To be in pyjamas on a Sunday afternoon?

Went out this morning for a walk with the kids and got absolutely soaked. When we got in I had a shower and put on clean pyjamas and planned to spend the rest of the day lounging and eating and watching films.
The door went and it was a neighbour picking up a parcel that was left. Never really spoken to her much since she moved in. When I answered she immediately said oh my goodness have I got you out of bed. I said no and handed the parcel. She took a deliberate look at her watch and then asked if I was ill.
Surely it’s not so odd to be in pyjamas on a miserable wet Sunday?!

She sounds rude and judgmental.

I'd maybe had said we got wet on a walk so changed into pyjamas but that would be out of feeling uncomfortable and you didn't need to explain anything to her at all.

babbaloushka · 09/05/2021 17:25

Been in my dressing gown all day today. She sounds like a PITA, so unnecessarily rude. If she comes round again maybe answer the door in something REALLY scandalous, she'd have an aneurysm.

ElderMillennial · 09/05/2021 17:27

And I was in my pyjamas until about 12 or 1 pm as I had a lazy morning before having a shower and then doing some housework in the afternoon

I'm tempted to get into pyjamas again soon

Newestname001 · 09/05/2021 17:28

@Pemba

I wouldn't take in any parcels for her again. She's rude and weirdly judgy.

Yep to this. It's really none of her business what you wear or don't wear in your own home. 🌹

Countrygirl2021 · 09/05/2021 17:28

I admit I would judge if I saw someone in pyjamas in the daytime. I sometimes change from jeans to leggings in the daytime inside but I would be mortified if my neighbour popped by in the day and I was in pyjamas.

I think it's a bit of a class divide thing. We live in a rural affluent area and I'm conscious of not being someone that we are the least posh in our hamlet. I feel that perhaps makes a difference to how I would feel about being caught in pyjamas.

I also think it's lazy though to stay in and lounge around.

Cam2020 · 09/05/2021 17:30

Nosey twat of a neighbour!

vodkaredbullgirl · 09/05/2021 17:31

Just going to throw it in here somewhere. I have work pjs and home pjs.

ilikebungalows · 09/05/2021 17:34

Your house, your rules.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 09/05/2021 17:37

Very rude of her to make such a fuss about it!

You’re perfectly within your rights to be in PJs in your own home.

VeganVeal · 09/05/2021 17:39

I've seen some people at the supermarket wearing them, and do I judge?

Yes, too right

RubyWooRed · 09/05/2021 17:40

I think it’s lazy to lounge around in Pyjamas all day.
Bad example to set to kids too , I think it’s really slobby.

Just get up , make beds , get everyone dressed ready to face the day.

I would only wear pjs during day at home if I was ill in bed.

Pjs are for bed or sick bed .

I worked about 60 hours this week. Ran around getting DD to all her activities yesterday. We aren’t leaving the house today, so why do I need to do any of that?!

(Not that I give a rat’s ass what you think about it.)
We get one PJ day a fortnight. And we bloody need it.

RestUp · 09/05/2021 17:45

If I'm home, my pj's are on.

Getafuckinggripman · 09/05/2021 17:46

What a twat! Her not you!

ExhaustedFlamingo · 09/05/2021 17:48

I'd have said "sorry, yes I've got COVID" and then coughed before handing over the parcel.

(Obviously not really, but she's been incredibly rude so it's an entertaining idea....)

Merryoldgoat · 09/05/2021 17:49

I told my neighbour after I’d moved in a week or so that I don’t get dressed on Sundays unless I have to.

She was rude and it’s no one else’s business. I don’t understand why people view being in PJs during the day as a moral failure.

Waveafterwaveslowlydrifting · 09/05/2021 17:51

I'd say yes I'm ill please go away.

BelleBlueBell · 09/05/2021 17:58

Personally I would never wear bed wear during the day, I think it's a bit odd but I don't spend much time lounging so the opportunity wouldn't really arise

However, there's absolutely no need for you to care what I think or do and no need to check with anyone else what you wear in your own home

Blacktothepink · 09/05/2021 18:00

I’m in my pjs, but them on when I got home.

LST · 09/05/2021 18:05

@FleetwoodRaincoat

I find it weird that people wear pyjamas all day. What if someone calls round or you need to go out of your front door?

Do you sleep in the same ones? Surely tracksuit bottoms and a t-shirt would work instead.

You answer it because you'd assume the person knocking on wasn't a judgemental arsehole. And if they were, thats their problem not mine

I'm so glad I'm not of your 'class'
Onesnowynight · 09/05/2021 18:09

I do 40-60 hour weeks plus overnight stays, unless I’m going out at the weekend then I’m in my slouchies. Lazy? Grin I work my arse of during the week (was up at 5am working this morning) so I don’t give a rats arse to what people think about my lazy weekends!

WarandFleece · 09/05/2021 18:10

She was rude , especially as you had just done her a favour.

My comfortable "home uniform" is yoga pants, a Henley top and trainers or mules, and that means I can open the front door, clean, cook, walk the dog, pop to the shop, perhaps with an addition of gilet or rain mac without getting changed. And then I have "proper" clothes for work, going out etc. There's not much difference between them and PJs tbh. I've learnt from experience (A&E trips, emergency vet runs) that it's a good idea to have clothes that are decent to wear in public in case of emergencies.

Not much difference between jersey PJs and tracksuit bottoms and a t-shirt. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’d answer the door in PJs, go to the detached garage in them, the cars on the drive, big bin, put washing out in them. What has it got to do with anyone else?!

Wow. I'd literally hate to know you in anyway. Pjs are for wearing whenever the fuck you want to wear them if you are in your own bloody home.
