Is there something you want but just can’t bear to buy?

I’ve posted before about how I am a self confessed shopping addict. I’ve put myself on a semi ban, and I’m allowed to buy necessities for myself or replace makeup items that have ran out but I am not to buy things just because I want them. I have saved almost £1000 in a month, which is frightening! The big “f**k it” purchases (maybe £300) combined with impulsively buying makeup, a new top here and there, chocolate, extra luxuries in grocery shop REALLY mounted up. So last night (I had been drinking) I ALMOST fell into the trap and bought myself a very expensive pair of trainers. I didn’t give in and I still haven’t. The guilt of spoiling how well I’ve done and how much I’ve saved would stop me even enjoying them. I’ll just stick to admiring them from afar. Are there any items you lust after, and technically could afford, but just can’t justify buying?

@LindaEllen

Re the ghds.

I bought some and they are crap.

Scratchy and do not give the same finish as the ones my friend had 10+ yrs ago.

I've bought some 25 quid ones and they're so much better!

Zipozi ones, someone on here suggested them. They're not as slinky but they are so much better!

Cakeofdoom · 10/05/2021 22:43

I have a KitchenAid and a Ninja Foodi Air Fryer/pressure cooker and wouldn't be without either - the KitchenAid is used daily for my cake business and looking to get another.

I also have an Andrew Russell budget stand mixer but it isn't as robust as the KA but a good option for domestic use.

Rupertbeartrousers · 10/05/2021 22:44

Tooth whitening, repairing all the dents in my car.

thatsgotit · 10/05/2021 22:48

@Confusedandshaken

There is a beautiful Huda eyeshadow palette I would love but it costs £58 and I already have loads of beautiful eyeshadow palettes that I don't use. I was hoping adult DC might club together and buy it for Mother's Day but no such luck.
Mercury Retrograde, by any chance?

I have exactly the same issue with eyeshadow palettes, they're a real weakness for me and I've spent way too much on them. Trouble is, none of them really get the love they deserve as I just own too darn many!

I did hold out for ages against buying Urban Decay Naked Heat, really couldn't justify it when I already own so many, including two 'dupe' palettes... but recently I caved and bought it anyway. Oops. sheepish

Goldieloxx · 10/05/2021 22:52

IPhone, don't get why people spend so much on them and a flash car, I hate showy cars. All my spare money goes on the house and travel

Jaxhog · 10/05/2021 22:58

Tod's shoes. I mostly buy them at Bicester Villiage, but they are still eyewateringly expensive. But I really love them! I am currently limiting myself to one (or at most two) pairs a year.

Theydidntwin · 10/05/2021 22:59

@therocinante, put yourself on the Penhaligon’s mailing list. They frequently have offers - last week they had unboxed fragrances at a significant discount. They also have surprise gift sets. Although it doesn’t say online which fragrances are in them I rang my local store and asked. The assistant had to contact someone to find out, but she didn’t seem to mind doing that.

I think you get 10% off your first order, too. Also, remember to add a couple of free perfume samples.

While I think of it, they will send you a couple of samples for the cost of postage. You might need to go through the fragrance profiling service a couple of times for it to suggest Juniper Sling, though.

thenightsky · 10/05/2021 23:02

I got a big bottle of Penhaligan Bluebell for £50 through this on-line lady who is local to me...
If you are into craft of any description, look away now.

I have been drooling over this for two years now....
OMG! I want one! Or I did until I saw the price. Seriously?
bevelino · 10/05/2021 23:06

@sansou

@sansou

I would want to sleep for a hundred years at that price.

Dita73 · 10/05/2021 23:08

A Vivienne Westwood corset. I’ve wanted one since I was 16 but I just can’t justify it

catlovingdoctor · 10/05/2021 23:15

A ticket to my favourite show, which is playing soon and I want to see. A good seat is about £100! I can afford it but just can't bring myself to part with the money.

merlynred1 · 10/05/2021 23:23

@DailyMaui

Thank you for the suggestion, I’m going to give it a try. Looks like they’ve got some nice subtle shades so I won’t end up looking like a wotsit!

Vegiereggie · 10/05/2021 23:25

Queenpaw get the candle. I hate all scented candles apart from those and abalon ones. I get one each Christmas and it is such a treat to use.

notjaneausten · 10/05/2021 23:25

I thought wanted an ipad, until I bought one. Regretted it ever since.

Twofurrycats · 10/05/2021 23:30

Dubarry boots. Tom Ford oud perfume. Jo Malone candles. Mulberry handbag. LV never full.
I nearly bought a Mulberry bag as my 40th present to me. Bought some diamond earrings in Florence instead. And every time I wander through selfridges I have a spritz of the Tom Ford. I did buy the Jo Malone oud though .

Mamanyt · 10/05/2021 23:42

A Ninja Foodi XL. Does everything. Roasts, bakes, grills, air frys, dehydrates...SIGH...I'd never turn my oven on again!

MumW · 10/05/2021 23:43

Luxury yarn.

Officine Gullo officinegullo.com/en/og-professional-cooking-ranges/

Some Italian sports cars are cheaper!

BeaLola · 11/05/2021 00:29

@JamCrackers

There is ALWAYS a high end perfume on my wish list, but if I ‘treat myself’ to one, another just takes its place on my list...so I have to be REALLY strict with myself.

Currently I’m longing for a couple of the Chanel Exclusifs. I’m applying g for some getter paid jobs at the moment and have promised myself I’ll buy one IF I get one of them.

I have the Gardenia - they have gone up in price quite a bit in last couple of years

At the end of March when they did their Beauty weekend John Lewis had 20% off certain Chanel - I was surprised that the exclusives were included but I bought a bottle Blush
Worth looking out for in future

stopgap · 11/05/2021 00:30

Hermès handbag. Everything by Loro Piana, save for the loafers, on which I sometimes splurge.

groovergirl · 11/05/2021 00:35

Something gorgeous, such a skirt suit or flouncy dress, from the 1970s heyday of Yves Saint Laurent. YSL was my childhood crush, and I daydreamed about growing up and wearing his clothes, and possibly enticing him and making him wish he were straight.
Now that I WFH, however, I'd have nowhere to wear YSL. Maybe some designer leggings, then!

groovergirl · 11/05/2021 00:37

@notjaneausten Why do you regret your iPad?

ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 11/05/2021 00:42

I would be pleased to hear of your thoughts on for instance Goyard and Fairfax & Favor generally.

EmeraldShamrock · 11/05/2021 00:44

Eyebrows I'd love nice eye-brows micro blading they're €280 plus €100 top up it is something I can't justify.
I'm a spender too but trying to change my habits.
