Honestly it must he a total head nip being young these days. 19 yr olds telling us not to body shame then appearing in vogue in a corset. But said 19 yr old being an expert in telling us how to feel, and of course that stupid trendy word 'empowerment ' used as much as possible. Maybe it was the same in my day, but then social media wasnt about to give eedgits a platform to be an expert on everything. Pop stars always got too much attention, but now with sm it must be increased tenfold.
Thank fuck I'm old and middle aged.

@Visionoffspring

I think there’s a lot of overthinking going on. If she wants to carry on being a famous musician she has to be noticed either by writing/performing a new good song, or if there’s nowt in the tank, do something else controversial enough to keep her in the public eye until she comes up with a song. I’m guessing for her this was the relatively easy something else.

No judgment I think most would, but all the word salad in the world isn’t really why, it’s always fame and money.

Eh? She’s just had a major hit with a Bond theme that’s taken her career to a whole new level.

Indeed I suspect that’s the problem. Up til now Billie was a teen girl thing. But with the Bond theme, people in the industry could see could be huge. Hence the porn reboot.

@TheHoneyBadger

Honestly though what the hell has happened if people genuinely believe it's empowering to be photographed in your underwear? And if young women think they're being feminists by calling people middle aged jealous cows?

Apparently now it's empowering to be spat on and choked, to chop your healthy breasts off and destroy your health with testosterone, to be a 'sex worker', etc. We have entered the twilight zone.

@TheHoneyBadger I agree with your post entirely. Twilight zone indeed.
crystaltips98 · 03/05/2021 15:46

Same old formula. Young fresh sassy teen. So i think at last someone refreshing. Then a couple of albums in their clothes fall off. I get disapointed everytime.

InTheMiddle23 · 03/05/2021 15:48

And always in line with a new album

ssd · 03/05/2021 15:52

Ahhh...now it makes sense

I know the thread has moved on but still..

Yes she's a 19 yo.

A 19 yo with a neurological disorder.
A 19 yo who suffered from depression and night terror for years.
A 19 yo who was often body shamed,called fat, mum bod etc.
A 19 yo who even when she meticulously hid her body still had it commented on and was shamed for it.
A 19 yo that when she wore something normal like a bikini on holiday or a form fitting vest was met with outrage for selling out or negative comments about her body.
A 19 yo that literally can't wear normal clothes without backlash.
A 19 yo that was put in a box(even if it was by herself) and now adults can't cope with her breaking out.
A 19 yo that was abused (in some form as there aren't any details which is fair enough) as a minor.
A 19 yo that's possibly following a path that many women who were abused did.

A 19 yo that has enough shit to deal with , and I'd expect grown ass women to give her the time and space to grow ,heal ,find herself and come to the same realisations we came to with the benefit of age and experience. I'm more than willing to give her the benefit of the doubt and not giving up on her yet.

Or ofc you can just dismiss it all as another boring, predictable sell out eejit. Because boobs.

How the hell has feminism 'evolved' into that? It's too depressing for words.

@AccidentallyOnPurpose

A 19 year old, now being restyled by the £4 billion a year music industry, 70% of whose workers are male, because they can see there are megabucks to be made out of her.

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 03/05/2021 15:59

Oh shut up you miserable old fart

Was that aimed at anyone in particular? Confused

InTheMiddle23 · 03/05/2021 16:00

An adult who's not even trusted to buy alcohol in America. She's almost being described as quite vulnerable. The whole thing is uncomfortable.

Yes . Sadly what I believe to be her own way of dealing with her issues(like i said common in victims of abuse) plays right into the hands of the men involved in making money off her. What is a natural and normal progression and experimentation can easily be exploited and even encouraged. "Take back control ,darling".

But no one is denigrating the industry or the men. No. The anger,disappointment,disapproval and disdain is all aimed at her. The name calling. The expectations. The responsibility . That's what bothers me.

youvegottenminuteslynn · 03/05/2021 16:07

@BorderlineHappy

Are we going to get a sexy pic of ed sheeran next

Thats an oxymoron.

What a spiteful thing to say.

Well I am. And I’ve characterized disapproval as victim-blaming.

How many young women must follow this trajectory before people twig: it’s not her it’s them.

Well no one is trusted to buy kinder eggs there, so I don't think that's they are the best to compare. 🙈
Hyperfish101 · 03/05/2021 16:20

How depressing that talented female musicians still have to take off their clothes. Disappointing and predictable.

Who stands to gain....the designers, vogue, her record company.... the pervs obsessing about her on the internet.. men.

We're in agreement then.

I'm not necessarily defending her "choices" or outfits, but I am defending HER.

And it's sad that it's needed.

@AccidentallyOnPurpose
Victim Bingo. I call house. Meanwhile I know of women with kids on the run from men, who have probably been empowered by these porn industries.

I can have a go at the men too if you like, wanking animals that they are. Does it do any good? They are being fed this shite too.

Longdistance · 03/05/2021 16:23

I’m disappointed in her too. My dd9 loves her, great role model dressed in oversized hoodies, joggers, boots. Dressed for comfort. Not half naked.
Yes, she can wear what she bloody well likes, but changing her look so dramatically like that seems like a sell out move.

TatianaBis · 03/05/2021 16:29

Wtf?

murbblurb · 03/05/2021 16:29

Just seen the Vogue cover pic. She looks miserable, uncomfortable and ridiculous - as anyone would in rubber knickers, plastic gloves, an itchy lace bra and a giant second bra over the top.

Does she have no control over what she wears or how she looks? Surely she has enough money to tell them where to go?

Alsohuman · 03/05/2021 16:30

Her message isn't wear baggy clothes. It's that the pervy and mysogninstic media who prey on women's bodies needs to fuck off

Appearing on the news stands trussed up like a 1950s glamour model is a very odd way to convey that message. Unless you think Vogue isn’t part of the misogynist media.

InTheMiddle23 · 03/05/2021 16:30

I expected her to go more Sia, less Kardashian. Shame really.

Ah, there's only certain types of victims we should bother ourselves with. Anything else is Victim Bingo. Good to know.
