Aibu to think Andy Burnham would be a brilliant choice for Labour leader? Competent, passionate, unifying, relatable

(and also rather attractive 🤭😜)

Am I being unreasonable?

It’s hard to say! Maybe his popularity stemmed from defying central government, but if he was the PM his USP would have deserted him, if that makes sense!

Maybe that defiance is what Labour needs someone with some guts and passion who isn’t scared of saying the wrong thing!

He has interesting associates thus he will be an eventual disaster.

who knows - i mean, he cant be worse than the last few can he, he can surely only be an improvement, and honestly, what has Labour got to lose by trying.

Attractive - is subjective of course, he absolutely does not do it for me ha ha.

Yes I would go for that option, I voted Keir Starmer in but only because the alternatives were worse, I have been very disappointed in him so far.

I heard that there was a scandal with the NHS or something that would come up ( don't know what though ) ? Plus he has tried three times already and been rejected and he said today that he wouldn't go for it again.
I've always liked him personally. He'd be a bit more down to earth than Sir Keir Starmer I think .

MN cannot seem to have a discussion about male politicians without resorting to discussing their appearance?

Why is this?

@LindainLockdown he’s just bloody sacked Angela Rayner too as party chair- such a disappointment

I think the fact you find him attractive might be addling your judgement of him. I wouldn't describe him as "competent", "passionate", "unifying", or "relatable" but I guess I don't find him attractive either.

Nah, not for me. As Labour leader OR as a bit of male totty.

Does nothing for me on either count.

@SonnyWinds he has just comprehensively won the Manchester election for mayor again with a landslide so I suspect a lot of other people view him as competent & unifying to be honest

He’s sacked her? Or the party?
I thin’ the idea that Starmer can’t be down to earth but Burnham is due to his accent is a bit daft to be honest. I like Burnham a lot, but he’s doing a good job and very useful where he is.

Well he didn't get many votes when he stood last time and he'd have to be an MP first.

@cardibach he sacked her! After saying he would take responsibility 🙄

We seem to be populated by a couple of generations who have grown up with celebrity TV, so they can only relate to 'celebrities', and not men and women with integrity and vision.

How do you know? It’s impossible to know who’s decision it was.

@eddiemairswife well, I think Corbyn had integrity and vision and I am not sure Starmer had it- certainly not vision anyway. There are plenty of inspiring women in the Labour Party but Starmer has just made one of them a massive scapegoat

@cardibach well, given that he said it was all on him- and that everyone else seems really shocked - I would say it’s him
