AIBU?

To think that Conservatives don't actually care about 'red wall' voters beyond getting their vote

But people who live there and are going to be voting Conservative obviously do feel that they are the best people to represent them. Very interested to hear from people who live in red wall areas. AIBU?

YABU = Conservatives actually do care about these people now

YANBU = Conservatives just trying to get the votes and seats

We've always been a country where if you must lose then do it with grace and humility. That also applies to winning. I find the large inflatable Boris the Conservatives have out up outside the count (not the party office, the count) in Hartlepool utterly distasteful.

Crowing, gloating...is not how we do things in this country.

Do you find these images in London equally distasteful and not how we do things in this country?

Labour only held it in 2019 because the brexit vote was split.

While that's true, that doesn't explain why the Labour vote has fallen to half its 2019 number.

Hmmm, I think if you look at the make up of the "Hartlepool Wombles" you'll find they are very much Conservative supporters and once again it's all about the headlines, the cameras are at the count

The Hartlepool Womble quoted claims to be apolitical and didn't vote. There are only 20 in the group and they appear to be business people. Do you know them all, are they Tory voters? You are right it's all about the headlines as the nature of the other inflatables is not mentioned anywhere.

@StoneofDestiny

Tories care nothing for the 'red wall' voters to voted for them. Frankly neither do I having watched this governments performance, lying and Covid mis management. They got what they voted for - sadly the rest of us did too.

If Labour had won the last GE it would be Jeremy C and his band in power now. Maybe, just maybe they might have handled the lockdown better, but I seriously doubt it.

The idea of Labour in charge if commissioning vaccines and organising the roll out makes me shudder. They would have dithered and procrastinated and probably gone with Europe in the end. What a disaster that would have been.

The Conservatives have been very fortunate here. The vaccine roll out, the way Europe has behaved, even the French/Jersey fishing thing has made them look more appealing to the general public. Not to mention the trans rights issue.

In my opinion politics needs a complete overhaul. The Conservatives need to stop with the cronyism etc and I would like a new leader. Labour need to stop being an absolute joke.

That inflatable is enough to give you nightmares.

Labour did not and dors not value the traditional values of those who used to vote for them and who now have moved away. Does the conservative party give them what they want. yes, the evidence shows it. If it had just been a one off protest in december 2020 labour would have held hartlepool.

A labour government would not have handled covid any better, would not be negotiating with meaning for outside brexit deals and would probably have given away our vaccines to the third world.

I agree with every word of this.

@MissAmandaLa1kes what are those values?

It's a genuine question, I'm absolutely not having any sort of dig.

We're hearing so much about the (predominantly Northern) working class not aligning with Labour etc from the media this morning. Everyone can articulate what they aren't (woke etc) but I'm not hearing anyone expressing what they they positively are.

I'm not even sure "the working class" as the media portrays them or the working class of the 20th Century exist anymore

I think it is less about aligning of values and more about feeling that Labour don't actually care about them.

Flumpaphone One of my values, and one that I will never give up, is Womans rights. I hope that answers your question and gives you an idea why I cannot align myself with the Labour party anymore.

Starmer's reaction:

I will change the things that need changing and that is the change that I will bring about

Well, that's that sorted then.

Seeing the ludicrous circus surrounding Keir's Cabinet changes, all I can say is Good luck with that. The Labour Party have managed to become even more unelectable within the last 48 hours than they were before.
