Mridhul Wadhwa has just been appointed CEO of Edinburgh Rape Crisis. The job was advertised as for women only. Mridhul is a transwoman (born male) without a Gender Recognition Certificate.

AIBU to think that women survivors of rape and sexual violence should be able to have a female only space?

The facts of life as I understand them are the ones I was taught in GCSE and then Alevel biology. Are you saying my teachers and text books got it wrong?

Do you think 12 year old me should have allowed a trans woman/man to examine and counsel me following the sexual abuse I suffered as a child? Despite the fact I was traumatised and scared of most men?

Most rape crisis centres in Scotland (I can't comment about elsewhere, as I don't know) deal with victims of sexual assault and violence, regardless of gender. Most aren't women-only spaces.

How so? Don't just spout crap slogans, no one is convinced. What is a woman? What is a person identifying as when they say they identify as a woman? Where did this mysterious woman concept spring from that some humans have?

So according to Kate there is no difference between women and transwomen at all. We are exactly the same in every way.

Also according to Kate, any man who identifies as a woman is one because all it takes to be a woman is to identify as one.

One wonders if Kate knows how children are made?

A trans woman is born a woman.

Those without penises can rape anyone- if you don't consent to sex before or during, then it is rape. A very plain concept that we surely can all understand.

I'm very sorry you experienced that. I'm sure if you felt uncomfortable speaking to or being examined by a counsellor you'd be offered another, or offered a chaperone. When I went through counselling after my abuse as a child, I asked for a different counsellor.

Sorry, I think you seem to have misread the article. A woman has been appointed for the role of CEO. Hence why women and children are still safe in her presence.

But not necessarily comfortable, or able to receive the rape support that they desperately need.

Nor, in the future, able to have other single sex services available to them, because all of those have been expanded to include biological males.

Nor, able to trust in anyone at a time they are most vulnerable, because people can lie to get a job to work with them.

Bluster about what nonsense we think, by all means. But you haven't provided anything to back up your own view, so I'll take it with a truckload of salt.

You can’t compare the teeny tiny subset of men that call themselves transwomen to an entire sex of humans: women.

The actual numbers are minuscule compared to the numbers of women assaulted by men every week.
