Cutting grass at 8:30 on Sunday morning?

As a one off, because we have a bouncy castle coming, we are cutting the grass at 8:30 on a Sunday morning. Next door have just shouted out of their window. 🙈
AIBU? It’s not something we have ever done before or plan to repeat. I kind of think one off things you suck it up a bit? Same as the odd occasion their dog is barking outside my bedroom window at 11pm.

You’d hate it here, the village is dominated by early risers (we have a few farmers etc). A lot of people would have been up for hours by 8:30, and would think nothing of cutting the grass at 7am.

JimBobNoJob · 09/05/2021 09:33

Neighbours round here seem to think nothing of mowing the grass, doing diy (sawing, drilling etc) anywhere from 8 am onwards.
Annoying if I’m trying to have a lie in. I personally wouldn’t.

If you are in the uk, Is your grass not sodding wet? As most of us had persistent rain yesterday. If so, you’ll have grass everywhere including the bouncy castle, as wet grass sticks to everything.

MyGrassIsBrowner · 09/05/2021 09:35

All my neighbours are up and about pottering in their gardens well before 8:30am and no one bats an eyelid! I actually enjoy waking up to the sound of lawn mowers cause then I know it's going to be a nice day ahead!
Enjoy the bouncy castle OP! Can I come? Grin

rwalker · 09/05/2021 09:36

Rude unless it was knee high I'd of left it .

RolloTomassi · 09/05/2021 09:36

Noise before 9am at a weekend is unreasonable. On a Sunday you'd ideally wait until closer to 10. I wouldn't yell out the window but I'd be totally hacked off.

PurpleWh1teGreen · 09/05/2021 09:37

@TheQueef

It's too wet surely it'll just bend?
That’s what I was thinking too.
maddiemookins16mum · 09/05/2021 09:38

Ours is still wet.

LH1987 · 09/05/2021 09:38

I’d be annoyed, it’s very inconsiderate. However, they really shouldn’t yell out the window at you.

JimBobNoJob · 09/05/2021 09:38

@Lazierdays

It’s no mow May to help the wildlife Sad.
I didn’t know this!

My front grass desperately needs a haircut, it’s full of dandelions, this’ll give me a perfect excuse to leave it for a while!
I could do with one of those little wildlife signs that the council uses for their grass verges and roundabouts!

Coffeemakesmehappy · 09/05/2021 09:40

From my personal perspective, YANBU. I live in a group of 6 houses surrounded by crop fields so there’s regular farm machinery activity from very early to very late (depending on the time of year).

However as this is clearly not the norm where you live, I think it would have been smart to let them know yesterday what you planned to do which would probably have prevented the issue.

Nip round later, apologise, and let them know it won’t be happening regularly. These sort of things will fester if not dealt with promptly.

PhilCornwall1 · 09/05/2021 09:40

It’s no mow May to help the wildlife .

The way it's going with No this and No that month, no bugger will be doing anything soon.

Coldties · 09/05/2021 09:41

Before I had kids I would have been pissed off, I could sleep till 10am on weekends.

Having young kids if I was having a lie in I would be even more annoyed as it’s my only time to catch up on sleep, one day a week on the weekends.

8.30 is too early, piss poor preparation.

SoupDragon · 09/05/2021 09:43

I think it's a fine as a one off.

I'd be complaining about their dog barking now though.

Oysterbabe · 09/05/2021 09:43

So as pp noted, you posted at 8:31. What time did you start really?

Mellonsprite · 09/05/2021 09:43

I think it’s too early and a bit inconsiderate. I would say 10am is more usual for a Sunday. You posted at 8.31, so I’m guessing it was actually before 8.30?

SantiagoSky · 09/05/2021 09:45

In Switzerland there is a law prohibiting loud work such as mowing the lawn on Sundays. So you could do it on 8:30am every other day but not Sunday.

Oysterbabe · 09/05/2021 09:45

And as another pp noted, there's going to be wet grass covering the bouncy castle and everything else before long. Cutting it at this point was pretty silly.

Anjo2011 · 09/05/2021 09:49

You obviously know it’s too early or you wouldn’t have come here to validate you doing it.

Viviennemary · 09/05/2021 09:51

Its cheeky.

KatherineJaneway · 09/05/2021 09:52

I am well up by that time but I think they are out of order. As far as I am concerned, no lawn should be cut before 11am on a Sunday. They could have done it days ago.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 09/05/2021 09:54

it is crazy that people do not realise how they are inconsiderate and need to ask

AlwaysLatte · 09/05/2021 09:56

8.30 is a bit early on a Sunday. Anyway it's best to let the grass dry out a bit - it'll never be dry at that time.

Grohlsguitar · 09/05/2021 09:57

8:30 would be fine Monday to Friday, but during the weekend it's pretty inconsiderate.

Brefugee · 09/05/2021 09:57

I'd be ringing your doorbell every day for a month when i left for work at 5am if you were my neighbour. You are absolutely fucking unreasonable.

JinglingHellsBells · 09/05/2021 09:58

8.30 is not early.

Who are all these people not up at that time? Hmm
