Honestly it must he a total head nip being young these days. 19 yr olds telling us not to body shame then appearing in vogue in a corset. But said 19 yr old being an expert in telling us how to feel, and of course that stupid trendy word 'empowerment ' used as much as possible. Maybe it was the same in my day, but then social media wasnt about to give eedgits a platform to be an expert on everything. Pop stars always got too much attention, but now with sm it must be increased tenfold.
Thank fuck I'm old and middle aged.

OP posts:

@MrsIsobelCrawley

TheHoneyBadger, you either have difficulties in comprehension or you need to re-read the OP.
Can you quote any of the nasty comments? I haven’t seen any.

A French politician was dating a 13 year old.

Who was that? Shock

I think its meant to be president macron, but it's the other way round, he was young 15 and his wife was 40 (ish) when they met.
ForwardRanger · 03/05/2021 23:46

What year was that? I was a teenager when Bill Wyman went out with 15/4 year old Mandy Smith.

Mandy Smith was 12 when she met Bill WYman and officially dating at 13. The man is grotesque.

ForwardRanger · 03/05/2021 23:50

It's amazing that ssd purports to have anything of value to say about BE, an artist whose work and background she is clearly unfamiliar with. The OP is nothing more than a hateful swipe at an immensely talented artist, it is typical of social media bullying and just really disappointing for its sheer nastiness, ignorance and dismissive tone.

Tunnocksmallow · 03/05/2021 23:55

Ah yes, the old anyone under 25 cannot possibly have any kind of valid opinion that would be worth listening too rant.
It’s not like anybody of that age could possibly have any life experience of valid feelings to be able to back these opinions up is it? Hmm

eechypeechy · 04/05/2021 01:34

Her whole message is about how SHE'S in control of her body and her image - she wears baggy clothes because she didn't want to become famous, as someone who started in the music business so young, for her body.

On one of her recent tours, the opening video was a video of her, talking about how her body was hers and SHE gets to decide when, and if, people get to see it.

I personally think she's an incredible role model for youngsters these days - you want to wear baggy clothes and be known for that? Great. You want to change your entire image and show more of your body? Great. It's nobody but her business, and she's always spoken very frankly about how she has total autonomy over any photo shoots she participates in - otherwise, she doesn't do them. Reel your neck in, OP

Pyewackect · 04/05/2021 01:50

You know everything at that age. It’s only when you get older you realise you knew fuck all.

doghairismyglitter · 04/05/2021 11:42

Couldn’t care less what she’s wearing, but didn’t agree with the label of role model when she publicly paid tribute to XXXtenacion tbh

murbblurb · 04/05/2021 13:08

If she was actually wanting to send a message about body image, she wouldn't have taken the Vogue money. It is one of the evil publications designed to make women feel really bad about themselves.

She dressed up in a comedy outfit and hopefully got paid lots for it. Fine, but comedy clothes get laughed at.

MintyMabel · 04/05/2021 13:27

that stupid trendy word 'empowerment '

Yes, and it is depressing how being “empowered” seems to mean “wearing skimpy clothing” when it comes to women.

I’ve yet to see a young male pop star being “empowered” and having to dress in his undies as a marketing ploy.

If we want to empower young girls, surely the best message is her original stance of keeping covered up and letting your talent speak for itself. That’s how male pop stars are treated.

What was comedy about it?

You have seen the pictures?

GiveMeTulipsfromAmsterdam · 04/05/2021 14:43

I don't really get why so many young female singers need to wear corset and stockings ... I suppose it gets in the papers, news, social media, attention.... let your music talk for you not your underwear

Yes this....

It appears to many young girls being 'empowered' means taking your clothes off... girl power seemed to mean similar.... it's really odd

.... yes of course I have. Don't see anything funny about them.

I love Christina Aguilera and that phase she went through

What phase.?

Unlike back in the day when we had Madonna.

Yes, Madonna wore risqué outfits from the get-go, but there was no doubt that she was an extremely strong woman who was very much in control of her image. I don’t see why some posters think you can’t be both?

BorderlineHappy · 04/05/2021 23:16

@lllllllllll exactly.

Gilead · 04/05/2021 23:22

What a bunch of judgemental old biddies!

BorderlineHappy · 04/05/2021 23:58

Madonna is empowered and she's the original Girl Power.
She done it on all her own terms.

What an appropriate user name you have! I agree though, nobody tells Madonna what to do.

I'm presuming Billie just wanted to try out this new look because she just felt like it.

Vogue offered to collaborate with her and organised the custom made fittings and shoot because it's interesting and has elicited a response such as this thread.

It's such a leap from her usual style so I found it quite fascinating actually and properly zoomed in on her outfits. I saw it as an expression of art / design / fashion or however you'd like to describe it.

Moonwhite · 05/05/2021 01:32

I thought her comment was a bit weak. "If I'm a hoe for taking my clothes off, fine I'm a hoe." How about you're not a hoe, you're a young person who is within her rights to experiment with how she wants to look?

But the tabloids getting all frothy about it is gross and predictable. The usual undertone of "Look lads, teenage tits!" We haven't moved on that far from the Charlotte Church 'Countdown to 18'.
