Cutting grass at 8:30 on Sunday morning?

Thanksforthat123 · 09/05/2021 08:31

As a one off, because we have a bouncy castle coming, we are cutting the grass at 8:30 on a Sunday morning. Next door have just shouted out of their window. 🙈
AIBU? It’s not something we have ever done before or plan to repeat. I kind of think one off things you suck it up a bit? Same as the odd occasion their dog is barking outside my bedroom window at 11pm.

Hmmm...our neighbour was out cutting the grass at 8.20am in his pyjamas...now I’m worried we’ve got a sodding bouncy castle coming our way this afternoon!

sirfredfredgeorge · 09/05/2021 09:14

non-work day

Fuck off with your 9-5 monday to Friday privilege, every day is a work day for people, 8:30 is fine, better to avoid if you can, just like it's better to avoid cutting your grass at any time at all given how noisy it is, but there's nothing special about 8:30.

dreamingofsun · 09/05/2021 09:14

well dont complain when the barking dog at 11 becomes a nightly thing. if you cant show consideration towards your neighbours why should they?

PaperDoilly · 09/05/2021 09:15

YABU
I'd be pissed off if one of my neighbours started mowing the lawn at 8.30am on a Sunday (and think you were selfish twats).

WestendVBroadway · 09/05/2021 09:15

@DoodleLovin

I’d be annoyed. 8.30 is early on a non-work day. You could’ve cut your grass yesterday or during the week 🤷🏻‍♀️
A non work day? If you work shifts or unsocial hours no day is a non work day. My day off is Friday, I don't expect the world to keep quiet until 09:00 so I can have a lie in. My hubby likes a lie in on Sunday and would consider 09:30 to be a reasonable time to make noise. Some people may think 10:30 is too early. Everything is subjective. You clearly can't please everyone.
BigSandyBalls2015 · 09/05/2021 09:16

blimey some people are so uptight ... it's 8.30 not 5.30! Perfectly fine as a one off. Enjoy the sunshine and the bouncy castle OP

PrawnChair · 09/05/2021 09:16

YABU about the dog - he may be ferociously guarding your properties and you just don't know it Grin

YANBU about the grass cutting. 8.30 on a Sunday morning is fine , 8.30 on any morning is fine.

Lazierdays · 09/05/2021 09:17

It’s no mow May to help the wildlife Sad.

MintMatchmaker · 09/05/2021 09:19

Too early in a Sunday.

diamondpony80 · 09/05/2021 09:21

Yeah, I wouldn't on a Sunday, not that early. Probably 9.30 or 10 would be a more acceptable time and wouldn't rock the boat.

ALevelhelp · 09/05/2021 09:22

It wouldn't bother us , but then the only bedroom at the back of the house is home to our heaviest sleeper - 17 year old DS, who I'm sure would sleep through an earthquake Grin

If it was us mowing, I'd have sent a quick message the night before. I'm sure it would be fine though as both sides are early risers as they have young children. I still would have checked though..

Mydogisagentleman · 09/05/2021 09:22

Wouldn’t bother me in the slightest, to be fair I was up at 5.30.
On a different weekend when I am not working, it still wouldn’t bother me.
4.30 am is a different matter.
Enjoy your day

Roboticcarrot · 09/05/2021 09:23

Lmao at 'Mon to Fri privilege'

It is quite early for a Sunday, but as a one off meh. They'll enjoy the noise from the bouncy castle later I'm sure.

Hellodarknessmyoldpal · 09/05/2021 09:23

8.30 seems fine as a one off. Sunday isn't everyone's day off. Shouting out the window seems a bit much if this is a first 'offence'. Enjoy your party OP

ThisIsStartingToBoreMe · 09/05/2021 09:24

YABU - never mow your lawn before 9am

supermoonrising · 09/05/2021 09:25

I get up at seven. But it’s inconsiderate. Many people like to lie in on a Sunday so you’ve woken them up. It’s a bit like cutting the grass at 6am on a weekday. 9:30 would’ve been ok.

Itsanewdayforme · 09/05/2021 09:26

No i would find it rude. We are up early every morning for work and school and our Sunday mornings are the one chance of a lie in and since peace and quiet.

Mind you, our next door neighbours decided to power wash their entire garden ALL DAY on Easter Sunday 🤯🤯🤯🤯 which was worse.

Whythesadface · 09/05/2021 09:27

Lawn being mowed 😂.
Wait till they hear the kids screaming.
Sits back in chair to wait for your next visit from nextdoor.

Onthegrid · 09/05/2021 09:28

There is nothing wrong with 8:30 same as I can’t understand the need to keep Kids indoors until late morning.
It’s a gorgeous sunny day here and id much rather see everyone up and out enjoying themselves than stuck inside.
This is a nation that is becoming more unfit and obese year on year, laying in bed isn’t going to solve that.

Nogoodusername · 09/05/2021 09:28

You should have done it the day before. 8.30 is too early for a Sunday

cissyandbessy · 09/05/2021 09:29

Far to early on a Sunday. Not surprised neighbours shouted. I'd just view this as selfish and inconsiderate. How can they know it's a one off and I'm not sure that even matters tbh.

3scape · 09/05/2021 09:29

No Mow May and before 9.30 at the weekend? All for the sake of creating horrendous noise? Dick move of the week. Congratulations op.

PhilCornwall1 · 09/05/2021 09:30

Bouncy castle? I think they'll soon be more pissed off.

Mowing at 8:30am wouldn't bother me, as I'm up at stupid o'clock, but I'd want to be putting a hole in the bouncy castle.

Londongent · 09/05/2021 09:31

9am on a Saturday, 9:30-10am on a Sunday for garden noise, thems the rules

Buby51 · 09/05/2021 09:32

We had our neighbour strimming his grass (a very large and loud commercial sized petrol strimmer to add) last Sunday at 8am. We were up so it didn't really bother us but I'm sure many people don't feel the same. Could you have not done it yesterday or last evening? If I was your neighbour it wouldn't really bother me up but we try not to cut our grass until at least 10am at the weekends!
