Got this 'friend' who is the first to jump in at every opportunity to say 'oh, you've done that wrong'.

One of her hallmarks is calling you out when you've supposedly let others down.

Her call out today on a WA group is when I've said after watching Bohemian Rhapsody how tragic for poor Freddie Mercury to die at such a young age from aids.

Her response? Spoiler alert! 'Ruined that for me now'. It's a public fact not a work of fiction. What next, letting her know the titanic sinks!

Any suggestions on a response that is better than F off?

Or AIBU

@wellwellwellhereweare

Right. She's replied.

"Not all of us know the endings and it's just good form to keep quiet. I'd rather not know, thank you and a lot of effort has gone in to maintaining the suspense".

No one else is commenting.

I think she thinks it's all fiction!

Reply along the lines of Freddie was a legend who died in 1991, how long were you wanting me to keep that secret?

To be fair, if someone has been keeping Freddie Mercury’s death from her for all this time that is quite an effort...

😂😂

Just tell her you don’t think the ending of a bio of a real person who died in 1991 is any way suspenseful

When I was 8 months pregnant (And having a proper shit pregnancy) the 7th Harry Potter book came out and I was really looking forward to it.

A friend (no longer, bitch) called to ask how far I'd got with the book which wasnt far by that point.

Her exact words were, "So you dont know that Snape dies."

Fuck me I was fucking fuming.

Even 14 years later I still get the rage over it.

I'd have to reply "Do you know he is a real man, it's a real story and he died in 19whatever?" just to clarify if she things it's made up
MusicWithRocksIn1t · 09/05/2021 17:32

Spoilers!? It came out 3 years ago. 3 years! Are we just never ever meant to talk about any film ever incase we give away some piece of common knowledge that some dipstick wasn't aware of!?

MrsGulDukat · 09/05/2021 17:32

He died in 1991, please tell her that.

@wellwellwellhereweare I'd not be able to help replying 'sweetie, not even Hollywood can change the ending of Freddie's life. I'm not sure how you think it would end any differently from real life. Or did you think Fred would end up magically flying away in the clouds at the end, ala Grease?'
OldGreyBoots · 09/05/2021 17:33

@musicmenu I need to know what you found out now Grin

jakeyboy1 · 09/05/2021 17:35

She's hilarious!

Is she for real?!

MusicMenu · 09/05/2021 17:36

I didn't know he was of Indian, Parsi (sp?) heritage. No idea he wasn't white.

Hobnobsandbroomstick · 09/05/2021 17:37

"A lot of effort has gone in to maintaining the suspense".

...wtf does that mean?! Does she know Freddie Mercury was an actual person? I'd be tempted to reply that it must have taken her a lot of effort to maintain the suspense seeing as he died 30 years ago!

Serpenta · 09/05/2021 17:39

A couple of years ago I got chastised for for spoiling the end of ET for someone. Just in a random conversation where I said 'like when ET goes home at the end of the film', and someone else piped up 'I hadn't seen ET and now you've ruined the ending for me!'.

Piss off. It was released 40 years ago. Are we not allowed to ever discuss films for fear someone in earshot else hasn't seen it.

Jux · 09/05/2021 17:39

Oh! She really thinks Freddie is fictional then. Let her know that he's real, Queen was real, and those songs weren't written for some show about a band...

donquixotedelamancha · 09/05/2021 17:40

Please, please ask her why she thought FM hasn't been making much music in recent years.

Serpenta · 09/05/2021 17:40

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if a Hollywood producer put forward the idea that Freddie Mercury dying was too depressing for test audiences and could the writers maybe work around that by having him live instead Grin

Twenty2 · 09/05/2021 17:40

@MusicMenu

There was one thing I learned about FM from that film that I really didn't know. Am I allowed to say? Grin

G'wan, you know you want to!

Standrewsschool · 09/05/2021 17:41

As @SleepingStandingUp says

jerometheturnipking · 09/05/2021 17:41

I'd want to follow that up with "Well I wouldn't get too invested in Princess Diana in the next series of the Crown then..."

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 09/05/2021 17:41

Text back and ask her if she realises that Freddie Mercury was a real person?

minou123 · 09/05/2021 17:41

I would also go with Congressdingo reply:

Grin
Twenty2 · 09/05/2021 17:42

I see you've already posted that little spoiler, you spoily meany, you Grin

donquixotedelamancha · 09/05/2021 17:42

Nah, tell her that in Queen 2 it turns out his death was faked.

Hobnobsandbroomstick · 09/05/2021 17:42

Also the film was released in 2018 and if she didn't manage to watch it at some point in 2020 then she can't be that bothered anyway! What a drama llama.
