I don't get it. Its depressing. We deserve better than this surely? Why give them the green light? What kind of society do we want? One where liars get our approval?

@SinkGirl

The poll results don’t surprise me at all, sadly.

Plenty of people here who are not those most severely impacted by the disgraceful policies implemented by this government, so don’t care enough.

I would have thought that the exposé of the £150bn of public money wasted on croneyism during COVID would have been sufficient, but too many just don’t care. They also don’t seem to care about the tens of thousands of avoidable deaths thanks to the poor response early in the pandemic and the shambolic situation aren’t Christmas.

All this “oh well the opposition is awful” - all a load of absolute crap, pushed by a media run by those benefitting most from tory policies. What is it that would be so terrible - so much worse than what we have now - if Labour were elected? Keir Starmer isn’t my ideal PM, and Corbyn would not have been either, but I’d take either over what we have now. Our politics are so skewed to the right that some people genuinely believe that Labour represent hard left ideas even when what they’re proposing is slightly left of centre.

We have so many ridiculous situations in this country, like rail companies - every single rail company in the UK has a European national railway as a large shareholder. The insane costs of our privatised system are subsidising nationalised railways around Europe. It’s an embarrassment.

I will never cease to be amazed what these people are getting away with, and the number of people that just don’t care.

And to put this in context, I would personally be financially worse off under a Labour government too. No doubt I would pay more tax, but would do so happily for better funded public services. I am not amongst those groups who are the most severely affected either, yet I still care enough to want this government out. I have two disabled children, I am appalled daily at the horrors faced by disabled people and their carers in this country. I am disgusted by the way we as a society treat our most vulnerable, and by the deliberate underfunding of the NHS. After years of “no magic money tree” mockery, the behaviour of this government over the past year shows just how much money they have to throw at shit that doesn’t even work, if it’s the right people involved.

And who will have to pay to get us back to a stable financial position? There’ll be lots of talk about how we all need to tighten our belts further, while those who’ve profited most during the pandemic will still get away with murder in terms of taxation (not surprising when you let the biggest corporations help to write your tax law).

I can’t get my head round it at all, it’s beyond depressing.

This, over and over again. I would be financially worse off under labour too, but if it meant a better funding of the NHS, preventing chain academies and better welfare support for those that need, I don't give a toss. One minute they can't afford to feed starving kids, the next its £200 million pounds for a new boat with Prince Philips name on. I don't know how much longer people can seriously pretend this Government is acting in the best interest of the people of this country.

@Puttingouthefirewithgasoline

I also switch off when people blame others voting habits on the media
The billion pound advertising industry must be wasting their money then.

Nobody is immune to the messages we are bombarded with in this day and age.

Hotankles · 06/05/2021 16:52
@Hotankles so why would you vote conservative? Because of one issue?
If you dont understand that now by reading the many many post explaining by myself and others it there is no point in repeating myself as your not listening.

the80sweregreat · 06/05/2021 16:54

My son was ranting about the Prince Phillip boat yesterday. I m shocked if they do this ( but not surprised if they do )
Considering that Corbyn was ridiculed for suggesting free broadband 18 months ago and now oodles can go on this and a new media room and all the other things they have paid out for , it does seem a kick in the teeth.
People will just shrug though..

AlmostSummer21 · 06/05/2021 16:56

@Christmasfairy2020

So if labour had got in. We would be having a second eu referendum on top of covid. Prob not have many vaccinated ike the eu.

Universal credit would have been scrapped so no money for furlough as they was also paying for all university students fees? Need I go on.

Probably

You've only just scraped the surface! People need to be reminded about the rest of it!!

Puttingouthefirewithgasoline · 06/05/2021 16:59

I'm afraid it didn't, only Towards the end of the long tenure when brown did tax credits did things ease, the point is, labour who fully admitted failing on this, hence the documentary, are not, are not i repeat, the magic bullet.

Puttingouthefirewithgasoline · 06/05/2021 17:00
 • oh gosh! Imagine being shackled to the eu vaccine scheme on top of our other troubles.
the80sweregreat · 06/05/2021 17:01

Why wouldn't Labour have had the vaccines rolled out ? Who knows what they would have done ? Nobody does.
200 mill would go a long way towards scrapping Uni debts rather than a prince Phillip boat ! ( not to mention the media room make over costing loads )

Puttingouthefirewithgasoline · 06/05/2021 17:02

Op, it's patronising and short sighted however to blame people for voting how they do on the "media".

It's part of a picture but absolutely not the entire picture and unfortunately, and especially on the left they tend to treat Joe public like fools who only know about their own lives and what's going on via a paper.

This is not the case and why they won't win elections...

fiheka · 06/05/2021 17:04

So many lies about Labour.
No one was talking about scrapping welfare benefits. And the vaccine has been delivered by the NHS. The same NHS the Conservatives have starved of money.

fiheka · 06/05/2021 17:04

But plenty of money for Boris Johnson's mates.

WhiskyIrnBru · 06/05/2021 17:05

@Doomsdayiscoming

I’ve always thought Johnson was a stand up bloke. Wouldn’t trust him with my wife, mind.

But yeah, what does that matter? Sure he has to remember a lot of Birthdays, but Moonpig has handy reminders these days.

He’s levelling up the country. Soon the South will be just as shit as the North. Give him a break!

Absolutely spot on.
the80sweregreat · 06/05/2021 17:06

@fiheka

But plenty of money for Boris Johnson's mates.
Exactly ! But people just shrug as they like the Tories. It's sad but true.
Puttingouthefirewithgasoline · 06/05/2021 17:08

Babble, I'm not stating anything other than labour's record.

CirclesWithinCircles · 06/05/2021 17:08

I actually despair that some people cannot respect other peoples' democratic choice of whom to vote for, and try to influence the easily led.

It is literally sickening to see these sort of posts and the typical exaggerated yet stereotyped emotive claims that follow them.

fiheka · 06/05/2021 17:08

I do not understand how people can justify voting for someone right now who is giving billions to his mates from the public purse, and justifying it by looking at what happened 20 or 30 years ago in a previous leader.

The corruption is happening now. Billions from our taxes have been given to our Prime Ministers friends. Do you really not care about that? Does it not matter?

And if you do not care, I predict he will give away billions more.

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind · 06/05/2021 17:09

That truly is awful about the Prince Philip boat, and I honestly don't know how they can justify it at any time, never mind atm, when they've just decimated the foreign aid budget too.

I wont vote Tory, this kind of thing is one of the prime reasons why, but I still cannot give my vote to Labour who can't even be called an 'opposition' any more. They've been hopeless. I can't vote for them whilst they are happy to take away women's sex based rights, when they call Woman's Place a hate group and throw women out of the party for stating that biological sex is a thing.

So as it stands I cannot vote at all.

Hotankles · 06/05/2021 17:11

@fiheka

So many lies about Labour. No one was talking about scrapping welfare benefits. And the vaccine has been delivered by the NHS. The same NHS the Conservatives have starved of money.
Am I lying about Labour expelling women members and telling us they didn’t want Transphobic people in their party because we questioned their policies and representatives?

They told us to leave. What do you expect?

fiheka · 06/05/2021 17:12

@Hotankles I do not understand voting for a misogynist racist corrupt Prime Minister because of this one issue.

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind · 06/05/2021 17:15
@Hotankles I do not understand voting for a misogynist racist corrupt Prime Minister because of this one issue.
@fiheka do you actually understand that when you vote in a GE, it's for a local MP, and not Boris? My friend voted Tory in the last GE because their local MP is fantastic and done really good things in the area she lives.

Hotankles · 06/05/2021 17:15
@Hotankles I do not understand voting for a misogynist racist corrupt Prime Minister because of this one issue.
You probably never will then

Hotankles · 06/05/2021 17:17
@Hotankles I do not understand voting for a misogynist racist corrupt Prime Minister because of this one issue.
And tbf being told to get out of a party is a pretty big issue. They sent thousands of women away.

No one to blame apart from themselves.

digginthedancingqueen · 06/05/2021 17:21

@Veryverycalmnow

Haha, as if the only reason people could possibly believe the Tory party are awful is because they're 'Labour HQ'... Have people seen how these idiots blundered through the early stages of the pandemic, causing hundred thousand unnecessary deaths? They don't care about ordinary people. They never have. People are being lied to on a massive scale and somehow duped by people with ONLY the best interests of the billionaires (that keep them in power) at heart. Unfortunately money is so powerful that it comes before truth and they own the media too. It's so depressing because I know that many people who have been REALLY badly affected by this government and their shocking decisions will believe the bullshit and vote Tory time and time again. For those saying it's about choice, have a real think a out mainstream news for a moment. People believe what they hear. It's not their fault. Who owns the press? I don't believe it's giving people a choice. It is lying to them.
Couldn't have put it better myself. Until the billionaire rightwing media barons stop controlling 80% of the narrative then we will be forever governed by these despicable, corrupt Tories. And it's not just newspapers, on our local Facebook groups the admin are mainly Tory councilors/ fans and as a result the groups' posts are filtered accordingly. I would imagine this is happening across the country too, it won't just be a one-off where I live. It's depressing, makes me want to emigrate.
DHdweller · 06/05/2021 17:25

They’ve got my vote

DdraigGoch · 06/05/2021 17:30
@StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind I would settle for having any government that is not corrupt.
How many centuries are you prepared to wait for one to come along? We live in the real world. No country is completely devoid of corruption, though the UK is (at 11th out of 179) one of the better countries (Denmark and NZ are top).
