Cutting grass at 8:30 on Sunday morning?

Thanksforthat123 · 09/05/2021 08:31

As a one off, because we have a bouncy castle coming, we are cutting the grass at 8:30 on a Sunday morning. Next door have just shouted out of their window. 🙈
AIBU? It’s not something we have ever done before or plan to repeat. I kind of think one off things you suck it up a bit? Same as the odd occasion their dog is barking outside my bedroom window at 11pm.

Make sure you repay them by shouting to tell them to shut their dog up.

DragonMuff · 09/05/2021 18:06

Even if people think 8:30am is too early - and I’m not sure it is - they are miserable arseholes to shout out of the window for a first offence.

Alwaysandforeverhere · 09/05/2021 18:18

8:30am if perfectly acceptable not everyday has the day off and not everyone has other days off.

My dh worked mon-sat so Sunday would be the only day this week we could really do things so if we wanted to pop to the shops and say have a gasp bbq and let the children play and relax we would cut the lawn first then go to the shops. As it stands we have that horrible nasty Astro turf that everyone on mn hates but I guess I’m not waking my neighbours up.... the front garden however is freshly growing new seeded lawn so I guess I’ll have to start cutting that soon.

@Flowersandjellybeans

I mean it’s light from about 5am now, 9am is hardly the crack of dawn!
What a stupid comment.

And FYI, you'd be feeling the wrath of my powerful hosepipe if you were my neighbour, and you even ATTEMPTED to stick your noisy lawnmower on at 5.am just because it's light. Hmm You would also be getting a warning letter from the council for mowing your lawn at 5am, because that's against the LAW to be a noise nuisance at that time.

@Countrygirl2021

8:30 is ok I would say. It's plenty of time for a lie in. Surely grown adults don't sleep in past 8:30. Only exception here is if they work shifts I would try and be considerate.

Another stupid comment. Who the F are you to say what time 'grown adults' are allowed to lie in til on a Sunday morning? Hmm Some people actually have jobs, and work for a living, and DESERVE a Sunday morning lie-in, without inconsiderate arseholes making a racket at 8.30am! Maybe when you actually get a job, maybe you won't be so rude and inconsiderate and selfish hmmmm? Hmm

Whythesadface · 09/05/2021 19:12

You go girl.
Enjoy your day...xx

SoupDragon · 09/05/2021 19:15

I can't find anything that says what the LAW states, but I am sure I read once that it's 10am on a Sunday

You can't find it because it isn't true.

EverythingRuined · 09/05/2021 19:18

It be too early for me but not outrageous. I'd have done it the day before or left it long.

Apologise to your neighbour and explain it was a one off and don't worry about it.
(However hi May have already done all that!!)
Hope the bouncy castle went down well

minniemomo · 09/05/2021 19:19

Anything before 10 on a Sunday is pretty unreasonable. Bouncy castles on a Sunday are also pretty unreasonable unless only for 2 hours

OhKnackers · 09/05/2021 19:23

I think it's fine. Mostly because no one ever cares about disturbing kids or babies with loud dogs, lawn mowing, etc usually in the later evening, so I don't tend to care either. I'll be considerate when others become considerate.

Namechangedforthistoday · 09/05/2021 19:24

@Rillington

That's really selfish on a Sunday.
This. Potentially the only opportunity someone has had to catchup on some sleep.
minniemomo · 09/05/2021 19:26

@Countrygirl2021 I can assure you that grown adults sleep in way past 8.30am. Especially on Sundays. Grin. Often we don't get up until 11 or so, has been known to be later. The advantage of kids being grown up (dd2 often has been out marathon training before we get up, lazy creatures that we are, other DD's sleep in)

motherloaded · 09/05/2021 19:34

None of my neighbours would dream of doing any gardening or any loud noise past 7pm, not everybody is inconsiderate.
chaosrabbitland · 09/05/2021 19:59

it wouldnt have bothered me at all . but then im up early anyway even on weekends , , even if i was still asleep the noise of it wouldnt have woken me i doubt as im a heavy sleeper , a lawnmower is not like a really unpleasant sound i dont think , its not like you had a chainsaw on the go

CheshireCats · 09/05/2021 20:00

Yabu. Very inconsiderate and antisocial.

chaosrabbitland · 09/05/2021 20:02

nope , im up at about 6 on a weekend and to me 9am is well getting on in the morning lol
MadelaineMaxwell · 09/05/2021 20:03

Wouldn’t bother me. Never understood people who think that other people are entitled to a lie in on a weekend. Anyone can have a lie in, close your windows or wear ear plugs if you are that precious about a weekend lie in. That said...I’ve worked nights for years so I try not to make too much noise until lunchtime any day of the week.

CombatBarbie · 09/05/2021 20:17

Meh can't say I'd get worked up over a lawnmower.... I'm sure half the UK is out mowing today after the awful. Weather we've had.

Our cock 🐓 has found his voice and his instincts are kicking in, he was crowing at 9am, he's gradually reduced to 7.30am before we let them out and I'm sure he will get earlier.... But I don't have a neighbour yet, property is empty. A barking dog at 11pm most nights would grate on me.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 09/05/2021 20:22

never understood the appeal of a lie-in. I just don't get it. I wouldn't normally start any noisy gardening or diy stuff before 9 on a Sunday but i wouldn't get worked up about others starting a bit earlier.

JeanneFrench · 09/05/2021 20:26

Ywbu and should apologise. 9am at the earliest on a Sunday. It's not any of your neighbours' faults that you didn't do it the day(s) before.

If your neighbour's dog annoys you, tell them, don't use it as an excuse for your own antisocial behaviour.

motherloaded · 09/05/2021 20:27

never understood the appeal of a lie-in. I just don't get it.

some people NEED sleep!

Ideasplease322 · 09/05/2021 20:28

@Thanksforthat123

Bloody hell, who knew so many people were having lovely lay ins. For info, I work full time/shift work/night shifts. He mows when I sleep- not his problem. Next door are retired and have every day to lay in 😂 (lucky bastards) We’ve been here years and they know this is not something we do, ever. But they called the building inspectors when we put up a shed so tbf I don’t think they are massively tolerant. We are having lovely parties, kids having an amazing time with rule of six on the bouncy castle, after lockdown such a treat.
Really. You didn’t know Some people like a lazy Sunday morning😂.

I love on mums net when people honestly believe every one’s has exactly the same experience and outlook as themselves and are amazed when someone suggestS otherwise.

Thatswatshesaid · 09/05/2021 20:31

If it was every Sunday I’d be annoyed but a one off is fine.

BackforGood · 09/05/2021 20:32

I think it is selfish.

I also think it strange, that if you only started mowing the lawn at 8.30am and were mowing long enough to disturb your neighbours, have them shout at you and that within those seconds thought 'I must post on MN'...... which does suggest you were probably out there even earlier than 8.30

optimisticpessimist01 · 09/05/2021 20:44

I might've whinged to myself a bit if I was having a lie in and I was woken up but if you're not a regular offender then it wouldn't bother me too much. Half 8 isn't a ridiculous time and I'd expect most people to be up by then anyway

Lincslady53 · 09/05/2021 20:52

Why should Sunday be different to any other day? A lot of people work on Sundays, if you work in retail, you will possibly start work at 10.00ish. So 8.30 is a good time for you to mow the lawn. The neighbour is out of order for complaining.
