Cutting grass at 8:30 on Sunday morning?

As a one off, because we have a bouncy castle coming, we are cutting the grass at 8:30 on a Sunday morning. Next door have just shouted out of their window. 🙈
AIBU? It’s not something we have ever done before or plan to repeat. I kind of think one off things you suck it up a bit? Same as the odd occasion their dog is barking outside my bedroom window at 11pm.

I think the Sunday argument is a bit last century when people worked Monday to Friday and nothing was open on a Sunday. My days off can be any day but wouldn’t kick off just because I want a lie in on a Tuesday. And 8.30 is not early for most folk around here. People are up walking dogs putting washing out or off to work.

AliceMcK · 09/05/2021 12:31

Of course it’s fine. Loads of people do these jobs on a Sunday morning.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 09/05/2021 12:33

Plenty of people making noise at 8.30 in the village where I live. Never heard anyone complain.

BadGherkin · 09/05/2021 12:37

My neighbours on one side thought it would be fabulous to mow their grass at 6am on Christmas Morning, the rear neighbours did theirs at 11am. And one neighbour has loads of manure delivered and spreads it on their garden beds every Easter, Christmas and other long weekends (and then fucks off to their holiday place for a week or 2 whilst we all are stuck with the stench).

8:30am on a Sunday as a once-off is fine!

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 09/05/2021 12:42

I like a lie but this wouldn’t bother me at all.

Butteredtoast55 · 09/05/2021 12:43

Absolutely raging
Selfish twats
I'd hate you

What on earth is wrong with the world when a lawn mower a bit early on Sunday morning gets this kind of response?

There’s a bouncy castle gone up across the road from me...are you on WP estate OP?

Perhaps next time you could pre-warn your neighbours. I do think 8:30 is a bit early for a Sunday

VeganVeal · 09/05/2021 13:10

I wouldnt worry, they'll soon forget it once there is a garden full of noisy brats jumping about on a bouncy castle all day

WestendVBroadway · 09/05/2021 13:12

So can everyone complaining that it is their right to have a lie in on Sundays make no noise as they get up for on a Friday. My Islamic and Baha I Faith friends are having a day of rest. Also my Jewish and Seventh-day Adventist friends would like a lie on Saturday.

Not sure your right to have a lie in on a Sunday is a religious requirement, in fact I imagine the only day a vicar has to get up early is a Sunday. However I'm more than happy to have a lie in on Friday, Saturday and Sunday if it keeps everyone happy

I’m guessing everyone who says yabu don’t have kids 😂 no garden noise before 11!? Kids would have been playing out a couple of hours by then. 830 is slightly early but it was a one off, miserable arsehole to complain about it.

I have 4 actually...

8:30 is just rude and inconsiderate.

Yes but Tarquin should be free to express his feelings at 7.00am by running around the garden shrieking, jumping endlessly on a trampoline then kicking a football against a fence for an hour

UrAWizHarry · 09/05/2021 13:57

It's totally fine. Sounds like some people on here spend their Sunday mornings screaming at anyone daring to breath before midday Grin

ForThePurposeOfTheTape · 09/05/2021 13:59

8:30 is early here as I have teens Grin but in the real world I think it's acceptable although if I was your neighbour then I'd be wondering why you couldn't have done it earlier eg yesterday

TeeBee · 09/05/2021 14:05

Wouldn't bother me. Even my teenagers are awake by 8.30.

They say they would scream at them, but how many really would. If they did, I expect many would be told to fuck off.
cyclingmad · 09/05/2021 14:09

What most people here who think its fine are missing the point that each local council has a set of noisy hours guidline in place so that as a society we have a fair way of ensuring people can have some reasonable quiet time whether ifs for lie in, studying or just whatever.

So if you local council says hey its fine to do diy and make x noise from 8.30 on a Sunday then great but if it doesn't don't be that that that thinks they above the rest of everyone else.

Daphnise · 09/05/2021 14:17

Selfish, and a bouncy castle is worse.

JinglingHellsBells · 09/05/2021 14:20

Saturday and Sunday are the days most people are off work and have a lie in

Really?
Given we have 7 day trading and a service industry I think this went out of the window 20 years ago. Sunday being a 'day of rest' is over.

The only restrictions where I live are no building/ construction work on Sundays.

If it bothers you so much, go to sleep with ear plugs.

TeeBee · 09/05/2021 14:21

Aren't nighttime noise restrictions in place 11pm-7am?

TeeBee · 09/05/2021 14:24

People who want silence though should live rurally. If you live by other people, you have to expect noise. I wfh and have to deal with neighbours banging bins all day long, working loudly in their garden, shouting, etc. But I choose to live here and don't think living my life trumps them living theirs. Nobody can expect silence during the day.

Rosebel · 09/05/2021 14:24

8:30 is too early and I have 3 children. Sunday is my only lie in day so yes I'd be annoyed.
Why does having a bouncy castle mean you have to cut the grass?
I wouldn't have said anything though just seethed quietly.

cakewench · 09/05/2021 14:33

It's definitely something to avoid, imo. I wouldn't complain, especially if it was a one off, but I wouldn't appreciate it either.
