That women shouldn’t be forced into silence over males competing in female sports

NEW Zealand has selected a 43 yr old transwoman to represent them in the Olympics in the women’s weightlifting competition. Female athletes feel they are being forced into silence on the issue. How did it come to this?

It's a vote changer for me.

Never has a single issue been more important for so many.

I'm not convinced that the Tory party will be any better. I spoilt my ballot paper last week making the point that if my sex is not respected no one can respect my x.

I know many others did the same.

DrSbaitso · 10/05/2021 14:44

It's a vote changer for me too. A party that won't acknowledge or preserve my sex based rights and protections won't get my vote.

Me too.

I fear you're all right regarding Labour.

I suppose I was just trying to take it as a positive that they might be forced to revisit their stance.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 10/05/2021 15:54

The issue is not that trans matters are discussed too much on Mumsnet.

It's that there is no available platform for doing so elsewhere. Reddit has censored its Gender Critical discussion subs (although some on certain very unsavoury male predilections still remain). Try doing this on Twitter and you risk being doxed, deplatformed, fired from your profession or having certain very explicit and frightening threads of violence made against you.

The question is not what's wrong with this particular site, but rather, what's grievously amiss with the complete picture?

PPs have it in a nutshell. It's unmitigated, corrupt, dishonest cheating.

Perhaps that's why the formerly left-swinging vote in Hartlepool went so wrong for their normally bedrock parties.

Those who completely discount the sex-based rights of over half the populace should be made to feel it at the ballot box.

DrSbaitso · 10/05/2021 15:59

Do you think it was the trans issue that did that?

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 10/05/2021 16:00

I really wish that wasn't the case but I think male heterosexuality is going to be the sticking point at which people finally accept that the difference is real and matters. It's the benchmark for more or less everything else.

It already has been. Note the furore in response to the #SuperStraight campaign, and wasn't he only 16 or so? Interestingly, the one being trolled and who ended up receiving death threats was his bloody MOTHER, which I think says it all.

Seems the online campaign of a teenage kid still carried more weight - and got the lobbyists more mad - than any objections voiced by women.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 10/05/2021 16:02

@DrSbaitso

Do you think it was the trans issue that did that?
Realistically, no. But there are plenty of women online and elsewhere leaving those parties in droves and explaining precisely the reasons why - just as they explained them to Ben Beaumont-Thomas when they deserted the Guardian for the same reason.

It would be wonderful to think this cavalier disregard for our rights it played some part in Labour, Greens and the Lib Dems losing those votes.

ErrolTheDragon · 10/05/2021 17:29

@DrSbaitso

Do you think it was the trans issue that did that?
No, but 'the trans issue' is one facet of the Labour Party being woefully out of step with its former core, and seen as more pandering to what are characterised as 'metropolitan elites'.

Also this. Well said that woman.

"Sky News host Rita Panahi says it’s almost impossible to overstate how diabolically dumb Sarah Silverman’s rant was scolding people for saying women’s sport should be for women. “Imagine for a second that you're a female athlete, a weightlifter who has devoted your life to the sport, and then a former male weightlifter decides they're a woman and starts competing in the women's division,” Ms Panahi said"

DrSbaitso · 10/05/2021 17:52

Sarah Silverman, the comedienne? Was she being transphobic when she interviewed various female comics for a short film titled "Funny Women"?

Campervan69 · 10/05/2021 17:57

Clearly....

She did this ridiculous podcast the other day slagging off Kaitlin Jenner.

DrSbaitso · 10/05/2021 18:14

Can't watch it. "What about tall girls"....the stupidity, circularity and wilful ignorance is too painful.

Miss Piggy was in that short film. At the time I thought it was part of the joke - oh, it's as if Miss Piggy is a real woman, but of course everyone knows she's a puppet voiced by a man, haha! - but now I'm not so sure.

Campervan69 · 10/05/2021 18:29

I see the future for women as grim. Think of The Handmaid's Tale, maybe the reason so many women can't have children is because they are actually male. The female women subservient, forced into surrogacy whilst males rule and win everything.

purpleboy · 10/05/2021 19:31

This is so sad, but not unexpected at all. I hope those who pushed for this will one day hand their head in shame. It's a blatant disregard for fairness and safety in women's sports.

PermanentTemporary · 10/05/2021 19:57

I was saying on another thread that I did wonder if Silverman was being satirical.... you could read her bit that way. But I was assured that it's unlikely.

Wonder what would happen if I tried to publish an article about how I identify as a transwoman despite being 'cis'. 🤔

@littlepattilou
"As a previous poster said, the reason why many people in real life don't say much/anything, is because they get shut down by the ranty liberal left wokies.

And as a pp said, that is why the TORIES keep thrashing the arse off LABOUR. The wokies are shocked by this because all their wokie mates and their peeps on the twitter are all leftie liberals, and they can't fathom why the Tories keep winning."

That's part of the proplem though, because the leftie liberal politics that's banded about is not real liberalism. The wokeists have used liberalism as a vehicle to implement an ideology of social justice (collective justice) which is antithetical to liberalism, as liberalism is predicated on the notion of being an individual in a voluntary, civil society (see the philosophy of John Locke).

It is far more beneficial to live in a society that advocates on behalf of the individual, than a society that advocates on behalf of the collective. Wokeism seeks to administer collective justice, which is why this sitaution has been allowed to come about.
It's the slow corrosion of debate and free speech, that has infiltrated everyones lives and people are terrified to speak against them, the wokeist thought process seems to be 'We are the loudest, so we must be right'. Drives me nuts. It's worrying because it's not just trans activism where this is happening, it's everything.

Loved this too "I mean FFS, just this past week, I heard someone on twitter say 'pregnant people!' Oh so you mean WOMEN?! hmm
This is right up there with 'people who menstruate.' ONLY WOMEN MENSTRUATE FFS!"
My favourite new term is 'Chestfeeding', I mean seriously, WTF?!
We can't have anything.

I think most reasonable minded people don't have any issues with trans people, you are who you are after all, but when a minorty highjack something and force it on the world they are making a rod for their own backs. I know a couple of trans people, and they are more annoyed that these are the people that have elected themsleves the the people who should be listened to on these issues. Most just want to live their life in peace and can't stand what's happening.

I thoroughly agree. The Daily Mail variety of Tory-Voter is rubbing its hands together shouting that the left is eating itself.

Except - it isn't. Trans activism is Male Rights Activism: the sort of extreme women-hating misogyny that's right up there alongside Incels (were that not the case, why the frequent threats of kerb-stomping or worse)? This isn't any form of leftism I've ever encountered in my life: this is the ground of the far right. And as DARVO is their stock-in-trade, it surprises me not one bit that the ones aligning gender critical feminism with fascism, the US Christian right, anti-abortion (feminists?) and marginalization of LGB people, who they insist these evil persecutors are coming for next.

Easy tactic: point the finger at other people and make out they are YOU. (And that isn't new: the far left and far right have been doing it for generations).

The real irony amid all this is that the Conservatives have never and will never be the friend of women, but are now the only party even paying lip-service to our sex-based rights.

As they say, to every action is an equal and opposite reaction.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 23/05/2021 08:17

This article is amazing. A former trans athlete claims that the tests they underwent before being allowed to compete were 'violations' and that 'the Olympics' are not

Transgender rules changed in 2015 and Worley says progress has been made to ensure that Hubbard is not subjected to the same "violations" she suffered.

But Worley worries there will be serious health and wellbeing consequences for Hubbard in meeting the anti-doping requirements at these games. The gist seems to be that this person believes that the testosterone requirements are too rigid.

"Worley explains to The Detail why she believes the Olympics are not ready for Hubbard. She thinks the system is still failing her, due to the strict testosterone limits which put Hubbard's health at risk.

"It’s like taking the gas out of the car," says Worley. "When you lose testosterone in your physiology it’s like the car starts to shake when you take the petrol out of it. Certain functions of the body decrease or even stop functioning altogether."

Further,

" "Everybody needs hormones, it’s just that we need different types of hormones depending on chromosome type you are. And that's the problem, we've tried to homogenise gender, and we've tried to compare apples with oranges.

She says the thinking was that "if you lower an athlete's testosterone levels (of someone) who was XY chromosome that somehow that is going to match somebody who is XX. No, you're making that XY chromosome person completely unwell, long term in sport and to end of life, thinking that's going to somehow assimilate to somebody who is XX chromosome (who doesn't need testosterone to stay well)."

So there are sex-based biological differences and when it comes to those born as males needing testosterone these need to be acknowledged ... but when it comes to the advantages in weight-lifting that males have over females they need to be ignored.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 23/05/2021 08:21

And I forgot to finish a sentence ...

This article is amazing. A former trans athlete claims that the tests they underwent before being allowed to compete were 'violations' and that 'the Olympics' are not yet set up to fully recognise the needs of trans athletes (competing in women's events).
