To be in pyjamas on a Sunday afternoon?

Went out this morning for a walk with the kids and got absolutely soaked. When we got in I had a shower and put on clean pyjamas and planned to spend the rest of the day lounging and eating and watching films.
The door went and it was a neighbour picking up a parcel that was left. Never really spoken to her much since she moved in. When I answered she immediately said oh my goodness have I got you out of bed. I said no and handed the parcel. She took a deliberate look at her watch and then asked if I was ill.
Surely it’s not so odd to be in pyjamas on a miserable wet Sunday?!

I wouldn’t dream of wearing underwear that didn’t match though. 🤔

kiksta · 09/05/2021 18:20

I got up, got washed, changed out of my sleep pjs into clean pjs which I have been in all day.

When I go to bed I'll change into my sleep pjs.

I don't give a flying fuck what anyone thinks.

CheesecakeAddict · 09/05/2021 18:20

Nope. I went to the supermarket when they opened this morning. I got back in my pjs as soon as I got back in. I hate wearing normal clothes in the house.

2bazookas · 09/05/2021 18:22

Today (Sunday) it was lunchtime, nearly mid-day. We were dressed and getting into car heading out for lunch.

. NDN is in the garden in her pyjamas sorting out her bins.
NDN keeps her head turned away so I don't call out hello and we can both pretend we haven't noticed each other. Though I do quite like her pyjama bottoms ( which don''t match the tops).

That is the polite correct etiquette for pyjama encounters.

Today is my first day off in nearly a month.

I didn't get out of bed until nearly 10am, got the housework done, showered, then changed into fresh PJ's and I've barely moved from the sofa since Grin'

Sarahandco · 09/05/2021 18:28

Sounds like a perfect Sunday!

2bazookas · 09/05/2021 18:28

@vodkaredbullgirl

Just going to throw it in here somewhere. I have work pjs and home pjs.
I'm glad to hear it. It's important to keep up professional standards when WFH.
vodkaredbullgirl · 09/05/2021 18:29

I don't wfh lol, I work nights in a dementia home.

Housewife2010 · 09/05/2021 18:36

I think it's a bit odd. Unless our family were actually ill, we dress every day.

Why? I find it more odd you get dressed if you're not going anywhere
Woodlandbelle · 09/05/2021 18:46

Older people are a bit like this.

Dh had never seen his elderly mother in nightwear ever. She wouldn't be downstairs in anything other than full dress.

Oh I am just following now as I want to know your friends reply 😂

why not?
You'd have to get dress again if you go out.
Nightwear is perfect for sleeping or slobbing, but not that comfortable to do anything else.

It would get dirty or smell of food after being worn in the day, so you'd need to change before bed anyway.

In my house we wear clothes too.

motherloaded · 09/05/2021 19:41

I am always puzzled by people buying clothes so uncomfortable they can't be worn at home Confused

Uniforms, or expensive dry-cleaning only work clothes, fine.

But anything else? I find it puzzling that you don't have casual clothes suitable for home.

vodkaredbullgirl · 09/05/2021 19:43

Nothing wrong with being a slob on a Sunday Grin

sweetchillidumplings · 09/05/2021 19:45

@FleetwoodRaincoat

I find it weird that people wear pyjamas all day. What if someone calls round or you need to go out of your front door?

Do you sleep in the same ones? Surely tracksuit bottoms and a t-shirt would work instead.

I often keep my pjs on during the day on a weekend (I do shower then change them before going back to bed if I've worn them in the day though) if I know I'm not planning to go out. People rarely pop into my house unannounced, if they did it would most likely be my mum and she doesn't care. If there was an emergency I think I'd be more worried about the emergency than what I'm wearing!
TheNinny · 09/05/2021 19:47

Yanbu. I have ‘loungewear’ which is essentially daytime pyjamas I wear when in the house. Bra usually off too. I only change out of if going outside. Your neighbour sounds like my MIL lol when she shows up unexpected on my days off 😆

motherloaded · 09/05/2021 19:49

It all becomes a moot point when you have kids anyway.

You can't slob and stay in all day with kid, and you surely don't want to look and behave like a slob if you have teens in the house!

But I agree, get up, make your bed, get dressed. I don't care what others are doing, I would feel so uncomfortable.

What are pajamas if not clothes?

If your nightwear isn't comfortable enough to sit and watch TV in, you need new nightwear Grin

motherloaded · 09/05/2021 19:56

you are missing the point, I'd have to be seriously ill to sit and watch tv and do nothing else all day.

Where have you been going every weekend for the past year in lockdown? Grin
KurtWilde · 09/05/2021 20:05

@motherloaded I have kids in the house, we do enough activities to be able to stay in our pjs when we're at home.

Anyone else not actually sleep in their pjs though? I wear T-shirt to bed but have nice pjs for chilling out in.
