That Freddie dying isn't a spoiler FFS

Got this 'friend' who is the first to jump in at every opportunity to say 'oh, you've done that wrong'.

One of her hallmarks is calling you out when you've supposedly let others down.

Her call out today on a WA group is when I've said after watching Bohemian Rhapsody how tragic for poor Freddie Mercury to die at such a young age from aids.

Her response? Spoiler alert! 'Ruined that for me now'. It's a public fact not a work of fiction. What next, letting her know the titanic sinks!

Any suggestions on a response that is better than F off?

Or AIBU

I do hate it though when people spoil the ending of books or films and then say ‘but you’ve had 150 years to read it/ 40 years to watch it’.

No I haven’t. Especially if I only found out about the book a week ago.

grapewine · 09/05/2021 18:19

As she's not really a friend from the way you worded the posts, I'd go full sarcasm and ask if she was actually serious. But that's me. She sounds dim.

Jux · 09/05/2021 18:20

Ah, he's been hiding in the Well of Lost Plots, waiting for his Author to arrive.

Because it's been almost 50 years since Star Wars was released!

But the line isn't from Star Wars. It's from The Empire Strikes Back 😄

AliceMcK · 09/05/2021 18:22

@MrsGulDukat

When I was 8 months pregnant (And having a proper shit pregnancy) the 7th Harry Potter book came out and I was really looking forward to it.

A friend (no longer, bitch) called to ask how far I'd got with the book which wasnt far by that point.

Her exact words were, "So you dont know that Snape dies."

Fuck me I was fucking fuming.

Even 14 years later I still get the rage over it.

What! Snape dies 🙀🙀🙀🙀
ThePearSquare · 09/05/2021 18:22

I need to know if she doesn’t know that he is a real person and that Queen are actually a band!!

As for the whole Darth Vader/Luke Skywalker thing is referenced in so many films/tv programmes, I’m pretty sure it’s even in Toy Story 2.
To not have EVER heard that he is his father, would be very unlikely, and I’d have thought they lived under a rock.

MrsGulDukat · 09/05/2021 18:23

What! Snape dies

Whoopsy!!!

@wellwellwellhereweare

Right, I've put in the chat

"Sorry about that. The titanic sinks and Germany lose the war in Saving Private Ryan, saves you some watching time."

Ooooh snippy
ErrolTheDragon · 09/05/2021 18:26

Yes, I mean wtf else could such people think 'Luke, I am your father', intoned in a deep voice refer to?Confused

(Not having seen Star Wars is itself a sufficiently odd thing to be the name of a R4 show, of course)

wellwellwellhereweare · 09/05/2021 18:26

Ha. Lots of replies. A boring Sunday then Grin

I'm going to ask her if she knows FM is a real person. I'll not ask about the war.

You know, I did wonder that along with my over generous rounding, it might not have been in the first film. Grin
AliceMcK · 09/05/2021 18:28

I’d go back to her OP and say sorry, your only joking, he’s alive and well and living with Elvis.

ShagMeRiggins · 09/05/2021 18:28

picture. Eg. FM liked the audience in the background of shots, and not the stage, as they are integral to the whole event.

Without wishing to detail the thread, that’s a lovely anecdote to drop Standrewsschool. Reminds me of when Juergen Koop insisted that the Liverpool players praised their fans after an underwhelming 2-2 draw against the underwhelming West Brom—because the fans needed to be appreciated every single day, in the same way they appreciated the players.

Anyway, back on track here...

Spoilers were a subject in the Sunday Times feedback recently. Some readers complained that the Tuesday edition featured a photo of “H” from Line of Duty, the revelation of which had been broadcast on Sunday. Loads of complaints about how they were planning to watch the recording at various times later in the week.

I’m not sure these readers understand what a newspaper does.

musingloud · 09/05/2021 18:28

My bet is she genuinely doesn't know Freddie M was a real person and that everyone else watching the film knows he died ages ago, and that no-one else is watching this for the suspense of whether he lives and dies. You need to tell her!

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 09/05/2021 18:29

Ask her is she’s aware Diana is dead.

PowerhouseOfTheCell · 09/05/2021 18:29

This just gives me flashbacks of the Royle Family episode when everyone had to explain to Daves mum the Queen Mother had been dead 10+ years not just enjoying a quiet retirement Grin

StrapOnSallyChasedMeDownTheAli · 09/05/2021 18:30

Another one bites the dust but who wants to live forever anyway. 🤷‍♀️

musingloud · 09/05/2021 18:31

ps FM, and the whole of Queen, signed a record sleeve of a song of their's for my boyfriend's 18th birthday!

They kept my pen though. Grin

BlowDryRat · 09/05/2021 18:33

Please, please ask her how she's managed to keep his death a surprise for the past 30 years!

I’d been feeling a bit meh today till I read this thread. Please send her this 👆Also I want to know now if she realises that FM was a real person???
Serpenta · 09/05/2021 18:33

@NotExactlyHappyToHelp

She sounds like a complete knob but some people do have odd gaps in their knowledge.

My lovely and clever friend had no idea John Lennon was dead. It came up in conversation and she thought he just liked the quiet life Grin.

He actually says 'No, I am your father' (yes, I'm a geek).
