamas for going to bed. Spending all of the rest of the day eating sounds a bit odd though.

3Britnee · 09/05/2021 22:13

I don't get dressed unless I have to go out 🤷‍♀️. It's either PJ's or leggings & tshirt/hoody, and sometimes a dressing gown, if it's cold, for me. I have indoor clothes that I'd never wear out. I get changed as soon as I get in too, if I don't have to go out again.

DeeCeeCherry · 09/05/2021 22:24

When she looked at her watch then said "Are you ill?" you should have deadpanned "No, are you?"

Rose789 · 09/05/2021 22:25

Goodness I didn’t think my Sunday Jim jams would cause quite that reaction Grin

ImInStealthMode · 09/05/2021 22:29

Not at all unreasonable OP. I haven't left the house all day so have been in PJs throughout.
