That Freddie dying isn't a spoiler FFS

Got this 'friend' who is the first to jump in at every opportunity to say 'oh, you've done that wrong'.

One of her hallmarks is calling you out when you've supposedly let others down.

Her call out today on a WA group is when I've said after watching Bohemian Rhapsody how tragic for poor Freddie Mercury to die at such a young age from aids.

Her response? Spoiler alert! 'Ruined that for me now'. It's a public fact not a work of fiction. What next, letting her know the titanic sinks!

Any suggestions on a response that is better than F off?

Or AIBU

I knew anyway, being a life-long Queenie.

Standrewsschool · 09/05/2021 17:43

Claim to fame, op I’ve met Queens official photographer. Very interesting chap. Told us lots of interesting tidbits about Freddy Mercury/Queen and the stories behind the picture. Eg. FM liked the audience in the background of shots, and not the stage, as they are integral to the whole event.

minou123 · 09/05/2021 17:43

@jerometheturnipking

I'd want to follow that up with "Well I wouldn't get too invested in Princess Diana in the next series of the Crown then..."
That made me laugh proper out loud Grin

Am I a bad person? Blush

intheenddoesitreallymatter · 09/05/2021 17:44

Is she for real?!

Reply: Hang on were you not joking?! You genuinely don't know that Freddie Mercury, the lead singer of Queen, died of Aids?! Lol *Emily where have you been for the past thirty years?! It's hardly new news!

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 09/05/2021 17:44

@donquixotedelamancha

Please, please ask her why she thought FM hasn't been making much music in recent years.
This, ask this!! Please!
BullOx · 09/05/2021 17:46

@wellwellwellhereweare

Right. She's replied.

"Not all of us know the endings and it's just good form to keep quiet. I'd rather not know, thank you and a lot of effort has gone in to maintaining the suspense".

No one else is commenting.

I think she thinks it's all fiction!

Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?
UCOinanOCG · 09/05/2021 17:46

Nice work OP!

EdwinPootsLovesArchaeology · 09/05/2021 17:47

As an aside I just cannot get worked up about spoilers. Telly addicts is like walking on eggshells sometimes.

The rules are simple.

You can only talk about what's been broadcast at the scheduled time but pursuant to sub-sections 1 and 2 of my the rules, no series trailers or post-episode trailers that show a scene, even a nano-second's worth, of an episode that hasn't yet been broadcast at its scheduled time may be mentioned. For that is a grave sin.

Pursuant to sub-section 3, interviews with actors, writers and others in print or other media are banned from discussion.

Anything anyone sees on social media or hears at work is banned. It's your responsibility not to put yourself in a position where you might hear something you later blurt out. Talking to my nan is banned. Waiting at bustops is banned. BANNED.

MeadowLines · 09/05/2021 17:48

BelleBlueBell · 09/05/2021 17:51

Grin at the thought of biopics appearing in the “suspense” section on Netflix

This is so going to end up being picked up by MSM Grin

intheenddoesitreallymatter · 09/05/2021 17:51

Actually no just send her a link to his wikipedia page with a ...

NewlyGranny · 09/05/2021 17:51

From here in, OP needs to post a personal spoiler alert for this person at the top of Every. Single. Post. and make everyone scroll down until the whole group hates her and she begs OP to stop.

EastWestWhosBest · 09/05/2021 17:52

Just say ‘well he died in 1991, do you think everyone should keep it a secret’?
That way we might find out if she thinks it was fiction.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 09/05/2021 17:52

I'd have been awfully tempted to send a screenshot from his wikipedia page.

Although in fairness, I did once spoil The Glenn Miller Story for a friend who was a music teacher and was planning to watch it with her Y3 class.

This reminds me of a friend who got really annoyed with a housemate for ‘spoiling’ Star Wars because she walked into the room while Darth Vader was on the screen and said ‘has he told Luke he’s his father yet’ 😂

Arbadacarba · 09/05/2021 17:54

I meant, is his death / struggle with aids a major plot point, as I would struggle to watch it if so; not ‘did Freddy Mercury die?’

It's a while since I watched it, but I don't remember that period of his life being covered in the biopic, so it wouldn't be a spoiler as such even if the fact of his death had escaped the viewer.

I remember hearing the news of Freddie's death in the morning on Radio 4 - it was only a couple of days after it had been officially confirmed he had AIDS, although he'd been looking so awfully frail in his increasingly rare appearances, that it wasn't really a shock. I was at sixth form at the time and it was all anyone talked about for several days.

ThanksMateThanksMate · 09/05/2021 17:54

GIVEN her reply I now think you are perfectly entitled and justified to go with your original response

"Fuck off (moron)"

And tell her fuck off from everyone on this thread too Angry

ShirleyPhallus · 09/05/2021 17:56

I know someone like this. Total and utter bellend

AnneFuckingKirrin · 09/05/2021 17:56

I thought that she might have been joking and it didn’t come across well.
What a numpty.

lifeissweet · 09/05/2021 17:58

I want to know how no one else in the group has said anything. If it was my friends they'd be all over it!

maddiemookins16mum · 09/05/2021 17:58

Has she watched Judy? That will be fun.
