Cutting grass at 8:30 on Sunday morning?

As a one off, because we have a bouncy castle coming, we are cutting the grass at 8:30 on a Sunday morning. Next door have just shouted out of their window. 🙈
AIBU? It’s not something we have ever done before or plan to repeat. I kind of think one off things you suck it up a bit? Same as the odd occasion their dog is barking outside my bedroom window at 11pm.

Luckily all our neighbors must be early risers because all the lawn equipment (or snow blowers) are going well before 8:30.

TheJade · 10/05/2021 19:32

Blimey! They should try living on our street. I get woken up by all sorts of diy work on a Sunday.

You are not being unreasonable- don’t sweat it 😉

Its fine. so just ignore the complainers, they are everywhere.

UnluckyMe · 10/05/2021 19:58

Personally I wouldn't have done it at 8.30am on a Sunday (or any day really), but that is more me not being a morning person!

StoneofDestiny · 10/05/2021 20:01

I'm impressed with the hearing abilities on Mumsnet - hearing a lawnmower through double glazing (assuming most have it). Maybe im hearing impaired.

TwatWaffleTwinkleToes · 10/05/2021 20:01

It probably wouldn't bother me to hear it, but I wouldn't mow earlier than about 10am in case it disturbed neighbours.

Seriously1996 · 10/05/2021 20:07

My neighbour who is retired doesn’t care in the time or day . He mows his grass and does all sorts of extremely loud DIY regardless who he may be disturbing . Selfish git

Well noise travels differently depending on space, obstacles etc.

I can hear my neighbours conversation in their garden in my house word for word through my double glazing. Thats how loud they are.

I can hear mtly neighbour blowing his nose through our party wall even with my TV on.

Maybe your just lucky

I think you might be.
CrankyFrankie · 10/05/2021 20:18

Classic MN. I bet if you’d have said it was the other way around, and you’d just heckled a neighbour for mowing at 8:30, you’d have got a roasting. And probably been fat-and-lazy-shamed for good measure.

Bertiebiscuit · 10/05/2021 21:00

We have the right to expect a bit of peace and quiet on a Sunday morning - often the only lie in working people get so you were being thoughtless and selfish in my book - I would have been furious

sue69m · 10/05/2021 21:00

What if their lie in was a one off, could you not have cut the grass the day before??
I have a Bodge the Builder close to me and every weekend he's in his pissing shed from 8am making some old crap.. Just one lie in would be nice

Bekstar · 10/05/2021 23:11

Depends on the area and neighbours to be fair. Round our area it's a very religious Sunday quiet rules and there's no machinery, noise of any type on a Sunday unless you want the devil this trike you down dead. Altho not particularly religious I accept the rules and respect them. But it would depend on whether the area your in would normally accept such noises on a Sunday.

weaselish · 11/05/2021 07:39

Yanbu; 8.30 isn't early and most people only have the weekends to do gardening/diy. I think anytime after 8 is fine on Saturday or Sunday.

Cushionsnotpillows · 11/05/2021 09:51

@StoneofDestiny we have really good modern double glazing and dh and I can always hear neighbours lawnmowers. Behind us, across the street, a few doors down, all clear as a bell. And the jet washers too. If you can't, maybe it IS time for a hearing test. I mean that nicely, as I can't see how you wouldn't hear them IYSWIM.

AlandAnna · 11/05/2021 10:02

8.30 is fine!

MizMoonshine · 11/05/2021 10:06

@maggiesfarm

They make noise from about 7.

StoneofDestiny · 11/05/2021 23:23

True - my hearing is a tad impaired - but we are at a distance from neighbours, detached, big gardens etc. So - just thinking now - if electric cars are so quiet, why can't they make quiet lawnmowers?

Etinox · 14/05/2021 16:34

Heads up for the weekend mowers- it’s looking rainy over most of the country, I’m counting down to 5pm to stop work and get out there!

Bol**x to that!

a8mint · 14/05/2021 23:50

8.30 is fine on a sunday, I would not go earlier than 8 though
