Cutting grass at 8:30 on Sunday morning?

As a one off, because we have a bouncy castle coming, we are cutting the grass at 8:30 on a Sunday morning. Next door have just shouted out of their window. 🙈
AIBU? It’s not something we have ever done before or plan to repeat. I kind of think one off things you suck it up a bit? Same as the odd occasion their dog is barking outside my bedroom window at 11pm.

I've always left it until 9:00 on a Sunday but that said I am always awake at 6 so it wouldn't bother me if someone else did it.

RollinHyfa · 09/05/2021 10:00

I feel bad for your neighbours. They won't be able to nap later because of the noise from a bouncy castle. Even just your own DC are going to be (understandably) loud.

10am is the absolute minimum acceptable time for mowing lawns. Or DC playing out.

Sunday noise police sound fab.

No fires before 8pm and no plastics ever would be amazing.

midsomermurderess · 09/05/2021 10:01

It would have been more constructive to have gone over and talked to your neighbour, explaining why you did this and that it's a one off thing that start a thread here. Who cares what strangers are going to say, for pages and pages, when it doesn't affect them. Can't people live in real world anymore, or is the only thing that matters the validation of strangers? It's sad and creepy.

Wife2b · 09/05/2021 10:01

Sorry, making noise at that time on a Sunday morning is selfish. For some people a Sunday is the only day they can have a lie in. If I have to make noise I wouldn’t consider it any earlier than 10/11 on a Sunday.

Brefugee · 09/05/2021 10:01

also: if the dog barking annoyed you, why didn't you complain?

Sparklingbrook · 09/05/2021 10:02

@Lorw

If they are complaining about you cutting grass then they aren’t going to be too impressed with the noisy bouncy castle 😂
Yes, woken up by the lawn mower and a peaceful Sunday afternoon ruined by the loud hum of a bouncy castle motor and associated shrieking children. Nice!
JustJustWhy · 09/05/2021 10:03

I live in shitty suburbia. That's tame.

AlwaysLatte · 09/05/2021 10:03

We need to cut ours today but we always do it in the afternoon. It is much easier when it's dry!

cyclingmad · 09/05/2021 10:04

What yabu! Ever since I've known it, its always been no noisy gardening or DIY until after 10am on Sundays.

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 09/05/2021 10:04

I wouldn’t care about the grass cutting, but a bouncy castle...... I would want a heads up on.

Ever since you have known what? There is no law on the hours of grass cutting. Environmental health consider noise between 11am and 7am antisocial.
EmeraldShamrock · 09/05/2021 10:06

8.30 on a Sunday morning is early.
If they thought it was noise wait till the bouncy castle is full. Grin

JinglingHellsBells · 09/05/2021 10:06

11pm!

skybluee · 09/05/2021 10:06

I'd say after 9am is fine but 8:30am is pushing it and too early.

SoupDragon · 09/05/2021 10:06

Presumably because she is more tolerant than you and expected the same tolerance for a one of early mowing session.
Cam2020 · 09/05/2021 10:07

8:30 is fine! Lazy bastards!

JimBobNoJob · 09/05/2021 10:07

8.30 is not early

Who are all these people not up at that time?

Plenty of people for all sorts of reasons. Especially on a weekend. I have not had a full night of unbroken sleep for well over a week, today was my chance to stay in bed as long as I wanted.

Are you one of those people who think because you are up everyone else must be as well?

Fucking great!!!! I never have to do a thing again that's noisy if it's those times. Happy days!!!

Blueskytoday06 · 09/05/2021 10:08

I'd be slightly peeved but wouldn't say anything

ChloeCrocodile · 09/05/2021 10:08

I think 8am is reasonable for garden noise tbh. You can’t expect everyone else to avoid normal noises just because you’ve decided to stay in bed.

FWIW I love a lie in and I’m not even up yet. If it were reasonable to insist on outdoor silence during a lie in, my neighbours wouldn’t be allowed in their gardens until after midday Grin

Roadhouse111 · 09/05/2021 10:08

If this had been me I would have given them a heads up about it yesterday, but yeah I'd be absolutely raging if my neighbours did this. My old neighbours used to cut their grass at 10pm waking my little children, they never saw it as a problem, thank God we moved.

So no afternoon lawn mowing then?

NeedNewKnees · 09/05/2021 10:13

Before 10 on a Sunday is pretty inconsiderate. 8:30 is definitely thoughtless.

EasterIssland · 09/05/2021 10:14

Sunday is my resting day. I’d not complain but I’d hate you.

LINABE · 09/05/2021 10:14

@PaperDoilly

YABU I'd be pissed off if one of my neighbours started mowing the lawn at 8.30am on a Sunday (and think you were selfish twats).
You're nice.
