AIBU?

That Freddie dying isn't a spoiler FFS

Got this 'friend' who is the first to jump in at every opportunity to say 'oh, you've done that wrong'.

One of her hallmarks is calling you out when you've supposedly let others down.

Her call out today on a WA group is when I've said after watching Bohemian Rhapsody how tragic for poor Freddie Mercury to die at such a young age from aids.

Her response? Spoiler alert! 'Ruined that for me now'. It's a public fact not a work of fiction. What next, letting her know the titanic sinks!

Any suggestions on a response that is better than F off?

Or AIBU

@donquixotedelamancha

Let her know that he's real, Queen was real, and those songs weren't written for some show about a band...

Nah, tell her that in Queen 2 it turns out his death was faked.

YES!!!!! TELL HER ABOUT QUEEN 2

@TheMotherlode

This reminds me of a friend who got really annoyed with a housemate for ‘spoiling’ Star Wars because she walked into the room while Darth Vader was on the screen and said ‘has he told Luke he’s his father yet’ 😂

Surely that is the very definition of a spoiler, why is that funny?

Because it's been almost 50 years since Star Wars was released!

@BelleBlueBell because the film is 40 years old?

I’m gobsmacked by her ignorance. It’s just general knowledge and a significant time in history, not a source of entertainment for her! I’d just say that you won’t be mentioning any celebrity deaths pre 21st century incase you may potentially ruin any existing or upcoming films for her.

Well, justifiably as that was quite an unnecessary thing to do and spiteful

I CANNOT believe more than one person has said spoiling Star Wars is a thing.

Come on.

I’d just say “are you for real? You had no idea that Freddie Mercury was dead?”

@jerometheturnipking

I'd want to follow that up with "Well I wouldn't get too invested in Princess Diana in the next series of the Crown then..."

OMG that made me chuckle! Please send her that!

Is there a rule I've missed that everyone has to have watched every film pre 1980? Do you know the plot twist of every film pre then?

That's an odd way to think, if your child decided to watch the Star Wars series would it be funny to spoil their enjoyment by revealing all the twists and turns? I certainly wouldn't do it

@intheenddoesitreallymatter

Is she for real?!

Reply: Hang on were you not joking?! You genuinely don't know that Freddie Mercury, the lead singer of Queen, died of Aids?! Lol *Emily where have you been for the past thirty years?! It's hardly new news!

OP, please say this!

It's one thing having a general conversation and mentioning the Father thing, and someone not knowing. That's no one's fault. Bit walking into a movie and asking of one of the central plot points has happened yet is just plain spiteful / stupid

But it’s one of the most famous movie lines/scenes ever surely? Confused

My MIL came out of the movies after watching it and said she had no idea he was gay and couldn’t understand why they said he was Indian as she thought he was from London. We told her that they used artistic licence to make it more interesting 😂 She did at least know he died though.

Where does she think Freddie Mercury has been for the past 30 years?? In the studio working on a new album??

She sounds like a complete knob but some people do have odd gaps in their knowledge.

My lovely and clever friend had no idea John Lennon was dead. It came up in conversation and she thought he just liked the quiet life Grin.
